He had great talent but no champion material, he was not constant and not able to push a team in the right direction. See the difference when he and Berger switched with Schumi in 1996. My top ten drivers that deserved a title are Moss, Collins, Brooks, Ickx, Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Reutemann, Pironi, Alboreto, Montoya
@@ambrogioisgro9489 Benetton lost key personnel to Ferrari in 1996 so be a bit more specific, and no offense but then Berger deserves a title more than Alboreto since he vastly outscored him at Ferrari.
Jacques Laffite proved he still could bang wheels with the competitors aged 42. He did well with the Ligier-Renault and scored a 2nd place in the American GP at Detroit and a third in Brazil. It's a real pity an accident permanently ended his F1 career because who knows how much longer he'd race?
Very nice list. Number 21 - that was ridiculous! There are so many possibilities, such as Massa on Senna in Singapore 2012, and Heidfeld's double overtakes in 2008, a top 100 would've definitely been possible. For instance, I remember being completely dumbfounded on Michael Schumacher's overtake on Fisichella in Brazil 2005, going completely sideways up the inside of Ferra Dura, AND made the overtake stick! Another one that comes to mind is Brundle going round the outside of Berger going into Mirabeau in 1994
Great list, but I agree with those mentioning hamilton on raikkonen at monza 07. Also Montoya on Schumacher at nurburgring 03 and JPM on Raikkonen in Brazil 04 should have made the list. Didn't know those passes from Laffite and Capelli, absolutely awesome, but my no.1 would still be Mansell on Berger in Mexico 90...I mean, he was on old tires and made an unbelievable, high speed, outside move at Peraltada, how can you beat that?
I feel like there is one type of overtake missing: 2003 Imola Barrichello on Ralf Schumacher, 2003 Silverstone Barrichello on Räikkönen and 2016 Abu Dhabi Rosberg on Verstappen. Outbreaking someone is nice, but but attacking someone and forcing him into a defensive position until he can’t defend anymore is the real art in my opinion, not breaking late and hoping your opponent sees you and opens the door for you.
Glad to see some brilliant forgotten moves like Alesi on Hill and his double overtake in Adelaide. Order is a bit strange considering many newer ones have the unfair advantage of DRS use. I felt there was some underwhelming overtakes in there... Few more I would've put in too would be: Alesi on Senna (US 1990) Alesi on Prost & Mansell (Monza 1990) Twice for each restart. Patrese on Mansell (Mexico 1991) Mansell On Senna (Spain 1991) Coulthard On Schumacher (Brazil 2001) Montoya on Trulli (Imola 2001) Montoya on Schumacher (US 2001) Montoya on Schumacher (Nurburgring 2003) Barrichello on Raikkonen (Britain 2003) Heidfeld on Alonso (Monaco 2005) Alonso on Webber (Japan 2005) Massa on Kubica (Japan 2007) Vettel on Alonso (Monza 2011) Perez on Button (Bahrain 2013) Ricciardo on Vettel (Monza 2014) Vettel on Bottas (Spain 2017) Ricciardo on Everyone (Baku 2017) Overall a big fan of your vids and been a subscriber for years. Maybe next video you'll do best defensive driving or defensive moves. Truly an underrated art of racing!
Schumacher on Kimi Brazil 2006! No Hamilton passes really lol! Great video but when one of the best overtakers in history isn't included it's bias lots of world champions included
Amazing job, simply, amazing. You have such a knowledge of the sport, mate. I know we all have our opinions about the order and the list, but I think you made some brilliant points here. Did not know Ricciardo was such a master.
What the hell Antti! Ivan Capelli in 1st?!?!??! And not one single overtake that Schumacher did in Brazil in 2006? The overtake he made over Raikkonen was the best!
This is just..fantastic. Not just because of how well made it is, but because of the amount of moves I've just never seen. Strangely, the actual F1 RU-vid channel seems reluctant to show some of the great classic races and so we miss out on them. I think it's perhaps because one day they will do something where people have to pay to watch the classics. But this has just beautifully revealed so much of what I have missed about formula one.
1) The fight between Villeneuve and Arnoux with several overtakes should have been the best in this ranking. Not because I say so but because it was. 2) Do you know a certain Carlos Reutemann who left Lauda as a road post at Brands Hatch? That's one of the best overtakes in history and just a few laps from the end of the 1978 British Grand Prix. And that overtake was way better than a few I've seen in this video. 3) Villeneuve overtaking Jones with a lap to go on the main straight in Monaco in 1981 where is it? PS: Ivan Capelli at No. 1?? HA HA HA HA HA HA
@@franciscobaeta2213 Max managed to have the car still alongside Nasr in blanchimont around the outside, that is already unbelievable because of the amount of grip there is at that part of the sircuit. The overtake it self was indeed actually not in blanchimont, but that doesn't take anything away from how impressive that pass was. You gotta have large balls to do such an overtake, everyone that tried that either failed the overtake or ended up in the wall. Button never passed around the outside in blanchimont, maybe at the inside I don't know, but that is not that impressive tbh...
I think I'm missing only one - Heidfeld passing 2 cars in Luffield at Silverstone '08 - first around the outside, and second while cutting into inside line on the exit.
Great return triumphant, fastastic video, you know you have a big fan here in Brazil! Thanks for putting nelson piquet in overdrive hungaroring, looking forward to new videos, your publication Rally the great adventure is simply fantastic congratulations, and I invite you for a ride in Interlagos in F1 season.Best Reagards
Great Video Antti I hope you can do a video on old school F1 overtakes to see in the near future a video of overtakes on guy’s like Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Hunt, Lauda, Hill, Rindt, Mass and other if posible. And it’s great to have you back doing great masterful videos again.👍🏾💪🏾
Vidéo is absolutely fantastic, but i think it miss some fews great pass, like Jules Bianchi at Monaco 2014, Hamilton on Raikkonen at Monza 2007, Kubica and Massa at Fuji 2007, Mansell on Senna at Barcelona 1991, Vettel on Alonso at Monza 2011, or the triple pass of Ricciardo at Baku 2017, and the one from Melbourne with Ocon, Hulkenberg and Alonso. But this vidéo still great, because it shows somes forgotten masterpieces, and show that Jean Alesi was a master at overtaking people. A fact that shouldn't be forget. Thank you for that. You should continue these top series. Hope the next one will be the best finishes of Formula 1 !
>Piquet drifting his Williams to overtake Senna >3rd place Should be 1st place, it was the most bad-ass, balls of steel move of F1's history. And a close second for all motorsports history, only losing to that one from Zanardi on the Corkscrew in Laguna Seca.
Heidfeld was such a clean, inch perfect racer. Brilliant moves. I put a comment saying some moves I would have included. Monaco 2005 from him was one of them.
Welcome back Antti. Maybe it would have been better without a ranking. But anyway, we always appreciate your videos. Hope you're doing well in your online racing...
Overtaking in racing is ALWAYS a "dance of two"... If the overtaker makes a divebomb or some other erratic move, it's always the overtaken who accept yhis and gives room or space. If the person overtaked don't give room, is it great or spectacular? Great video btw. (check puresport imola garykari, btw) ;)
The big issue with Piquet overtaking Senna is that on a previous lap he had tried to overtake but Senna closed the door, Piquet revealed that he overtook as an act that he would not lower his head to Senna as other drivers did, so he went to the end of the straight and literally swallowed Senna in the corner just to demonstrate that Senna would not intimidate him.
Great video but still missed Verstappen on Rosberg Brazil 2016, Vettel on Alonso Silverstone 2014, Massa on Senna Singapore 2012, Alonso on Massa and Webber Brazil 2012 and Verstappen on Nasr Spa 2015
