Guys, I learn some facts about bass fishing in this video that I never knew before in bass fishing! I got to fish with Mark Sexton, a 20+ year pro in fisheries biology. Mark is full of knowledge when it comes to bass behavior, and I learned so much from him in our time together.
Hope you enjoy this and that it helps you!!

Of all the videos you’ve made this has to be one of the top 10. I am 73 years old and have been fishing Bass, Crappie, and Pearce for 68 years of my life and I learned more than any other video I ever watched. I also am in the process of changing my boxes to at least 90% Berkeley baits.

The Berkley Research Video was Awesome. The information has lead me to purchase a large number of Berkley products. Anglers baits, hooks, line, etc. and more. Quality Baits in the upper price range are still the least expensive part of an angulars overall expense to bass fish. Thanks Edwin !

My question would be to ask Mike, being a bass's sense of smell is so great and capable of memory retention, do they recognize human scent and detour when they come into contact. Should we be careful not to over handle our baits to prevent contaminating it with human or any other scent that may detour fish? I'd love to spend some time in the Berkley research facilities to better understand how they come to conclude their studies. Very interesting stuff! 👍
@MrTrikai
@MrTrikai 3 года назад
I can not remember where I saw this - perhaps a recent article in In-fisherman but I believe their finding was that fish were deterred actually by sun block and therefor if handling a bait would unknowingly deter fish if it was on your hands. My assumption is the same as yours - they can smell us. No doubt. And our fears of getting skunked.
@zrulz
@zrulz 3 года назад
as Kaili Purviance mentioned, I don't want to induce human odors on lures, so I carry a box of nitrile gloves in my boat so I can apply sunscreen and NOT get it on fingers and palms. I do dab or tap the back of my hand on an area of my arm where sunscreen is applied to get some protection on back of my hands (I can't get use to fishing gloves). Bill Dance said the back of his hands are severely sun damaged because sunscreen technology was not very understood in 60's, 70's, and 80;s.

Guys, humans have a sense of balance from the cilia (hairs) in our eustachian tube in our ears. That is why when we spin around a stop suddenly we fell dizzy and unbalanced. The cilia continue in the original direction for a while.It make sense that fish a a way to sense balance and movement.

Awesome content Edwin! And very good question about memory because we always wonder about that. It sounds like if there is not a “negative experience“ involved (like shaking them off a worm or soft plastic), there’s a higher chance to catch them within the next few days on that same bait. Plus, you’ve probably experienced that many times before too. God bless and tight lines!

Man that’s a completely new perspective to catch fish. More about thinking and seeing like a fish. We all know pumpkin is a staple in all our boats, but I guess I’m wondering now when the fish go through the periods when they just smash a bright yellow or bubble gum swimming worm or Senko. Wonder what color they are seeing then? Keep these great videos coming.
