I wish we had in-pavement lights similar to those on public streets and highways as opposed to reflective road studs. It would certainly make roadways safer.
Stimsonite has already introduced lighted road markers and is pushing local governments to adopt them and install them on roadways replacing the reflective ones which dull out and loses reflectivity over time.
There is another system similar to this called Follow The Greens it also combines airport lighting equipment and not only surveillance but also efficiency and responsiveness, it uses a computer to guide you the most efficient route on the taxiway.
REL should be used on busy intersections on city streets. When the light turns yellow REL flash to warn drivers to stop for red and when red REL remain on for 10 seconds. While the other cars have green light.
This is very nice VDO clip. May I use some part of this VDO clip for the my presentation of Suvarnabhumi airport? If you allow, I will add your logo for give the credit to you in part of my presentation.
Nope. The system is entirely automatic. Although it is probably safe to assume that the automation can be manually overriden in the event of a sensor fault or something.
I just wonder why airport could not improve visibility for foggy condition . is there any lighting system that could make the runway visibility better ?
well , I am not a pilot , just a frequent passenger.. I am sure that thousands of pilots request or express what they really want . good lighting may not be the first on the list. Wishing all pilots safely back to home every time.
When landing in a plane and taking off you can feel the lights bumping the plane would it not be better not to have the lights like humps that feel like speed bumps, in this day and age can we not make a smooth surface for planes to land on, can not be good for planes..
+john harry No sir this would exert extreme stress on the nose wheel making acceleration difficult and even dangerous. Best Is to have the lights flush mounted. You see most of these lights were installed after the runway was constructed so it is more practicable to surface install the lights. Hope this answer helps you understand.
Not when i am in a plane it bump bump and shaking the overhead lockers when passing over them. Planes are no built with great suspicion as it not supposed be on flat level ground and suspension would be extra weight for no reason. Have seen the lockers open with the raised lights.
