Sir i have a doubt. You say that carbon monoxide increases affinity for oxygen in haemoglobin. But isnt carbon monoxide itself suppose to attach with haemoglobin( forming carboxyhaemoglobin ) and prevent oxygen combining.
the curve is recorded at different pressure of O2 itself. The partial pressure is fundamental factor to produce the curve whether shifted or not. Then we study effect of different factors how they affect O2 saturation at different partial pressures. I hope you are getting it.

First time I have fully understood this. I guess that’s why they say to read Ganong but in reality med students chose to learn from other books which are less time consuming but skip on the core concept making.
