Dan Worrall gives some great tips and tricks for using Pro-Q in various mixing and mastering situations. FabFilter Pro-Q is available at www.fabfilter.com/shop. For more info about Pro-Q, check www.fabfilter.com/products/pro...
6 min 14 secs...only Dan could make something as technically esoteric as "Let's see what happens when I switch the Channel Mode to Mid/Side" sound so dramatic, backed by the tense guitar riff. What an enigmatic and expressive voice.
what you don't actually realise is how beautifully he synced the build-up of his tutorial with the actual build up of the song!! Very poetic, masterful, and effective, great tutorial!
Been producing 3 years now and never found a video on production techniques as useful as this. EQ'ing is probably the hardest and most important thing to master in mixing music. Fab(ulous) tutorial. Thank you!
As a new Pro-Q (3) user stumbling onto this very helpful 12 year old video --- something tells me I'm a little late to discovering this powerful tool! Also, hearing 12 years of difference in Mr. Worrall's voice is incredible. Over the years he transitioned from scholarly audio engineer into full-on talk radio voice! :)
+Salvia El Cid They are promoting their FabFilter products in the expectation that you buy them, in doing so, they are doing a brilliant job at showing how to mix. I am both learning and considering buying their stuff. WIN/WIN for all.
Every time I watch one of these videos Dan gives away some real jewels. This is the first eq that I've owned that I feel comfortable making many and sometimes dramatic alterations with. I took my izotope Alloy and used the same numbers and q settings and man I must say the results were not even close. The fabfilter stuff is so transparent, sharp, and punchy. I know I sound like a fan boy but if you don't believe me just download the demo and you'll see what I mean.
In the past two years I have recommended this video numerous times for its exceptional presentation of mirror EQ. I wanted to quickly thank Dan for this "jewel of RU-vid," since the universal application of this presentation is absolutely priceless to anyone new to using an EQ in general (which is rare when an underlying product is at the fore). Mirror EQ, acoustic microscope, frequency masking, mid-side application... all in 10 minutes!!
Honestly, I've been doing mixing/tracking/etc. for YEARS, and I have to say, your tutorials are top notch. I'm so impressed at how well you explain things (even though I know almost all of what you speak) it still sounds like something I should be listening to... That's a tough trait to have man. Good job!
I found this one of the most helpful EQ tutorial I have ever come across. I was blown away when I used these tips, my music has never sounded this mastered before. I can't thank you enough
This is the only tutorial that could truly say that "this is the only tutorial you'll need (as a beginner)". Thank you so much for this. I'm not a professional, just a hobby musician but just applying a few principles that you show here makes a real difference!
I've been doing home recording with digital software for 12 years, and you have just opened more doors for me with these videos, we never stop learning audio. Thank you so much
I’ve purchased the entire Fab Filter bundle... I’ve watched ALL of the tutorials multiple times whilst taking notes (I call it Dan Worrall university)...plus a boatload of videos from other cats. He’s such a great teacher / presenter !!! Fab Filter has definitely changed my life as a “student of sound”. 🤘🤩✌️
Dan never stops learning…in listening in 2024; today his voiceover chain is way better. And his tips and video improve constantly. He is the benchmark!
I would LOVE to see you do another version of this using Q2 and the individual band solo buttons to actually hear SPECIFICALLY how solo assists in identifying the frequencies you're choosing. Still, this is the best mixing EQ I've seen and I've seen quite a few. Love the Mid-Side tips. Great stuff. Thank you Dan.
Many many MANY likes of love and wonderment to you! I've learnt more about sensible/practical mixing with EQ in this video than I have in 2 years of my music production degree!!! Don't go to Uclan, buy FabFilter! (cheaper, more informative AND you get something to work with at the end of it)
The Mid/side-thing is super useful. Today i helped a friend to make a mash up from an old rock song and a rap song. The rock song had the guitar panned completely to the left, so i dipped the mid range's side stuff and enhanced its mid-stuff to make the guitar come to the middle while not effecting the cymbals' width
Absolutely (re above) - not only do I echo the comments of funkulankula but these are probably the best presented tutorials I have come accross online for anything! I learn a lot of stuff from tutorials online and most are OK but these certainly stand a head or two above the rest. Well thought out and a nice clear and even tone of voice that I didn't have to keep rewinding ! DW you're an unsung hero.
Concise in it's explanation, Dan has taught me a valuable lesson in what is called subtractive EQ. Brilliant, to the point, and easy to understand tutorial.
incredible usefull video. i'm a hobbyist edm and experimental producer but i allways had some trouble with EQing this really cleared up some things. goodjob and thanks for sharing this knowledge
I have to second the opinion of so many others. Brilliant EQ-tutorial, I probably learnt more about the ins and outs of soundshaping with EQ in these 10 minutes than I ever did, reading articles in various mags and watching other tutorials. Great way to advertise a product as well. I will definitely purchase Pro-Q as soon as my budget is not so strained. I'll probably go for the total bundle, even. Kudos.
I'm using iOS-version on my iPad with Auria app. This is the best and most intuitive EQ plugin I have ever used. And This tutorial is also very informative.
awesome! I did not know that the EQ would make THAT big of a difference! I knew it would do some, but this is just amazing! now I have to stop peaking the bass and treble, on my guitars for sure!:P
Really cool and useful tutorial with clear articulation. Gotta approve. And Eve's Song is also nice piece as an example. It gives this video a nice, ethereal and unique feeling. Great work and thank you for this. Now I will watch this about hundred times so I maybe finally learn to do something right with eq. And yeah.. I have to say that Pro-Q seems quite some tool to work with. Maybe I need to consider buying one myself. Even if it is not quite cheap.
Great tutorial, and an excellent presentation of your product. Thanks! I would happily pay for an overall mixing tutorial in the same format, BTW. Useful info!
TNice tutorials is by far, the best tutorial I have found so far. I feel like I’ll be spending a lot of ti on your channel! Thanks man! Keep up the good
