FAILED ZoomLock PUSH FITTING | the Risk WAS NOT worth it | HVAC Tech

In this video, I return back a year and one day later to the job where I installed a push fitting, hoping I would strike gold, and that it would last. Granite it was installed near the ground. Kind of had a weird space if it had been in a closet or isolated away from landscapers, and other maintenance technicians, may not have had a failure, but it should be able to withstand those type of elements being rated for 800+ PSI.
So when I installed it last year, I only charge for refrigerant to fill the system and I told the customer that and I did not charge for the labor. What I ended up doing for this call was not charging for refrigerant just labor and doing it right! need to install the gutter guard or PVC to strengthen the copper from future damages.
Hope y’all enjoyed the video if you could smash that 👍 button and SUBSCRIBE!! Appreciate yall 🫡

a few things, first time I read this, this morning , on an OEM site, that hard pipe must be used for the first three feet on a connection to the compressor, or or a vibration eliminator installed. My first 20 years in the trade I never used soft tubing... everything was type L hard ARC and brazed fittings, cushy-clamps and strut or F&M plates and split rings with threaded rod. I only use hard pipe with any push to connect and press fittings (last 10 years or so). zero leaks so far. Us older techs tend to be resistant to change on new technology, I try hard to give it a whirl. but I noted there are limitations to some of these fittings. I would never put them underground or on the ground or unsupported on both sides. Remember, this in not a hard connection, and with that flex comes risk. That piping looks like it took a beating. If I were to try that one again, I would support it and use straight clean Type L hard pipe. I saw online One 3/4" fitting was $30. vs about $1 for a sweat fitting. you do unquestionably save on time, Nitro, Acetylene stick... fire risk and fire guard, and hot works permits... but the fitting cost adds up fast.If it screws up it usually costs two fittings to fix it ( I don't believe these are removable like a shark bite)... at least your giving it a whirl though. Also you can't account for Landscapers and home owners. Then again, they cause you to make money.

That’s great information Mike! I don’t think it was in the ideal position honestly, especially right at ground level and at a walking path so I wouldnt completely fault the fitting, some user error. Appreciate the feedback, I may give it a shot again, I don’t think it would be in a condo, apartment scenario, would maybe be inside vs outside as well and at a dedicated home!!

💯 percent someone stepped on that press fitting causing a leak and why I only use solder fittings unless it’s a mini split repair above ground . Love your vids man! Stay humble!

For sure they did 🤦‍♂️ the issue in the beginning when I first did it was, it was a brazed elbow that more then likely stepped on, so I said what the hell 🤷‍♂️ I wouldn’t be against these in a evap Stuart or by the condenser. Appreciate you brother 🙏

I still can't understand running linesets underground. Just seems like its destined for failure. Moisture intrusion, leaks, opportunities for getting stepped on and or hit with lawn equipment, oil traps...etc....not bagging on how it goes in FL....just doesn't seem like the best way to run refrigerant lines. Please enlighten me if you have more information...I'm definitely not HVAC Jesus That wrap on the van is dope as hell

@KoolinwithKrauss 5 месяцев назад
Bro I’m 💯 with that!! I can’t say why, it’s just how “Florida does it” from how I heard Bryan Orr say it, so I just ride with that 😂 but no clue brother wish I had a better answer. But it’s just dumb
@scotts4125
@scotts4125 5 месяцев назад
I'm in Florida and all linesets aren't run like that. Most single family homes in So. Fl are run up the side of the house with a lineset cover into the attic and dropped depending where they need to be. It also sucks on condos where the condensers are on the roof and the linesets are in the walls floor to floor. They might have to open a hole on an upstairs apt for a leak in another apt. Neighbors love that. lol

In my opinion press and crimp on is a fail point . At least with brazing you are making 2 pieces into 1 . I mean I get the purpose and it’s a good thing in some situations but I would trust a braze over a snug fit any day .
@KoolinwithKrauss
@KoolinwithKrauss 5 месяцев назад
Ya man I’m with you on that. I’d still like to give the press a shot. But you can’t beat the braze, you just can’t!!
@sykotictendencies6032
@sykotictendencies6032 5 месяцев назад
@@KoolinwithKrauss also with those types of fittings if the tubing gets moved it weakens the connection a lot easier which will cause a leak . So it’s not necessarily a problem with the fittings necessarily but could be with something that happened because of people or animals .

@KoolinwithKrauss
@KoolinwithKrauss 5 месяцев назад
It’s just pure stupidness 😂 but in Florida most linesets run through a chase and are under ground! Why they do it that way is still a mystery to me. On new homes they sometimes run it out the wall but 90% of the time underground
