For the second of my new years specials, i take a look at my top 10 racing games of all time. Don't forget to like and subscribe :), also if you are feeling really generous you can support me on patreon www.patreon.com/user?u=2469444
I had a 24-hour race running on B-spec mode in GT4 and went to sleep with a really good lead on other cars. In the morning i wake up just in time to see my dad turn of the PS2 with maybe 1 hour of the race left to run because he thought i had forgotten to turn it off in the evening. I politely explained him the situation and we agreed that after that point he would never touch any of my electronics.
Paradise didn't have standalone crash junctions, but each intersection in the game has its own high score. There were no special settings or jumps, you work with what you got. I do agree, it was an insanely fun (and sometimes frustrating) mode and very good party game. I hope Criterion goes for another Burnout after they stop fucking up NFS.
Showtime mode was nothing like the crash junctions though, and even though I had a good time with the mode (I maxed the score out at 2,147,483,647, I would have got a bigger score if the game allowed it) it's basically a game of patience, bus spotting and getting to the highway before you run out of burnout meter.
They only did two which is Need for Speed Hot pursuit 2010 and Most wanted 2012, Which I enjoy a lot. Don't know why people hate it... Because its a burnout clone and not original? Ok...
3 games for need for speed? But I remembered 2... What was the Third one? And why is it the death of need for speed? It still going on with... Need for Speed.
kayto101racer I want that for but for the v8 Supercars as I watch them Moto GP and F1 and they all have a game but the v8 Supercars. This make me sad😭😭😥
Alas, the only way we have it currently in Forza is in Forzavista at the moment. But yes, that is an awesome feature. Also, something else that was pretty revolutionary in TDU... was the fact you could use the indicators and hazard lights. When I first discovered that, I have no idea why, but I instantly fell in love with the game completely.
Great list.....thanks for taking the time to do this. I just got Horizon 3, can't wait to play it....Looking forward to Gran Turismo VR this year, also....Happy New Year
Holy crap! when you mentioned Enthusia on number 10 I was freaking out. I haven't played that game since I was 8 years old - 10 years old one of the best racing simulator games I've ever played! :)
You need to try V-Rally 3´s career mode, I have Toca race driver and V-rally 3 and I think V-rally 3 has better career mode, because there is not only the driver contracts there is also dynamic team balance, like while you driving a Subaru, you get message that Citroën increases it´s budget to improve the Xsara´s performance, so you need to think should do contarct to Citroën for next season ? And you can´t win with a bad team. And that is the best career mode what I have ever seen. I won multiple championships with Seat Cordoba. And there is difference between cars, like Seat was really fast on smooth surface but bad on jumps, and Citroën was very wide and stable. But I need to think my top 10 list.
I had a tv setup with Burnout Takedown I believe at my bachelor party a few years ago. 12 drunk guys shouting at the tv and things explode is something I have a hard time remembering but will never completely forget.
My honest opinions on your selections, if you're looking for a well-thought-out comment: 10. *Enthusia Professional Racing*: Sadly, I never got a PS2, which is a real shame. When I saw you play the game it really intrigued me with its system for rewarding cars, the visuals, and some of the track layouts. 9. *Midnight Club Los Angeles*: I myself prefer Midnight Club 3, which is why I bought both versions. I much prefer the flow and handling engine in Midnight Club 3, especially because it doesn't have those annoying crash cinematics where you completely lose control of your car in Midnight Club LA. However, I do like how difficult LA is in comparison and the customization in the game is very detailed. 8. *Colin McRae Dirt*: Can I just say how good Codemasters is at their craft? This channel is literally the only reason why I bought Colin McRae Rally 3 and Toca Race Driver 3, both of which are good fun. Difficult fun, but good nonetheless. Anyways, this is another one of those games that I have not, and most likely will never get the pleasure in playing without having the system to play it on. Too bad because I would like to venture more into off-road racing that isn't rally. 7. *Gran Tursimo 4*: Didn't have a PS2 when I gave my opinion on Enthusia Professional Racing, still don't when I'm doing this. One thing that I can give GT that Forza just doesn't do is interesting and obscure cars as well as the crazy GT Vision cars. It's a shame it lacks car customization. Overall, if given the opportunity, I'd give it a play. 6. *Need For Speed Underground 2*: Makes me glad my Xbox still works, because this is one good game. I remember when I recently plowed through the entire career mode using the Miata. Bayview was a very enjoyable place to just explore, especially the Jackson Heights. I definitely like the the car customization and the fact that the lack of traffic in the races let them flow nicely, but made sure to put the traffic in the most arsey places, such is right in the middle of the racing line. Also, I personally liked the little comicesk cutscenes that the story had, very artful. 5. *Burnout 3: Takedown*: I'm just going to come right out and say that I think it's only the best Burnout game. I'm also going to say how frustrated I am that I can't play Burnout Paradise. Even though I still would probably prefer Burnout 3 over Paradise, I'd love to give it a play. The main reason why I think Burnout 3 is superior to Paradise is I think that Burnout is a game that works better as a linear, imaginary-walled, racing game. Sure I think that Paradise looks fun, very fun in fact, but I think some of the essence of Burnout is lost going to open-world. However, it'll be nice if Need For Speed can go open-world. Maybe then I would like there series more than Midnight Club. 4. *Forza Horizon 3*: If only I can get this game. I would make only the silliest and most berserk cars imaginable. I've always wanted to play a game with Forza tuning and rally aspects. More importantly, I want a Forza game with drivetrain conversions, something Forza 1 lacked. Also, just having this game gives me at least a chance to participate in Vs. The Community. 3. *Burnout Paradise*: Well, I kinda already said my thoughts about this game, and I do think it's worthy of its position on the list. 2. *Project Gotham Racing 4*: I've only played PGR and PGR 2 myself, but the reason I like those two is the same reason I would like PGR 4, the Kudos system. I do like this system because it was a means of winning without actually "winning", if you know what I mean. And if PGR 4 is anything like the two I've played, that means it's choke-full of incredibly technical and tricky city circuits, which is something I can get behind. 1. *Toca Race Driver*: Truly worthy of the top-spot, just not what I would've expected. I remember the Toca video when it came out. In fact, if i remember correctly, it was the first video I remember seeing in your "Classic Driving Game" series. It's a shame _Pro Race Driver_, as it's called in North America, hasn't shown up in my local gaming store. I've at least gotten Toca Race Driver 3 which does have some of the career elements that the first does, so that's a plus. If only more racing games can do a career like that... Needless to say, it's been a good time to be around this channel. I can remember now the video that first brought me here, which was the Renault Alpine A110 video for Rally Car Builds on Forza Horizon 2. Glad I've stayed around for this long and I'm glad to call this channel my favorite on all of RU-vid.
Here is a game that I loved playing on the PS2: Tokyo extreame racer 2 (I can't remember the name but that is what I think it is). It was about street racing (and drift racing) in the mountains of Japan. The graphics were good (better than Gran Turismo), the handling was good, the story was fun, it was one of my favorite games. The car selection was limited to Japanese cars, but it was so much fun that I could've cared less, plus there were cars that I had never heard of before. There was weather, gravel roads, snow. And to go racing, you would just go see who was at the parking area at the mountain. In the day there were sponsors and legal racing. The street racing was done at night. It was great fun and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys racing games. It's fairly cheap to go and buy.
Have a brilliant 2017, Alex! This is a list I can agree with, especially seeing GT4 and PGR4 (The last racing game I know of from Bizarre Creations). I find that one of my favorite cars comes from PGR4 (naturally because it's agressive.) And thanks to Gran Turismo as a whole, I know of some obscure manufactures, like Venturi.
Amazing video! But i still miss two racing games from this list (maybe a top 12 ahahahaha) : Race Driver GRID and Crash Team Racing . So many good memories with them .
Yeah, I played Race Driver soooooooooooo much when i was little. It was my favorite game for years, then i forgot about it... Thanks for reminding me!!!
In my opinion, Horizon 3 needs 3 things to be at the top of my list. First of all, there needs to be the IRL Surfer's Paradise V8 Supercars circuit in the game. Next, the Groove Music radio station needs a shuffle. Third, the devs need to be MUCH more open with what they are doing, why FRC gift cars haven't been sent, why there are no photo comps this past week, etc.
PROJECT GOTHAM RACING HOLY SHIT Nobody talks about PGR anymore but godDAMN those games were fucking incredible. PGR3 was borderline shocking to play at release. It was so beautiful and there were so many cars and events, the difficulty system was SO well implemented, the cockpit views rival modern racing sims, you got to buy separate garages that you could walk around in and look at all your cars... AND you got to play Geometry Wars through arcade machines in your garages. I'm subscribing just because you brought up PGR. I need to boot PGR3 up on my Xbox sometime soon. I miss that game so much.
In America, Toca race driver was called Pro Race Driver. I was so confused when Toca 2 came out and it was a sequel to a game that had a different name. I love both of those games so much!
Kick ass video man. Wrong on the numbering order, hehe. Still, stuff like this makes me like your channel even more. I clipped my nails, ate a sandwich, and found something to disagree with. Really though, unique and appreciated is your content and perspective.
Why no My Summer Car on the list? I know it's not a racing game, but the cars on there were so friendly to you,Alex. Especially when they sent you to space (space beer, anyone?) ;) All kidding aside, great list. Unfortunately,I had never heard of the game-let alone the series-that you had as #1 on your list when I was younger, but most of my friends I race and play games online with today say that those games were some of the best games they've ever played just for the pure driving aspect of it, let alone the career mode. Seeing the game here on your channel makes me want to try it out even more so. While there were a couple of games that I didn't know about,I knew and played the following.. -GT4 -MC:LA -NFSU2 -Burnout Paradise -Forza Horizon 3 Thanks for these cool and different videos today,Alex. It was nice to hear your answers in the first video, and now to hear your top 10 list of racing games. As always, keep up the great content
I can give some honorable mentions that some people may have probably not have played: 1. Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Zero - The reason for this game for the top 1 is because it had over 200 cars to unlock, and it is hard to really race fast at first, but you have to earn it. The customization aspect is pretty good, even some AB Flug bumpers were featured before Forza got it. 2. Tokyo Xtreme Racer: DRIFT 2 (Touge No Dentesu) - Who likes touge? Basically the same as TXR Zero, but the physics were awesome, you got a radical feeling of driving your car even a Midget can beat a GT-R with 500HP. FailRace could try these two games, but wonder when he will give them a try. Genki should be able to make a modern game this year..
Enthusia was fun as hell. If only Konami remembered this game... they were certainly going all out with that game, other than MGS3. And in Enthusia, in some races, if there's a prompt about a certain car on the pre-race screen (I think on the top right of the screen or something) it means you're certainly winning that car on the raffle (usually the raffle has that car only) How about a livestream of the Driving Revolution mode later?
I saw the TVR Speed 12 in the flesh racing at Silverstone in British GT! Brutally quick, awesome noise, however odd regulations meant that it was also in the same class as a Saleen S7R, which even when starting nearly a lap late from the pit lane managed to beat it!
NFSUG2 was my first open world game i played, the very first game i played was this monster truck game for the N64 which had multiplayer, basically you're drag racing monster trucks over cars and i remember playing against my big brother before the hatred between us kicked in
I have a copy of most of these games and here in Australia, Toca race driver is called Australian race car driver. unfortunately, I haven't had the time to play this game for the best part of 4 or 5 years. I also have the original PGR game on the original xbox. Lots of fun :)
That's a great list right there. Here, have mine! 10: Project: CARS. A great game for a serious, competitive racer like myself. But... Not nearly as fun as one would think in terms of variety. But! I did get a load of fun out of racing with my friend, and that's something, right? 9: Next Car Game: Wreckfest. It's basically a modern FlatOut with mods, and I love that. 8: Driver: San Francisco. The last installment of a fantastic series that lasted over a span of about 15-20 years. Truly, it was a fitting goodbye from the studio known as Reflections, who was bought out by Ubisoft some time ago. Going back to the roots of Driver, putting the game into a San Francisco setting and giving Tanner a sexy 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T. Although I do believe Tanner had a Mustang in the original Driver. And we got a fantastic selection of cars. Everything from the VW Camper to a semi truck and a Pagani Zonda Cinque. We even got emergency vehicles and buses to play around with! 7: DiRT. I'm going to have to go with Alex on that choice. While DiRT 2 was the first game I ever played in the series, I took a look at DiRT later on and noticed they had gotten rid of a lot of diversity. For instance, you can have Dakar trucks as Alex pointed out, but if I remember rightly you could also race time-attack semi trucks up Pike's Peak! That's one thing that made the game truly unique. I would say more, but Alex pretty much covered everything I could say, which is good! 6: Burnout 3: Takedown. One of my all-time favorite racing games for four reasons: Insane Crash Junctions, an absolutely amazing late 90's/early 2000's soundtrack, the selection of cars, and the crazy-ass career mode. I absolutely loved taking the firetruck into a junction and causing as much havoc as possible. Oh, E.A and Criterion, how I miss your golden years. 5: Test Drive: Eve of Destruction. You could race buses around figure of eight tracks, and thrash cars with trailers behind them! You could even set a cheat code that would launch chickens out of the front of your car with suicide vests strapped on. Rest in pieces, chickies. But at least I got that takedown! Push-off events, which were essentially King of the Hill events, were insane too. Figure Eight Jump-Races were absolutely awesome as well. I loved everything about that game and still do. 4: Need For Speed: Underground 2. Alex, you covered everything about the game I loved. I will say though, I took my little Corolla GT-S as far as possible in the story mode before having to get something more powerful. I think I ended up getting a Supra. A fantastic classic that will be remembered for years and years to come. 3: Forza Motorsport 4. That game... I lost many-a-hour playing that one. My friend Wolfy and I would drift for hours. We spent the entirety of 2013 and most of 2014 playing it. We drifted, played tag, raced, and even started our own team. I still remember the last thing we did together as friends. We went drifting with my Supra and his RWD swapped R-32. For me, it's more sentimental... But Forza Motorsport 4 really was a truly great game, unfortunately it was the last time we would see Fujimi Kaido. And I think that's why it was so popular. It was one of very few games with an actual downhill mountain section. 2: Rig 'n' Roll. Yes, a trucking game. But specifically, the youngest sibling in the line of Hard Truck games. In Russia, it's labelled as Hard Truck 3. And I wish it would've been called that in America, too. You race around California, competing in various competitions to deliver cargo or just race other big rigs from one city to the next. And to top it off, you got Nitrous Oxide. And you got the ability to customize your truck however you saw fit. Interior designs, chrome mirrors and panels, new engines, safety equipment like a backup camera, and so much more. Didn't have a bad soundtrack, either! But I imported my own music into the game because that's a thing you can do. An amazing homage to the Hard Truck series, a series I grew up with that started my love of racing, and semi trucks. 1: Forza Horizon 3. An absolutely marvelous piece of work. I've been playing Forza since Forza Motorsport 2. Played both Horizon games before Horizon 3 as well. Forza Horizon 3 takes the cake from me because it has everything I want. Daily drivers, supercars, hypercars, trucks, track toys, rally cars, trophy trucks, classic cars, and with the edition of Blizzard Mountain - Ice racing! It's also got dynamic weather, working windshield wipers, and a fantastic handling model that makes driving with my G-27 feel perfect. The Drivatars are amazing too, seeing as I can have all my best friends hired on my festival lineup at once! They really outdone themselves with Horizon 3, and I'm very glad it lived up to the hype because not many games do these days.
Burnout paradise does have crash mode, you press LB+RB (L1+R1 for Playstation) and crash mode activates. And you can activate it anywhere on the map. NOTE: you press the buttons at the same time.
It is not crash mode, it is Showtime. It works very differently, more like a bowling game than the puzzle oriented Crash mode was in Burnout Takedown and Revenge
well done Failrace i like toca race driver as it has more cars like the touring cars but the other toca race driver 2 and toca race driver 3 thay do but the DTM are called touring cars thay have the V8 engine :) i love that one where you get all different cars and tracks to do and win races i like that one and you can chose your own laps i think on the pro career you can chose your own tracks to race on and cars and all of that :) that is why i put toca race driver the number 1 toca race driver 2 in 2 and toca race driver 3 in 3rd place and then colin Mcrae rally in 4 and the one on ps3 it is and some of the other racing games i got i would do that aswell but some of them ant very good to play i can tell you that Failrace
Weird I was thinking about Toca Race Driver today and how I loved the story in that mode and wishing they brought it back, Maybe you can do a playthrough off Toca Race Driver career mode ?
my top 10 would probably be. 10. Collin Mcrae rally 9. Forza motorsport 2 8. Gran turismo 1 7. Toca race driver 6. V rally 2 5. Gran turismo 3 A-spec 4. Forza motorsport 1 3. NFS hot pursuit 2 2. Toca touring cars 1. Gran turismo 2
As much as i loved nfsu 2 being a gran turismo 4 vet gran turismo 4 for me was by far the most entertaining gran turismo. its a shame you didnt place it higher. as you put it. gran turismo 4 was king in those days
A lot of those there, I played and loved. However, these are some of my absolute favorites:. GTR2 Re-Volt Destruction Derby Arenas The Crew Carmageddon
My favorite game ever must be Collin McRae Rally 3 from 2002! It was so good I could spend 3 hours per day just testing different cars and trying to beat my dads times on the different tacks.

If Midnight Club: L.A. would have came out for personal computers it probably would have become one of my favourite racing games, too.
NFSU2 - "some of the body kits looked shocking" youve reminded me of that one body kit for the supra... just... replace the rear bumper with a gateway into hell
PGR 4 was one of the best games ever. I spent hours upon hours unlocking all the cars, trying to get better lap times, and just having a blast with the Kudos system. NFSU2 was another game that many hours were sunken into to. I brought so much to the series and even though people call it a rice simulator, the customization was unheard of in any other game at the time. As for Burnout Paradise, I was never able to play the full game but after playing the demo I fell in love with it. I had always loved the Burnout games, especially Burnout 2 (another game that made the hours just fly by) and Burnout 3 as well (Crash Mode!). Burnout Paradise just took everything there was to love about Burnout and just ramped it up to 11.
7:10 I agree with this totally. I could not enjoy this game so much because I had the PS3 version, which was a horrible glitchy mess. Glad to see you liked it though. 11:30 there was in fact just one new car available for 10,000cr- a 2003 Nissan Micra which not only left you about 50cr to spare, but was useless except for its own racing series (another great aspect of the game was letting you use most of the cars in some kind of context).
Burnout Paradise has a crash mode, it's integrated into driving around, you have to hit LB and RB (XB360/XB1) at the same time to activate it, also has a leaderboard-esque ranking system for every street. It's instead called Showtime.
ToCA Race Driver was release in 4 names, TOCA Race Driver, DTM Race Driver in Germany, Pro Race Driver in North America and V8 Supercar: Race Driver in Australia.
I'm so nostalgic about the old Colin McRae Rally games, especially the first one, it was the very first racing game i played on ps1 i was only 6-7 year old when i played it but i remember it like it was yesterday. I hate nostalgy
while burnout paradise may not have a formal crash mode, each road has a crash record, the way you enter crash mode I believe is by pressing both bumpers at the same time on xbox 360, not sure for ps3, and pc it's actually quite fun, and can be a bit challenging all that matters is you start on said road once it's started you can crash all across the city if you can keep it going
i would argue that the first game that really emphasized having a car _collection_ was nfs: porsche unleashed. the interesting thing about the game is the evolution mode, in which you're moving through different eras in time and the cars available reflect that. there's only a short window where you'll be able to buy a car new, and then after that you'll have to find any cars you didn't get in the used car dealer, and you may eventually miss your chance at owning a car entirely. that aspect ends up driving you to try and pick up as many cars as you can and hopefully obtain the full set. also, only a small selection of cars become available in the single player arcade mode, so in order to drive many of the cars you _have_ to own them in your career garage. that said, holy shit how have i never played toca race driver before that literally sounds like my dream racing game
Forza horizon 1 is in my mind the best forza game, especially if you look at the fact that it was the first one, and it might be bias because i live in Colorado
I personally think the original Forza Horizon deserves a spot on the list. Probably my favourite driving game of all time because of the amazing map, fun online, fairly diverse car list, and fun handling
Crash junction on burnout 3 reminds me of traffic jam. the second best flash game. 1 was a game I can't find you used a wreckingball to take out cars during their race
