For as long as Gas Blowback Rifles have existed in the Airsoft scene, they always had a bad reputation. Not being able to perform during winter, being maintenance intensive and being fragile are only a few of them. Today we'll bring you an explanation of many of these myths, so people can better understand them and don't need to fear for the supposedly big negatives that come with these Airsoft guns as is told by many.
We'll cover the next subjects:
- “GBBRs can’t be used during winter”
- Loading a gas magazine?
- “Soft BBs are bad for GBBRs”
- “GBBRs are maintenance intensive”
- “GBBRs are fragile”
- “GBBRs can take real rifle parts”
- “GBBRs are much more expensive to run”
- “Out of the box GBBRs are not good”
- “Only HPA tapped GBBR are good”
- Changing from an AEG to a GBBR
- Usage of a GBBR
- Dropping GBB Magazines

I recently started airsofting and immediately went for gbbr. Everytime I go airsofting, everyone wants to shoot it and not get shot by it. Love the gun. Heads up, this is a trick we did in the army, the last 5 rounds of a mag make different color bbs so you know when youre about to run out. Or if you're running tracers, swap a few non tracers in so it flags you of low ammo.
@ReconBrothers

Cool! Yeah we thought of doing that some time ago but we didn't find a tracer we link yet. ;-) I Instinct

@TheMan TheLegend I always did two tracers mid mag and the rest at the bottom of the mag. So you knew if you were in the upper or lower half of the mag if you had seen those two tracers or not. If you had, tactical reload, if not keep rocking. Good SOP's. Sometimes we ran staggered in the bottom also so you would have more of a heads up than the last few rounds. We tried both and guys used which they felt more comfortable with. My speed reload was good so I just ran them all together instead of staggered. US Army Infantry here. Thank you for your service. The issue in my mind is, that the same person who has a high understanding of their gun using their perfectly customized GBBR would probably be able to outplay their 1:1 clone with and aeg that has received as much attention as the gbbr. The high amounts of ammo in their midcaps allow for a potentially higher speed of play due to fewer reloads and more potential for suppressive fire (To quote my intructor in basic training "The one who shoots FIRST, shoots MORE and shoots more ACCURATELY wins firefights"). I love both systems for different reasons. A high-quality AEG is just as amazing as a beautifully intricate GBBR, and I can't wait for my BCM MCMR.

As soon as I saw three different types of gas on the table, I knew this video was heading the right direction :) As a rule of thumb, you want to keep most GBBRs working between 80 and 160 PSI. The pressure stated in those cans are measured at 30ºC, but pressure changes with temperature, so use a temperature to pressure charts to choose the right one for the given conditions. Green gas is just propane, red gas is propylene, and black gas is... I have no idea :p To put it simple: Green gas: 15ºC to 35ºC | Red gas: 5ºC to 25ºC | Black gas: -5ºC to 15ºC Any of those can get a little above the stated upper limit, but going much further can cause damage to the mags (even bloating in some old design such as WE's first-gen 1911). Similarly, they can go some degrees below the stated lower limit, but performance suffers greatly. Awesome video guys, this channel rocks!

My best advice to anyone looking to make the switch from AEG to GBBR is to play a full game day using only your pistol. Even outdoors. This change forces you to constantly shoot and move, and only fire when you have a good angle on your target, rather than sitting in a bush and constantly spraying BBs at the same bit of cover for 10 minutes. If you enjoy playing like this, then maybe you're ready for a GBBR. If not, maybe stick to an AEG, or at least consider graduating slowly via a recoil AEG and/or real capacity mags. Good luck!
@ReconBrothers
@ReconBrothers 4 года назад
We usually suggest to change to real-cap mags or load your mags with only 30-40 rounds, but the pistol idea might indeed be a good alternative as well. 👍 I Viper

I’m really scared of LiPos and Fires so currently I’m rocking a springer tri shot shotgun, a sniper and a NBB Mk23. Upgraded the NBB pistol outperforms some AEG. GBBRs are another part of a realistic part of airsoft that has always made me love them. Might even buy one one day. Plus the part in the vid that you know where and when your shots will hit is more of me. I notice even when I first started with rentals I couldn’t just spray and hope that some bb will hit. I’m more in the accurate side.

I have a new WE M4 SOL and bought a RA-Tech 2018 silver bolt and it sucked. Didn't cycle properly and ended up breaking my new RA-Tech NPAS nozzle. Went back to the stock bolt. From what Gaz mentioned, heavier bolts aren't good due to less gas efficiency, greater stress on non-steel parts, and less effective in cold weather. Best upgrades to have is an NPAS to adjust the FPS (more consistent FPS), Maple Leaf bucking, and a quality 6.05 barrel. Rock on GBBR crew!!!!

With my WE MSK, I have a really simple lube setup. Wipe the bolt dry enough with a paper towel, no need for a deep clean most of the time. Apply white lithium grease wherever the bolt will touch the rails in the gun. Assemble gun. Work the charging handle a few times to lube the length of the rails. Then I just pull the bolt and apply some synthetic motor oil to the bolt with a q-tip before reassembling once more and letting it sit. The grease can be left for 3-6 months at a time, and the motor oil will last 2 or 3 games. If there are any gas leaks, I apply silicone oil to the o-rings in the nozzle, same as on a pistol.

I did receive the gun and I've tested it at my property. So far, the gun shoots very well, I am quite happy with it. One issue that bugs me though are the mags (the metal ones). It appears that when loading them, something hits the nozzle and that causes gas to sprout all over. So far I am still searching for a solution.

I've been hardcore eyeballing the KWA GBBR Tavor SAR21 rifle but didn't make the leap because of the issues that you touched on in the video such as the low magazine count, weak metal and not working in colder weather. I really feel like I would have more fun playing Airsoft if I was using a GBBR Tavor rather than an AEG that holds a near infinite amount of rounds. Also looking at Umarex G17, since that is my carry gun, so I can work drills at home, since going to the range all the time is expensive. Thanks for watching! We always try to keep budget in mind as well, but it does not make our decision. Eventually you would want something that you like and can rely on. So if you want to get the GHK I would recommend to go for it. There is always something you can save a bit of money on and buy it later. We often hear of people who want everything to start off with and thus they buy lower quality. Eventually they buy the better product anyway. Not to say that KWA is bad as we don't have any experience with their guns. Airsoft replica's can indeed be used to practice drills and the closer the gun gets to the real gun the better. | Instinct

Hi, Just found your channel and very much enjoyed this post. My thoughts are as follows. As an ex soldier from back in the day, my gameplay style reflects the way I was trained. I tend to not "run and gun" and prefer tactics and field craft. I am currently running (usually) a Krytac LVOA with low cap mags, but was getting frustrated by being outgunned by people who were hosing out BB's , so I had a custom build high cycle Firehawk with a drum mag and can hose out shedloads of BB's but its not very satisfying. Have mostly used my airsoft things for training, have done a few little skirmishes with a small group. For more of the training purpose i got a TM Scar next-gen, to have a bit of best of both world scenarios between AEG and GBB rifle. Last time i played was in a tight CQB setting and i had my magazine still set on 120 (instead of real cal 30) and had 3 of them. After every time almost everybody kept reloading there magazines (120 or even high-cap), 3 rounds later i was still using my first 120 round magazine. Everybody almost just keeps spraying and spraying and i was using only semi with a few shots , maybe to suppress i would fire 3 or 4 then i would try to move. The later games i just played with my GBB pistol instead in the same way, and even then after one game i used maybe 2 mags do to my use of my ammo compared to other players. After that i realized how much my training and mostly training with real firearms before using airsoft makes u play a lot different compared to the "normal" players. And put all my magazines to 30 only. I am planning on doing some small upgrades for my TM after the few times i used it, mostly a mosfet unit for the trigger. But also really start to look more and more at a good GBBR to just go as real as possible, also big nice point is the maintenance part which is much more simple then an AEG and less expensive when having to replace things. As you mentioned the start is the most expensive, getting a GBBR and the magazines. But looking at brands, from what i have seen and compared, looks like GHK would be the best overall. Also use in colder weather they seem to work almost the same as in normal weather from what i see besides also having the option to choose from gas and Co2. And i like to be a bit different in what replica i use and they have different options too, really like the SIG 553 look that u never see anywhere Any suggestions or thoughts and what to look at or go for are always welcome

We ourselves were in between choosing the TM GBBR and GHK replicas. We mainly choose TM because they have a very good hopup system and are ready to go out of the box. Mostly we hear that GHK is more realistic but isn't as good as a TM MWS out of the box. So if you like it to be as realistic as possible and like to do some upgrades you can take your chances with GHK. I Instinct

Well, mostly on point but... The problem with soft BB's is not that they deform due to the pressure, but simply that the GBB systems are more rough when they pick up the round and chamber it. Its this that damages the BB and then when the damaged bb gets into the barrel you get the jam. But the damage to the BB came before the BB were fired. On charging the Mag, there is no reason to do it in 1 second bursts. If you fill it continuously for 3 sec or do 3-4 short bursts, get you the same amount of gas. The point is not to overfill the magazine, and its actually quite simple. Inside the magazine there is a length of tube attached to the inlet-valve, this is there to prevent overfilling, as you fill the mag the level of liquid will reach this tube, and this will cause and increase in pressure. If you fill your magazine without and O-ring in the inlet this is where the magazine will overflow, spraying gas around the inlet valve. When you have an O-Ring this does not happen, and you will overfill the magazine if you just keep the bottle on there. The trick is to listen, there is a distinct change in flow when you fill beyond the tube. You only want enough liquid propane in your magazine to empty it, and still have a few drops of liquid left. ... Why the "How meany BB's can a (totally overfilled) magazine shoot" tests you see all over RU-vid is about the as restarted as it gets. The reason that just emptying your full magazine by pushing the release valve, can be bad for your seals is the not the pressure drop but the cold. You freeze your seals quite thoroughly if you do it all in one go. Waiting with cleaning a GBB until you notice friction on charging the gun? Then you are sure to have it scratched up real good. Airsoft guns are generally made from softer metals then other mechanical equipment , keeping contact surfaces on moving parts clean and lubed is simply essential, unless you want to sell spare parts. And just aimlessly applying lube to all surfaces on parts, especially exposed parts like the BC is asking for dirt to build up in you gun. Lube only contact surfaces, use as little as possible and remove excess lube. And never, ever, just spray your GBB internals with thin silicone oil. Also, GBB's and other gas weapons have more "creep", why you don't ever want to relate to "fps" or "m/s" readings, but need to look at the joules delivered. Increasing the BB weight on a AEG, generally does not gives you more energy, unless you have a really short barrel. But in a Gas system, the actual energy delivered down ranges increases with BB weight. So calculate the Jules, or you are basically cheating by using a gun that delivers more energy, unless you adjust your nozzle flow valve timing accordingly. To use "Creepy guns" to get an advantage may be considered part of the game in the UK, but elsewhere it positively will get you banned if you try to cheat the power regulations that way.

Apparently it hits and shoots harder than most sniper rifles do out of the box, so now I'm looking into what options I have because I love this thing and after shooting it at the firing range at the airsoft field my shoulder was bruised, has so much recoil in such a small platform. If I can't find any options which are already limited because it's relatively new and not much for after market parts, then the store I bought it from said they have no problem giving me a refund.

I run a VFC HK416 A5 GBB. I use 0.43BB's and 14lb gas; it's more stable in colder conditions and my BB is like a laser for about 70m. The gun is set to 130m/s in winter and 150m/s in summer. I play in the jungle in Taiwan so we don't have fps or joule limits but we are careful and respect our team mates. The recoil causes parts to loosen and I have had to replace pins and the mag release as these little parts had fallen out and I couldn't find them, sometimes my optic lens protector unscrews and needs to be tightened, just making sure all these little parts are in their place and tightened up after each game should save you some trouble and money. (you can use locktight on threads) I maintain, clean and oil the gun about once a week. (We play every Sunday). Gas and 0.43BB's can get expensive but I love my GBB. It can be frustrating when you have a misfeed that jams the bolt/hammer and empties the gas out the mag during a game because it's loud and gives away your position without a doubt...you may have a full mag but if the jam happens within the first 2 or 3 BB's then that mag is useless for that game, unless you carry gas. A double feed (which can happen easily) can also damage your hop so you need to be aware of what's happening in your gun. Overall the recoil, realism and mechanics of the gun make it a pleasure to use during a gun fight. Fast mag changes are awesome to practice due to the need to change regularly. I absolutely love mine. Thanks for the awesome content. I was so lucky to find your channel when I first started because you saved me loads of money and effort. THANK YOU!

Pretty good vidya. I would mention something like ViperTech for durability or the new VFC M4 Gen2's. The Vipertech is made with heat treated oil quenched steel internals and 6061 receivers, stronger than any AEG made... period. It will outlast you aside from some of the interior springs. The VFC Gen 2 now has a steel FCG, so likewise, extremely durable. With enough work and tuning, or steel aftermarket parts, even WE M4's are shockingly durabe. Also some platforms like the ViperTech can take soda stream bottle fills for their mags if you convert GHK propane magazines with a GHK CO2 bullet valve and a KJW Infill valve, which enables you to motor through even --20.
