Man singlehandedly saved my left foot. 💜

Just fitted mine on a clubman F54. Word of advice, compress the spring fully in the vice till the stop. Use the cable tie trick as per video at maximum tightness on spring. Leave the collar ties a bit baggy to make for easier removal. I only removed the bottom and the sides. I used a soldering iron instead of hot screwdriver but same principle to snip the pressure. In order to fit the compressed spring you will need to press the clutch to get it in. Then release the pedal and you should have some pressure in the fit even before you snip the ties. Works a treat though, clutch much better.. Great video and thank you fixitfallows❤!!

WOW. I cannot describe with words what a HUGE difference this made to my F56. My clutch was heavy as a rock and now it's literally a FEATHER. It took me 10 minutes to compress the spring with your zip-tie method with the palm of my hand against a wall (measured bit by bit until I reached 8cm). Then, literally 60 seconds to put it in and release the ties with a small cutting pliers (it is easier if you push a little the pedal inwards to make a bit of room before you put it in) I'm very grateful you shared this. Hope my 2 cents help anyone else also. This was a big concern to me that was affecting my driving experience. THANK YOU!

This is brilliant - Thanks so much. It’s night and day better than before. Fitted the part linked from Stevenage BMW to a 3 door F56 Mini Cooper with a heavy clutch. Massive improvement. Why it’s not like that from the factory is a mystery!

Bought a spring and I should be fitting it soon. Excellent video, just got a mini and noticed the clutch was heavy right from the get go.. I was looking for a hack but this seems like its was a factory error to me missing this part off where it is supposed to be fitted.. anyhow.. THANK YOU in advance

Test drove a 2016 BMW F45 218i, and I noticed the clutch was heavy. When I collect it, going to see if I have that clutch pedal and order a spring!

Just bought a 2017 Countryman; love the car but hated it (a bit) today in slow traffic. Going to check if it is also missing that spring and also hoping it is! Because then I can fix it!🙏 I’ll update here if it is!

🤣 Yes, some points scored with Mrs Fixit there, but I still haven't fixed the primary problem...... that it is not an Audi !!!!

Hello from the US. I have the opposite problem with my 2017 Clubman S ALL4... My car has the compression spring and it squeaks like mad. Others folks that are experiencing the squeak say grease and silicon oil provides only temporary relief, the squeaking inevitably returns. Now that I know how to install a new spring (absolutely brilliant method by the way!) I could use some suggestions on how to remove the existing spring. Thanks! PS: I'm very curious to know if you eventually get the squeak.

Hi thanks for the video. It's great showing all the details. I have the same car 2017 F60 countryman. The problem is that sometimes releasing the clutch becomes softer, but pressing is alright. Do you have any idea what's happening?

Very nice video! How did you manage to remove the old spring from the pedal assembly? Did you use a special tool?
@fixitfallows
@fixitfallows 7 месяцев назад
That was my issue, I didn't have a spring in the first place, hence I had a heavy clutch...... so I didn't have to remove one.

Do you have to hold the clutch pushed to the floor to insert the spring? I have the spring compressed to 83 mm measured from tip to tip of the spring with 4 zip ties as shown. I had to push on the zip tie with a screwdriver and pull the loose end with pliers to get them tight enough. But it's not going into the two sockets.
@fixitfallows
@fixitfallows 2 месяца назад
@@NormanJohnson-MusicHost It has been a while since I did this and I'm struggling to remember the exact details. However, the gap between the two mounting points is bigger when the pedal is pushed down.... so give it a try, it seems logical. Good luck.

@@fixitfallows It worked! Thank you. Yes, I had to hold the clutch to the floor with one hand while lining up the spring with the other. I went through 3 sets of zip ties before I figured out a good size and set the heads out of the way. It was important to insert the spring's bottom (black) end in the clutch pedal first (it's a deeper socket) and then line up the white end in the upper bulkhead socket while pressing the pedal with your free hand. A word of caution while squeezing the spring in the vice: The nylon guides in the spring will come to a stop that you can feel as you turn the vice handle. Do not go any farther or it will permanently damage the spring. It's right at the point where the spring is squeezed to about 80 mm. And yes this spring makes a noticeable difference! I'm going out to test-drive it now.

Hi Just received compression spring for clutch pedal . Question ? When fitting Spring in compressed state ( about 80 mm in length ) do the two pivot spindles need to be tapped into location points or just pressed in by finger pressure ( hopefully it will stay in place - should do ) . My sister’s 2018 Mini Countryman has had this nightmare clutch for a very long time . Thanks for your time and effort doing the video . 🙂
@fixitfallows
@fixitfallows 4 месяца назад
Finger pressure, as you say, is all I used. When you release the spring from compression it will self seat itself if not fully inserted already.

That's exactly what we need on the wifes mini, she loves the car but hates the clutch. Can I ask where we can get a compression spring, size etc. Like yours, its the F60 Countryman.

Just trying to get the spring in location. Looks like you have to push down the clutch to make room. And I’m still struggling Do you insert the top or bottom end first.? The vid doesn’t show it. Thanks.

My daughter may love me again once I do this. BUT? I'm a bit confused as to what R or F model her Mini is. It's September 2016 (66) LN66 XWS, five-door Cooper, not S. Is this an R an F a 56 or what. And finally, whatever the model is wiill the spring fit? 🙂
@fixitfallows
@fixitfallows 7 месяцев назад
So if its the normal mini, not Countryman (small SUV), not Clubman (estate with barn rear doors, not convertible and not the Paceman (coupe roaster thing)..... then based on age, it will be an F56 if 3dr or F55 if 5dr....... as all post 2014's will be.... I think 🤞🏻. My understanding, is that it will have the same pedal box as mine. You get a very clear view of the pedal assembly in my video, so armed with a torch, have a look at yours down in the foot well, it should be the same. Look for the moulded plaster clutch arm. I think earlier generations may have had a pressed metal arm. Definitely worth doing, it transforms the car Good luck.
