In this video we remove the factory hook on our Smittybuilt X20 Gen 2 Winch and replace it with a splice on shackle mount from Factor 55 called "The Splicer". In doing so we are able to increase safety by moving to a closed winch system. Join us as we show you how to install this type of winch line mount.

I switched over to soft shackles in my recovery kit. I like them a lot more. Great video!

As a maritime historian, I give you "High Water Marks" on job well done, and "Splice the mainbrace" which means the crew (in your case the captain) receives an extra ration of rum

No need to do that taper. The Factor55 splicer will pull the rope through w/o the taper. I hit the cut end with a lighter - probably not necessary. Very nice explanation video!

Thanks, The factor 55 site has no picture or explanation as to how this works. I mean I get the splicing part, but they don't even have a pic of the thimble from the back on their site to be able to confirm how this functions.

Pretty cool, do you have any best ways to winch yourself or someone else out of certain situations?

I have recently removed broken lsd motor which engage “rear locker”. I notice that two cables go to one socket and eight to other one. Anyone one know to which cables I need connect switch to engage the motor itself so I can apply rear locker on my demand not when computer decide? I know it will potentially fire fault codes as sensors on wheels decide when the slip momentum is happen and engage the motor but I would like to be more in control while drive off road. Does any one have and can share electric schematic of the rear connection I am trolling about lol? It is two connectors one had two cables which is 12v power ( red and black) and other has 8 connections which I presume came from wheel sensors?

How capable off-road would a 3.6L trail rated 2016 GC limited with air suspension be?
@ProdigalOverland
@ProdigalOverland 3 года назад
Capable. It would be more about having the right protection as far as skid plates and rock rails

@@ProdigalOverland I believe it came stock with skid plates. I've also done alot of research and it's very hard to find a limited version with the trail rated badge. so I don't have any comparison.

Boy, I could hear the nerves here, didn’t seem very comfortable. You don’t splice lines very often do you? Good job. I’ve taught many people how to splice, I’ve tried to teach many more. Most peoples’ eyes just glaze over dealing with ropes, knots, and especially splicing. I really love splicing myself! Keep up the good work.
