Robert, you continue to make amazing progress. Very much enjoying the railway build and how handy you are!

Thank you very much! To be honest I´d like to move a little quicker but time, money and weather are my main opponents right now. But I will get there eventually that´s for sure!

Great job. Really enjoy watching your progress. Everything is coming together. The one tool you had we call it a bevel square. Looking forward to your next video.

Thank you, now I know how it is called! Slowly but surely I am working towards a finished layout :) I am glad that you are enjoying the process!

I'm hoping that you might consider reviewing your first platform curve where you cut the vertical plane down. It seemed to me that it was a compromise that could perhaps be revised for a better visual appearance. Thanks for sharing. Cheers 🇦🇺

The first platform will stay as is for now, changing it to a real curve radius instead of two bends would mean a lot of extra work. It doesn´t look to bad in my opinion altough it could be better. Much more interesting will be the second, long platform which will be half staight and half in a curve on both sides. On that I will definitely try to make a nice even curve with the platform edge like I have done in this video!

Hi Robert, fantastic progress. I was wondering why you needed to weld the slots on the curve - weather protection?
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 4 месяца назад
Hey! Tank´s for the question ... As long as the slots are not welded the steel is free to bend to some degree. I used very tight tolerances between the platform edge and the track so even a slight change in curve radius would be a big problem. To be save I decided to weld every single slot shut so it is one continous steel structure.

With the weather this year, always good to have a back-up plan. How do you deal with the leaves on the tracks? You pick them one by one? You use a garden blower / vacuum machine or you have some special track cleaner like «Die Gartenbahner » produce? Or the track inspectors pick them up :-)
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 4 месяца назад
All of the above! For most of the leaves I am using a garden blower. I have a video on my channel which is showing exactely that if you are interested. It is called "Sthil BGA 60 leaf blower test for Garden Railroad maintenance". After the leave blower I am picking up the residues by hand. Last but not least I am cleaning the tracks either by hand or with the cleaning system build by "Die Gartenbahner". There will be a video soon about this cleaning wagon!

How long have you been making garden railroads and how much does it cost to build one?

Generally with this sort of thing, if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it. I know I can't. Everything he has right now is probably tens of thousands of dollars, not including labor effort.

My garden railroad hobby started around 2011. I made a video about that if you are interested... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Nv5H5GT_G8.html The cost varies a lot, depending on what you want to accomplish. The good thing is you can start very small and get bigger over time. On this channel you are watching me building my third layout. At this point I know what I want and I am shooting directely for the final layout build instead of starting slow and making changes to it over years. That means you have a lot of inital cost. But for any beginner I would highly recommend to start nice and simple which brings the cost down to a few thousand euro or dollar.
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 4 месяца назад
That is right, thanks for pointing this out!
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 4 месяца назад
This might be true, but like I described above I am going over the top with this layout right from the beginning since I know exactely what I want. That means hight inital cost, slow progress due to the high amount of labor involved and lots of complex planning. If you are starting with this hobby this is absolutely the wrong approach. To get started I would estimate about 2 to 3k, after that you can grow your layout and rolling stock at your own pace.
