This algebra video tutorial shows you how to factor trinomials in the form ax2+bx+c when a, the leading coefficient, is not 1. It shows you how to use the ac method to factor such trinomials that contain 3 terms which involves factoring polynomials by grouping. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems for you to work on. Examples include how to factor 2x^2-5x-3 , 6x^2+11x-10 , 12x^2+11x-15

How do you know where the numbers go after you split the middle number up? Like -5x split into -6 & 1, how do you know which number comes first in the equation
@thethinkinggamer1864
@thethinkinggamer1864 Год назад
@Nikson Thomas In order to make -5 you must add -6 and +1, doesn't matter which order they're in but as long as they exist in their correct corresponding values it doesn't matter, I could put 1-6 or -6+1, it wouldn't make a difference.

THANK YOU. I am a Public School Teacher with a weaker math background and run a computer lab for students to recover lost credits in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Therefore, I must know AT LEAST as much as the material my students are exposed to. I have NEVER understood the factoring with an initial coefficient of more than 1. No one breaks it down step by step. With a Master's in Special Education, I must say, "A job well done. "

The AC method + Grouping is the most common approach for factoring trinomials (besides trial-and-error). The only down side to the AC method + Grouping is that the constant can get quite large (when doing AC). Sometimes, it's faster and easier to use a version of trial-and-error, using Tic-Tac-Toe factoring. I love it.
