After trying a number of products to protect my Wife's convertible roof without success I thought I would give Fabsil a try as it has been recommended by a couple of my subscribers. I did order Fabsil Gold but just Fabsil turned up and in the present climate I decided to give this product a try.

Fabsil is a good product and has been around a long time. I would definitely apply 2 coats the second one will be much easier as it will be less absorbent now. I would try and stick with the brush and really work it in. I think the sprayer would be less effective. I recieved Atom Mac today so look forward to trying it at the weekend.👍

I have just bought a a3 black convertible and looking to keep it in the best order that I can and I was just wondering if you could tell me in your opinion whats the best wax and protector u have used an also protector and cleaning products for the roof? @ObsessiveCarDetailer 4 года назад
Hi Lisa, welcome to my channel. Ok so where do I start. There are many good products to choose from but Im guessing that you also want to have easy access to buying them without paying for shipping. Are you based in the UK? if so you can't go wrong with Autoglym and easy availability from Halfords Stores. Car Chem products are good and free shipping. However check out my videos on "ceramic wax by Reflect car care" & "Reflect car care maintenance wash". You can buy the ceramic bundle from Reflect for under £30 and you get a great ceramic wax, a SI02 detail spray and good quality buffing towel. Check those two videos out and get back to me on any questions. Just remember there is no such thing and a dumb question we all have to start somewhere. I really like Garage Therapy One Wheel shampoo & after washing the wheels you can apply Reflect detail spray to protect them. I have struggled to find a good soft top cleaner and protector. The best protector to date is Fabsil & its cheap. A lot of detailers use All Purpose Cleaner (APC) but I tend to use dedicated soft top cleaners and not found one that stands out from the crowd so suggest you go for one that meets your budget. I hope that is of some help, if you want any more ideas then please get back to me.👍

Great video thank you. I was thinking of painting my Golf Convertible soft-top with Fabricoat fabric paint to restore the colour and following up with Fabsil Gold to protect and seal. I understand that, because Fabsil is silicon based, once it is on I cannot ever paint it again with Fabricoat and was wondering if you have any experience of painting soft-tops or advice on how to proceed.

Beads look great Martin, but then as you say some parts are flooding the fabric a bit, maybe a 2nd coat might help?, has the Fabsil affected how the fabric feels? I was about to send a link to the Leather Repair Company as they have a soft top sealant which I never knew about , it’s not cheap though £32.50 for a 500ml bottle, don’t know how much Fabsil is but it’s an expensive experiment 😜

Hi thanks for the video. I have a leak in my a5 cab roof, think it’s blocked drain tubes. Did you have any leaks on the car before using fabsil? I am thinking most water will bead off, leaving less to make its way down the drain tubes and less chance of them blocking.
@ObsessiveCarDetailer
@ObsessiveCarDetailer 3 года назад
Hi Clifford, not had any leak issues but its clear when it rains that the protection is there as you can see the beading. Although when it rains consistently the beading goes but back again next time. Not sure the protection will resolve and problems as the water will run off the roof quicker so the need to ensure roof drainage is clear should be your priority

I just bought a new s3 convertible and was looking for a good system to waterproof the Roof. This looks great. I just have a couple of questions if you would be so kind. 1. Why would you say the best cleaner is for the roof ? 2 would you recommend the Fisil Gold over the regular one? 3 how often does the roof need doing? I am in Scotland so it rains a lot 😃😃. Thanks again for the videos and the lint brush is a stroke of genius 😃😃
@ObsessiveCarDetailer
@ObsessiveCarDetailer 2 года назад
Hello Jason, If the car is new then just a good quality shampoo is fine for the roof. My preference is Garage Therapy One Car shampoo but whatever shampoo you prefer. Fabsil Gold is by far more effective on a cloth roof than the ordinary Fabsil. I wash the roof every time I wash the car but as far as applying Fabsil it depends on the conditions but I get 6 to 8 months of good protection from an application and could stretch it to a year. I have just released (last week) another video on how I clean the roof if that's of any interest. Happy motoring with the S3👍

Hi Martin I was just wondering if them spray bottles on your door the blue, yellow, red and green ones are any good as I’m getting fed up of using alloy wheel cleaner and the sprayer packing in, or have you reviewed these in the past. Cheers Andy.
@ObsessiveCarDetailer
@ObsessiveCarDetailer 4 года назад
Hi Andy, no I haven't reviewed them as yet. They are Kwazar Mercury 0.5L Double action trigger sprayers. I bought them from Clean & Shiny for £7.59 each. I really like them, they are designed to operate even upside down but they are a double action spray head & not everyone likes that feature. What that means is the product will spray out as you pull the trigger and again as you release the trigger. For me that works really well especially if you are using them to cover larger areas as it means less pulls on the trigger. You can also get them in 1L size for £8.79 but for me that is too big but might work for you. I have ONR, APC, Citrus wash & Road Rage in my four. Just for interest, the storage units on my door are from Gleem Detailing & really allow me to use what little space I have to the best possible use. Hope that is of help.

@ObsessiveCarDetailer

Hi Ryan, no but if you splash it around and don't clean it up it leaves a residue that takes a bit of rubbing and that's not great for the paintwork. I have tried Fabsil (not Fabsil Gold|) on a 16 year old convertible (brushed on to saturation point). My experience over 1 year of repeated applications is that it has about 2 maybe 3 weeks lifespan before it begins to fail. Fabsil is not the way forward on a very old fabric soft top. Next product I'm going to try is Renovo.

@@ObsessiveCarDetailer I've been using Renovo on my mohair hood up to now, and one difference I noticed straight awayin your demo is that when you brushed the Fabsil on it soaked in where it touched, whereas when I brush Renovo, it runs off like water and I have to chase it around. Also Renovo seems not to shed or bead for me as well as some people reckon, even with two coats - not even as good a result as you got with one coat of Fabsil.

Fabsil is not recommended for fabric tops as the silicone can harden the rubber membrane under the upper fabric. In addition if you try to recolour the hood at a later stage the Fabsil will stop the colourant from penetrating the fabric leaving a white frosty look. Better to use a water based sealer.
