This channel needs more recognition. These vids are so informative but they aren't boring. Thanks for keeping our interest in medicine at a high during this pandemic. ♥
can’t believe this is the first time I’ve found your channel! the voiceover is hilarious and your teaching style is so complementary to my learning style. thank you!!
hi doc I just saw the video, I have Factor V Leiden - and was concerned about the corona vaccine, the subject is very complex but fantastic and easy to unterstand by you , thank you a Nurse from Germany
oh medicosis, always on point! I always carry my bottle of vit D everywhere because I am a classical example of the Nigerian girl who migrated to Northern Alberta!
What can you say about the novel Factor XI inhibitors, like abelacimab? Would it be more efficient than factor Xa inhibitors considering it has a considerable lower bleeding risk and apprent higher efficiency compared to enoxaparin? They say it's the holy grail of anticoagulation since it virtually eliminates the risk of excessive bleeding while at the same slowing the intrinsic coagulation pathway.
So I have been told I have Leiden Factor V -doubled? Found out after having my third child. I am 55 now and using cayenne and hot spices to thin my blood. I've been to hematologist here in Vegas and frankly, they didn't seem too interested in helping me, not sure why. I like to get messages especially on my legs, they always feel tight. I am wondering if it's a good idea to have massages if it loosens up the vein and can cause clots? I feel like I have very minimal circulation in my legs. I am not a student or doctor and your video is very helpful but I am still a little confused as to what to do next if there's a way to thin the blood without getting stuck on drugs for the rest of my life ( which seems to lessen the life span of peoples lives considerably I've noticed) people I know not on prescription drugs live longer than the ones on prescription drugs. An excellent video I will watch again as I am really trying to understand this, and interestingly enough I was raised to think I was 50% French and 50% German, found out I am 50% Irish/Scottish and not too much french and german as I thought (but this is from ancestry.com so who knows how accurate that is?)
Hey Debbie, How are you? I am so s you’re going through this. Using cayenne and hot spices to thin your blood is not scientifically proven. Moreover, it’s almost impossible to calculate the dose. In addition, you need some lab tests to tell you how bad the problem is. When you said: “People who are not on prescription drugs live longer”...How do you know? What hard evidence do you have? And what do you mean by “people”, or what type of “drugs”???! Also, I’ve never heard of Leiden Factor V- “doubled”...If I were you, I would see another hematologist....Look, it took me a long time to find the right mechanic. Finding the right hematologist is not going to be easy. Keep looking and don’t give up. I know a lot about medicine, but I will never treat myself if I had Factor V Leiden...I need a specialist who does that for a living! Take care! I wish you the best!
A "double dose" of FVL may mean you have TWO copies of the gene (which is autosomal dominant), which puts you at an EXTREMELY higher risk for blood clots. Anticoagulant therapy is LIFESAVING.
