Fabricating and Machining Semi Trailer Ramps. 

Teach those kids how to to work! Love to see it. Spent the day in the shop with my 19 year old who is off to Mechanical Engineering school as a direct result of learning to weld at 10 years old. Facilitate their ideas (think wheelie bars on garden tractor) and teach them how to make them into actual completed projects. Nothing better! They are already learning all this just living there watching you.

That ramp looks short and steep. We had a problem like that once. The drawing looked good, but the ramps had to be redone. Like you, we did it to the customers drawing and specs..... NOT our fault.

New to your channel loving it!!! A suggestion to help with productivity and consistency on drilling that many parts on the mill would be to set a back stop to slide the part to then clamp with the vice. Using this method you would set up one part and lock the table. All the remaining parts wouldn't even need layout.

Always great to learn something everyday and I definitely did watching this video. As a certified mobile field welder myself watching this video was very entertaining. Great shop set up and love how your boys are itchin to help after school. The jib crane is awesome too. I got a pointer on the slugger Hougan drill...they make this wax/gel you can use and its cleaner and less mess...no stains in your concrete. Great for if you need to drill holes in delicate areas. I have had good luck cutting holes with the plasma cutter using a stencil.

When I don’t have the correct diameter pin, I just make a bushing and press into the id of cutter, then I can use the pins I have

Man your doing great teaching that boy a skill my son was always right by my side working and learning he just turned 20 in April hes making 30.00 per hr he would be s supervisor but they're insurance wont cover him theyll send s supervisor with him but they tell him to do whatever my son says

I too am a new subscriber as of today. Binge watching all of your videos as I am recovering from knee replacement surgery. Those rams are very stout. I believe in overdoing it a little bit and making sure they don’t fall apart and you’ve got that covered. Like the one gentleman said I would start wearing a respirator or get a fume extractor because it’s really affected me now. I’m 57. I and my wife and sometimes my son are the family business here. For me it’s all about family that’s why we do what we do.👍👍

Y'all are doing great for a young company and family. Mark my words them kids will never forget dad's shop I know from experience, that oldest boy has been in there a lot on the vids, I gauretee he turns out to be a hell of a worker and they'll all make some fine youngins! This seems to be the start of a great up and coming fab company and red blooded American family. I give y'all a sub and thumbs up from a heavy equipment/ mining machinery welder and fabricator/ line borer !

For making lots of the same cuts like thise tubes i have taken a piece of 1/4x2" flat bar and make a U shaped straight edge so you can cut both sides of the tube at the same time, also helps insure both sides are cut identical.

1/4” flat bar works great with hypertherm 45XP-It fits in torch groove.

@Freedom Fabrication -- Try something for me. When you have the flange wizard straight edge, if you will tilt the edge so it barely touches the line, then tilt it back so the magnet sticks to the metal, you should be the correct distance from the line for your torch and you won't have to measure before you cut. Give it a try.

Great vid! But you didn’t do anything for corrosion prevention? Paint it, blue it,something? Or did the customer do that? Would be interesting to know what done.

Mill is for sure a better choice for that job. I try to keep drilling under 1in for the mag drill. Cutting force is just to high, even for my big milwaukee mag drill

I'm enjoying your vids and this one really put a cap on it, but...one question - there's no way in hell any mortal man is going to lift and lower those beasts by hand, so what will be done for hydraulic cylinder hook-ups ??

The M18 metal cutting saw would've worked great on that.

You may have used them before but silver pencils work a lot better than soap stone in my opinion. If you haven't tried them out yet I recommend you give it a shot.

Why not use the mill to get these holes in the same spot?

If I may advise you, your next investment should be a welding helmet with a fresh air system. So much welding with your face above it is at the expense of your health. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I use anchorlube, its a water base lube-less toxic to breathe.

Nice work for what it was, however. . . I would have suggested to the customer diamond plate instead of flat plate and expanded metal. Just a thought.

Do you use the dro on your lathe ?

Ramps look great. I think I would have machined a bushing for that pin rather than make a new one.

Why you did not use checker plate?
