Beato is great at revisiting and explaining music from past decades. For some of us it's a great reminder of how good music was back then, while for others it's a good introduction to how good music was back then.
I found this song back in 1997 just as I started dating my future wife. It always brings me back to that time in my life. 20 years and 3 kids later and I still get that feel of those days back in 97.
I was 17 when i 1st hrd this and it changed my whole game up back in '96. And now they're back making sick records. Let's just thank GOD for that brother. Bless you and your kids.
The album is mostly about addiction, yes, but Ken has always maintained that this song is about an infectious pop tune getting stuck in your head... but sure, you can read things into it if you want.
I was a teenager in the 90s. I had mtv on constantly. I listened to alternative radio like my life depended on it. How on earth did I miss these guys? Thank you, rick beato, for directing me to this gem.
Same here, it’s when I listened to music the most…my whole life was about listening to music. I thought i remembered every band no matter how obscure from the 90’s. I either have early onset Alzheimer’s or I totally missed this band somehow. Not here from Beato though, must have missed that video too.
I feel this too. Back in those days I was a junkie for shows like 120 Minutes, etc. I am only now hearing this band in 2023 for the first time. Great stuff!
I know this is song about addiction, but it really resonates on love themes so well on many levels, or maybe it just resonates on tremendous number of levels, and thats why this is so awesome piece of music
God, I love this song. It's funny how you can get stuck on a one-hit wonder just by chance if it happens to come at an opportune time of your life. I heard this on the radio back when I was about 16 and fell in love with it. Been a huge Ken Andrews fan ever since and have followed all his various musical endeavors. I am so glad Failure is back together and making music! Makes me proud of my decade.
Fantastic Planet is the only album that I have consistently listed to over the past 20 years. I would love it if you guys went back and remastered this video in HD. Would be pretty cool for a 20th anniversary.
Frankly, I'm a HUGE Ken Andrews fan, and I really thought FP was the worst thing they ever did. There are two good songs on the thing. You want a blown mind, listen to "Year Of The Rabbit", or "Secrets of the Lost Satellite"- or "On-Shifting Skin"--all by Andrews.
This song and video are brilliant because they are simultaneously a send up of radio friendly pop while masquerading as a James Bond theme that never was....
well in all fairness the old 2006 video never got a takedown thankfully and exists in an era of old days of RU-vid..but it is nice to see this in a much better definition.
Me everyday 😥 they're just too awesome, incredible talented musicians. The music that is as addictive as drugs and makes me feel alone in the world of 7 million people. 😪 Love Failure
I heard you driving in my car Then in a frozen bar I claimed I didn't care for you. But your verse got trapped inside my head Over and over again You played yourself to death in me. I thought I'd drop you easily But that was not to be You burrowed like a summer tick. So you invade my sleep And confuse my dreams Turn my nights to sleepless itch. Stuck on you, til' the end of time I'm too tired to fight your rhyme Stuck on you, til' the end of time You've got me paralyzed. Holding on the telephone I hear your midrange moan You're everywhere inside my room. Even when I'm all alone I hear your mellow drone You're everwhere inside of me. Stuck on you, til' the end of time I'm too tired to fight your rhyme Stuck on you, til' the end of time You've got me paralyzed. You've got me trapped I can't escape Your incessant whine When you beam it out All across the sky No I can't escape Your insipid rhyme When you shoot it deep Straight into my mind.
I'm pretty keen on 90's music and bands from that era, but why have I not heard of you guys until now?! Thanks to my local radio station for playing this song today so I could find your music on RU-vid..love your sound!! 👌
Because this was an actual alternative band from the 90's. They never really made it to the mainstream. Just played a few times here and there on MTV, but not very often. They never really got the promotion they deserved.
@@biphkreimier8210 Never too late...I just found them 2 weeks ago tomorrow but listen to them virtually non-stop since. Discovering new songs every day. Fun! Cheers! V
Just saw them last night in Sacramento. They were fully awesome and rocked the house like it was ‘96, except better- polished.. They are true musicians that have always never left any details when it came to songwriting, and taking into consideration of the final sound. What an awesome show- Heliotropic melted my face off.
Aidan97 Doesn't matter. I was 17 when I discovered Failure, almost 6 years ago. This music is timeless. Their new album is timeless. Failure is time, goddamnit!
How fucking lame, you’re not an OG Failure fan… is what I’d say if you were visiting another band’s page. Music is for anyone who spends a little time with the sounds. I’m glad you you dropped by. Wish you brought friends!
F'n love the drum-driven Rock'n'Roll! The Fantastic Planet record is my favorite of the 90's alongside "Nevermind" and "Pretty Hate Machine"! It held the 'clean-up' spot in my 3x6-disc Pioneer CD changer for more than a decade - until the beotch gave out, with practically every night ending with the spaced-out concept record chiming through my brain - ThanQ Gents - glad you're comin' back!!!
Yes and when the best stuff could be found on "120 Minutes" every Sunday night. Thank goodness there's MTV Classic to make up for what the original channel sadly became.
I found this song in '97 alternative radio KROC I was listening to EVERYTHING (have been since 10 yrs old) and it stuck to me along with all the other genres of music. So damn fortunate I was able to listen, experience and try EVERYTHING AND THEN SOME. If I didn't try it so be it at least I try it. This group "FAILURE' though is freaking awesome. Where are they now? Even if they are 'ONE HIT WONDERS' what a song to be remember for!!!! Still they ROCK!!! With all the up's and downs at times I still LOVE MY LIFE!!!
Woke up one morn hearing this song playing on the radio, it woke me up, it was my alarm clock, thought what a song, and it really made my entire day when it first came out.
TheRockCritic told me about this band and said Fantastic Planet was their best album. All I have to say about this song is FUCKING HELL, THIS IS GLORIOUS!!! Thank you, +TheRockCritic!
Failure coming to Baltimore!!!! Get the word out!!! June 2022!!! Hoping I can meet the band! A life long fan. Love these guys the day I met them. One day in 96, drunk off my ass in La Luna, Portland, OR
When I was a chef in university we wore out two copies of "Fantastic Planet", which I only bought on a whim because it was named after my favorite film of all time.
used to watch this on MTV2 when I was like 16. Heard this band last night and it made me think of it. Such a classic 90's sound. Gonna have to check out more of their stuff.
97 was a lost year.I always was with finger on pulse, zietgiest ,music, but every once in a while I hear a piece of media that I don't understand why I don't already know. Its always cause it was 97 and I was too busy being destroyed.
