This is a video from my f35 where you can see how I build a mold from a 3d printed vertical stabilizer. If you like my channel, please hit the subscribe button.
Many people asked me what kind of material I used. So below a list with used material:
Glas fabric: 210 gram/M2 Twill 1/3
Epoxy: Epoxy Resin L + Hardener CL (60 min)
Mold release wax: Release wax
PVA: Film release agent PVA
Gelcoat: Mould resin P + Hardener EPH 161-P
See shop1.r-g.de/s... for all of the above
Putty spray: Motip spray putty
Filler: Albastine Superieure Muurvuller ( i don't know if you can get this outside the Netherlands)
Milling machine / router: Stepcraft D 840
3d Printer: Creality CR-10 v2

Man, for a minute there I was worried that making a mold to make a mold would be a complete pain in the ass. Then I was right! Nice work, can't wait to watch some more. 1:5 scale. Oh ya!

Nice job, a lot of work. Why dont you directly print a negative 3d piece. Sand, wax and pvc and you have your mold ready?

Great explanation!! I have a few questions my dear friend: 1) is the 3d printed vertical stabilizer printed with some infill or is it empty? 2)What is the type of wood you used? 3)Can I use another fiber like for example mat 450 to reinforce the 3d printed part?
@eflaan
@eflaan 3 года назад
Thank you! 1 it's printed with some infill. The biggest problem is that the 3d print will start to bend easily. 2 its a multiple layer of wood with a thin plastic top layer. I have no idea how it's called. 3 you can use any kind of reinforcement. It must be able to follow the contour. Good luck

@@eflaan Thanks a lot, I am developing a similar project but I had had some troubles with the reinforcement, tomorrow I'll try again. Thanks again, it is a great video my friend!!

I noticed you have used a respirator when dealing with this stuff. I can't stress enough for you to put some safety specs on as well. This suff, if you get it in your eyes you will bloody know about it. Good video though.

Awesome work! I have a question about the wax you applied before the PVA. Why did you need 5 layers of the wax if using the PVA as the primary boundary between the gel coat and the model?
@illla
@illla 2 года назад
Because of PVA can adhere to the master model too strong without wax. Even with the wax he had issues pulling the master model out, but without wax it would turn to nightmare.

Not yet. This was just a test to see if the 3d print was strong enough. Now I can start adding all the details and after that make the real mold.
