Faction Focus - Bretonnia - Rules, Roster & More - Warhammer The Old World - Warhammer Fantasy 

Some KNIGHTLY fun today :) wanted to push the faction focus stuff out a tad! :) having so much fun!

It is funny, I made the realization yesterday how few units Bretonnia has to their army options compared to other armies. They only have 15, compared to the Empire with 20. I think it would have been smarter to call the Knights of the Realm on Foot, Knights on Foot so that with their updated look and extra bits you could decorate them to be Questing Knights or Grail Knights on Foot instead of just Knights of the Realm on Foot. They could just then give the stat blocks with the correct Vows and the +X cost to upgrade them. I have a few ideas for new units... Avatar of the Lake: Giant Water Elemental, Behemoth unit with water grasses and water lilies floating about its form and glowing with the divine purpose of the Lady. It would have the Blessing of the Lady (Always On), Hatred, Immune to Psychology, Large Target, Magical Attacks, Regeneration, Stomp Attacks & Terror Special Rules. It would have a Special Rule that requires you to have a Handmaiden of the Lady in your army like how the Grail Reliquae needs a Grail Knight. We lack a multi-wound unit and do not have a behemoth unit. Bretonnia for a fantastical realm feels very mundane with just Knights and Peasants. Lost Sons: The sons taken to the Lady's mystical realm by the Fay Enchantress ride into battle atop Kelpies equipped with silvery armor and weapons. They would be a Calvary Unit with the Ambusher, Blessing of the Lady (Always On), Fear, Magical Attacks, Move through Cover & Strike First Special Rules. The Lady would bless her chivalrous knights with aid to change the tide of the war. Ambusher and Move through Cover would represent them springing forth from the fay realm. Battle Pilgrims & Sacrosanct of the Lady: Tabernacle carried by Battle Pilgrims supporting a beautiful statue of the Lady. It glows with candles and incense. It would be similar to a Grail Reliquae but give Aura of the Lady and Frenzy to the unit. This would be the alternate model to the Grail Reliquae and would be the offensive Unstoppable Force of Battle Pilgrims version vs. the normal Immovable Object of Battle Pilgrims.

Do one on the High Elves too please!

Not a huge roster, but I love brettonia and it’s themes, so more then happy. We got our gaggle of now 6 knight units, 5 peasant units (not counting yeoman guard at the moment) the trebuchet, and our crew of characters. Super glad to see them, can’t wait for the 20th and be able to purchase the parts of the range that are not yet available for pre order.

Cool to see foot nights and the ability to have scout skirmish bowmen now, Havnt checked but i REALLY hope Grail knights are 4T now, that 3T really made them squishy for their points in 8th. Also thought it would have been cool to give Questing knights the ambush rule with limited 3-5 model limit. Would have made an awesome unit

Writinmg a Bretonnia list in a nutshell: Core: knights and exactly one tiny unit of peasants Elite: more knights. this time flying. Special: nasty knights a a stone thrower and all this is led by even more knights

Did you notice how in the lore section, the First Crusade bends over backwards to avoid mentioning who the enemy was (Araby, led by Jaffar)? Even the main rulebook is a bit vague about linking Araby to that event, depending on how you read it it's either implied that it was Araby or it was vague "enemies" again.

1W grail knights feels criminal, like, grail knight are supposed to be super human

Brets already have peg knights and grail knights. They don't need a gryph knight and IMHO it doesn't fit the theme of the army. They're too similar to the demigryphs for Empire also. Brets nobles are kinda better humans whereas Empire demigryphs the human is OK but really just along for the ride which is consistent with their theme. Better to keep them more distinct.

I would’ve like to see grail knight variants in rare- mounted, royal Pegasus and foot

I am glad to see the foot knights, id have liked some other new units but maybe in an arcane journal

Pegasus Knights are multiwound at 2 each.

I was really disappointed that we didnt get more new sculpts, but I think they just wanted to see if the release was a success before putting in resources towards new sculpts

I may try a mad lad idea of entirely foot slogging Bretonnian list just for the giggles. A few nice big groups of bows, a pair of trebuchet, and a few big blocks of Foot Knights with Great Weapons (and shields if you can take both for that 4+ v. Shooting) with foot characters. Maybe some Squires for a bit of skirmishing?

Im stoked to have knights on foot. I cant find when they launch anywhere though.

I will note that getting the Blessing of the Lady without praying is most relevant if you aren't *able* to pray, for example in Bretonnian mirror matches.

So Duke & Paladins - kotr foot & kotr mounted with 1 knight errant - Questing Knights, pegasus knights - Grail Knight would this be an army?? Ive thought about playing fantasy ive only played Kill Team and i love knights

On one hand I got some cool files for Brettonia, on the other hand I still have 15 knights and a hundred Men at Arms to paint for the 100 Kingdoms in Conquest... Maybe new army

As I am old and tend to grumble... I would think that a channel called the "Great Book of Grudges", would have done a focus on the Dwarf Mountain Holds by now. Waiting somewhat patiently...😎🍺

There's not much meat on that roster (and that's taking even the armies of infamy into account). This was the ideal moment to experiment and expand the idea of what Brettonia could even be. Right now this looks like they simply polished up a sixth Ed faction... Such wasted potential
