I fitted a toyota Landcruiser bumper on my MK1 sprinter. Quite a bit of tinkering but the end result looks well. I used the box section of the van to slide the attached bumper rails into and then bolted through.

Awesome job...looks great. For the best protection, powder coat the bumper and it will out last the van. Yes, lights on the bumper are a great spot. Awesome....

You did an awesome job! .. It is very hard to find a aftermarket bumper/grille guard for Sprinters 02-06... so i am looking at having one made for both my 2500 and 3500... I love the meanness factor.. so thats what Im going for.. something road warriorish. lol..

I don't like many aftermarket front bumpers, but this is the exact style I would choose for both my Sprinter and my 4Runner. I enjoyed watching him set it all up in CAD and of course the welding action. 👍

WOW! dude, that looks amazing! I love your channel and really dig how your learning to do these things along with sharing them with the world, from the builds, to the story telling aspects, gear used and most importantly the mental perspective needed. Its vids like these that keep motivating me! My Girlfriend and I have our 1997 Ford 4x4 E350 Diesel Ambo we are converting to a camper (@the_travelin_ambo) and wanted to learn to weld for this exact reason! Its nice to have that business be there to help guide you. Welding is a skill and an art that I would love to learn. How long did the build take? from ordering the metal, to cutting it to welding it? Keep up the great work and keep making stuff!!!

Hi, looks great 👍. Did you have any issues with the authorities, I need to look into it for here in the UK but I know that thinking about an impact with a pedestrian is usually required. Not sure if the situation is different for one off vehicles alterations.

What precautions do you take for the vehicle's electronics prior to welding?

disconnect the ground from any batteries inside and you're good to go. It's good practice to keep the welder ground close to where you are welding to prevent circuits traveling through things you won't want them too.

@@Levi_Allen The van green wasn't quite the same as seen in your intros but was close to the van color in the first front-end shot in the bumper video. Suppose you already know but... - Antique Auto museum in Fai is amazing. Includes period clothing that interests wives. Visualize some neat B-roll from there. - Scope out getting into Teklanika campground in Denali Park and the bus "TEK Pass" if you plan to spend time in the Park and don't plan to tent camp. - Driving to Deadhorse/Prudoe Bay is a good drive. Give you a better understanding of ANWR questions and issues. Fall colors should be starting. - Denali Highway is well worth the drive. Alaska Range to the north is amazing...to us Alaskans. Maybe not quite so much to Canadien Rockians! ;-) - Chena Hot Springs is interesting and enjoyable (probably more so when ambient temps are not so hot). Owner is heavily into alternate energy, particularly for remote villages, etc. - McCarthy/Kennecott is a good trip. Think you would be amazed thinking of it all being built in early 1900s. Wish I had adventure friends and acquaintances that I could introduce to you. However I imagine you guys pretty much already have a full itinerary of exciting adventures. Can introduce you guys to REALLY GOOD pizza and beer/root beer (we and most locals think) in Anchorage should your itinerary allow. Vicki and I are retired so our schedule is pretty open. Very much looking forward to Alcan/Alaska posts Did you see the Aurora? Hope so. Cheers! Warren

Definitely go with the lights but hopefully you made sure for easy access for tightening them up periodically as they will bounce loose as you're driving north! Roll on next episode!

Absolutely fantastic bumper!!! Shame you didn't provide a link to the shop, www.coastaloffroad.com They're pretty popular with the Land Cruiser folk as well. My only concern really is that everything I've read says NOT to winch from the front of a T1N. You obviously think different. Now I'm curious to see if you can. Would love a follow up video. What have you read about custom winch solutions? Yes, the stock van you definitely don’t want to winch from the front because there’s nothing to winch from. Hence the whole project of building a bumper and proper mounting

@@Levi_Allen So Aluminess makes a beautiful bumper ($3000) and this is from their site "Note that because of the older Sprinter frame, this bumper is not winch-compatible, and cannot be fitted with tow shackles or a front receiver hitch." Saw similar statements on forums. Coastal's bumper is so well priced and such an awesome design that I'm actually considering one for my 2005!

justchillinout2002 - I think the aluminess one looks like an oversized hunk of aluminum. They designed it once, and never improved or changed it. I think they have their hands full with newer vans. They missed a real chance to build something that could be mounted properly. What they currently sell is a glorified front hood ornament. It mounts to the stock m8 mounting threads in the unibody. They used to sell it with toe hooks but heaps of people were bending the bumper mounts (which are weak) or pulling them right off. You’ll notice if you watch through the video I made again, several times we talk about a sub frame mounting to the unibody. As well as through bolting new grade 8 hardware to hold on the front and sides. It isn’t as simple as just mounting to the stock m8 bolts, but it actually gives us a properly mounted bumper when all is said and done. One that you can certainly winch off.

Just a word of warning to everyone wanting a bumper for their t1n from this company. Their customer service is horrendous and I've been waiting for my complete bumper kit for over a month now. He had the balls to quote me shipped to my home in 5 days or less. Nearly impossible to get a response from them.

I might actually be off here on that number as I wasn't thinking about the sub frame we added. Either way, in my opinion added weight in the front is negligible@@hanfordcreek5309
