Fabricating Custom Glove Boxes & Doors For The Sweetheart Roadster

After mocking up the dash layout and installing the steering box, Matt decided it was time to tackle the custom glove boxes he envisioned. Starting off with a wooden buck, Matt pounds out two glove box doors. Once those are completed Matt moves onto to creating the boxes themselves, and a flange to weld onto the back side of the dash. Once everything is welded up Matt cuts into his dash and installs the boxes. The overall look of two glove boxes is very classy and perfect for the Sweetheart Roadster. he's right, just stare at it and think how to make it move the way you want, avoid folds in corners and work the metal slowly it will do what you want eventually. think like you're making armor!

Here is me thinking 'where were you when I was growing up' I really would have loved to spend time watching and helping... and then I realised... Matt, you were not even born back then. These trade crafts have been handed down for generations and a lifetime of shaping metal produces master craftsmen. There is no APP for that, no On-Line course... just hours at the bench.

I like the 2 glove box door design for the dash. Here's an idea, how about the next time you make another door, cut notches around the corners, nothing fancy, just straight in with the band saw, so when it's time to bend them over, they will lay over each other and make it so much easier to form the corners. Love the Sunday morning shows, it's a great start to the day. Have a great rest of your day Matt. Tell everyone Hey. Y'all seem to have a good working together fitment, where you can see what's going on and are able to make suggestions for one another and make it work out as you're working on whatever at the time. You like feed off of each other and kinda know what each other may be thinking about to find a fix to the situation. I know, I'm rambling on, but you always say if we have a suggestion, to let you know. Okay, okay, Later Matt. 👋😃👍
@IronTrapGarage

Thanks for watching Gordon. I prefer to hammer shrink the corner when possible. Even if I do what said you I have to the weld the cuts up and sand them smooth. Takes the same amount of time regardless. Just how I prefer to do it when possible

Getting ready to start working with my 13 year old grandson on some antique motorcycles. I think I'm as excited as he is, it is great to see you working with a young one as well. As far as the glove boxes go I like them I wouldn't put a door on the driver side one because of steering wheel clearance, but either way it will still look good, and be a useful addition to the car.
