Let’s not forget about Vitaly Petrov’s start at Albert Park 2010. Gained about 8 places in the wet. That being his first ever F1 start makes it even more impressive.
Number 26 is legendary by Mika Häkkinen. According to Mclaren at that time no one had ever been launching faster as per the telemetry data. When Mika arrived to the first corner he was already like 100 meters ahead of the rest. 👍🏻😊
Alonso is the best starter F1 has ever seen. Of course, all the others were capable of masterpieces like many in this video, but Alonso does it so consistently you don't even get surprised anymore that Alonso has made a great start. You get surprised when he has a poor start instead xD
Great video. I'd forgotten just how extraordinary those Renault starts from the mid-2000's were. For what it's worth, I would have added Alonso's start from the 2011 Spanish Grand Prix, Damon Hill's getaway in the 1997 Hungarian Grand Prix and Petrov from Australia 2010. (PS. Loved the retro graphics. Nice touch.)
Wow... Stefan Bellof. It's about time someone credits him for the awesome prospect that he was. People have decided to forget that he outshined Senna in Monaco 84, he was gaining time on both Prost and Senna when the race stopped. Senna has always been highly praised for that particular race but i never hear anyone talking about Bellof.
He seems to of been the most overlooked and forgotten what if in f1 history. Shame he died before his career could take off. Also in 1984 his team lost all of their points due to a major penalty
@@jrsmith5080 you do realise that Bellof had the fastest car that day, maybe only second to the mclarens? not to discredit him or anything but he was driving a non-turbo car (which is much faster in wet weather) and the Tyrell he was driving had illegal fuel and they were later disqualified from the season for it...
I watched the race that day, I just could not believe what I witnessed, the start was just sensational, my favourite has to be Jean alesi monza 96, and Schumacher a very close second
No Hamilton or Vettel in this video... And I don't even remember a good or brutal race start from them, or at least, not like this ones... Beautiful stuff! Thanks bro!
Aren't there rumors about them having some (possibly illegal) device that would notice a change in the sensors of the track which are/ were installed to recognize jump starts?
They detected the radio signal to the grid sensors when the signal dropped they launched. Was on for two races. But Fernando is on here for 3 different teams and Hammy isn’t so where are all the fan boys???
What a brilliant work!! Many times I said: Wow, no possible!! The Mclaren's start in Monza is my favourite one. I love the graphics, similiar to the end of the 90's and the beginning of 2000's.
Always thought Jarno Trulli's 2004 Barcelona start was one of the best, what a rocket that car was. This was an amazing video however! Amazing as always.
Alonso is such a great starter nowadays...you forgot Singapore 2017...8th to 3rd before having very bad luck and getting hit by the RedBull wreck...he would even have been 2nd with Vettel's problems...
tbf he had a good start because the cars in front of him slowed down to avoid the crash and even if he did manage to avoid the redbull he probably just wouldve been passed on the straights by faster cars anyway
The greatest start is lewis on Alonso. Lewis’s first race in formula 1’ Australia .. rookie ahead of 2 time world champion alonso at turn one.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mLG-POZihAw.html
Just put an Alonso´s start and you have an awesome one for sure! Just look at number 9, I mean he did 4 cars around the outside in 1 braking point, that is ridiculous, hope he can fight in the top again! I have to say I was hoping to see Alonso´s start on Spain 2011, from 4th to 1st, those fast left right moves were incredible, Great Video anyway!
@@sibeksibowski2126 hahaha, i think in that GP Gilles came from 6th place, which i think is most impressive due of how fast he was able to launch to archieve such acceleration (it can look like he came from far below due of his speed when he enters the frame but he didn't)
I like it, but only one start of Gilles is very little. I can remember Spain 1981, where he was second after turn 1, for example. But in a way, it's another awesome video. Thanks, Antti!
It is fantastic to finally get sth from You Antti! THX! And a great montion of KUBICA in the first shot. It was his 3rd start in F1 and a first PODIUM! Hope to see him again in Williams in 2018 :)
The Number 1 Best F-1 Start was by Jim Clark in the Lotus 25 at Spa in 1963, from the outside third row to take the lead at the first corner! This was in the wet, with all cars on the same Dunlop tires.
1:42 - best team overtake I can remember of really. And second only to this list's 3:14 - Senna beating all top 6 McLaren Ferrari and Williams to get first.
Nigel Mansell at the Hungaroring circuit in 1989. Riccardo Patrese at the same track a year before that 1988. Andrea De Cesaris at the Spa circuit back in 1983. Two starts and twice he jumped from third to first.
It's not suprising to see Alonso in many of these. Much can be said about the person outside of the track but on the track he is one of the all time best F1 drivers.
What a great edit (those banners gave me such a nostalgic feeling), great choices and also a good, vibrant song to go. This reminded me how good starter Alonso is even though I am 100% Kimi Raikkonen fan. Too bad he wasn't on the list, hehe.
No. 3, Gilles Villeneuve started 5th place and was leading the race before the first corner. I swear, everyone seems to turn a blind eye to Villeneuve when (in my opinion) he is the greatest driver of all time. I'm happy he placed high on the uploader's list; hopefully gain him some more recognition.
You left out Jim Clark at the 1963 Belgian GP in the rain, where he started on the third row and took the lead before the first corner! He easily won the race by 4 minutes and 56 seconds!

A lot of names that I've forgotten. When Eddie Irvine went from Ferrari to Jaguar, he had a lot of technical information on there launch control and helped improve the cars takeoff. Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane.
4:50 Stefan Bellof could’ve been Ayrton Sennas most formidable opponent, maybe even more so than Alain Prost, in the Monaco GP in 1984 when Senna was in P2 catching Prost in his Toleman Stefan was going a few seconds a lap faster than Senna. At least that’s what I heard. Jeez I would’ve loved to see Senna vs Bellof
All those Renault starts were down to launch control before other teams mastered it. I heard from a mate Renault were detecting a change in the electronic current in the grid jump start detector that occurred when the lights went green to automatically launch the cars.
Good video. Would have been better if the positions the drivers started from and places gained were mentioned. Mika Haikennen was very brave in between the 2 Ferraris. Personally number 7 is my favourite.
Riccardo Patrese's start at Hungaroring 1988 and Kyalami 1992 is missing. In that first race in 1992 both Williams didn't have the traction control installed yet. Also both Andrea DeCesaris' starts at Spa in 1983 from 3rd place to 1st. He performed same maneouver twice.
Those starts in the late 90s were so entertaining cause nowadays the getaways dont vary that dramatically and usually everyone gets away fairly well. Seeing a handful of cars lose/gain several positions right off the line is awesome
20 out of 30 of these could be Fernando Alonso. Best starter and opening lap racer in F1 history. Only Senna was maybe as good but he usually qualified at the front so didn't have a lot of chances to show it.
Renaults in the mid 2000s had a launch control system that intercepted Charlie Whiting's signal during the start sequence and pretty much automatically launched the cars from the line to a perfect start. It kind of looses it's magic when you know that...
