So I'm a dork and made the same mistake I always do, I said Fairy was weak to Fire, when really its just that Fire resists Fairy. Thankfully all the logic and lore still applies, but my wording here was incorrect. That being said, Fairy could use a nerf, and making them weak to fire just makes sense! Wouldn't be the first time they changed weaknesses.

I don’t know why they got rid of Poison’s advantage over Bugs. Also Fighting should be weak to poison. An athlete who’s sick can’t really do much.

Dreeper Sen. Yeah. Considering that according to the Pokedex, Pokemon like Muk can leave ground barren for 3 years after (walking? sliding?) over it. Also GF literally made a Pokémon that’s a parody on ocean pollution, Galarian Corsola/Cursola.

I love the idea of Pokemon retroactively getting new types applied to them, I have a Gardevoir from Pokemon Emerald that just randomly decided at some point she doesn't feel like getting hit by Draco Meteor anymore.

Speaking of Gardevoir, the Pokedex says it can create black holes. WHY IS THIS NOT A MOVE YET??? Get on it Game Freak! Give us a black hole move for Gardevoir. It's a "black" hole, so it could be an uncharacteristically Dark type move, but since black holes are basically created by gravity, perhaps Ground type could be plausible as well.

In some stories that involve the fairy realm, when the protagonist returns from their adventure the time they return to is really random. Essentially, you could be their for a few minutes, but when you get back it has been years and the reverse is just as true.

Ghosts are blamed for unnatural phenomena. Like creaking doors or will of wisps. Fairies were blamed for natural phenomena, things like typhoons and drought and harvest.

The funny thing about Fairies is that what most people think is a fairy is not what fairies traditionally were. Fairies were at one point any magical creature including Goblins and Gnomes. And yes, Cthulhu could fall under the classification of fairy if it wasn't for the fact that he is so indescribable that people lose their minds over it. Then again some fairies were like that in mythology. Yes, Goblins are technically fairies. I just realized Snubbull and Granbull may be based on Cu Sith And yes, that thing is a freaking fairy. Cu Sith takes the form of a hybrid of sorts between a bull and a dog. Snubbull and Granbull are based on Bulldogs. Ya know, a subtle reference to Cu Sith.

It's iron actually but steel is nothing but iron with very high carbon content. Fae are generally adverse to iron among other things... such as clothing worn inside out.

Lockstin... do you remember what event happened??? Think about it... in Ruby and Sapphire, the type did not exist. But that was the non-mega universe. But, in the mega universe... Fairy type exists... So... what if... ironically... the Fairy Type was made by the same events that created Mega Evolution? Infinity energy actually causing an evolution and creating a new type...

Dragons are Pseudo-Elementals. Fairies are Fey. Dragon’s magic comes from a Primordial source plane, Fairy’s magic comes from being in tune with the magic inherent in the world. :]

@@diofet9960 I think a good explanation that could fit the narrative of this video is typically a fire is a force of nature, and to try and stop it would be more of a control focused idea than letting nature run its course. (I mean, it still doesn't *quite* fit in with the D&D Druid explanation because they are able to use spells that twist fire in some way, but it's a start.)

@@diofet9960 Are you referring to the resistance that the Fire type has to Fairy? If so, Lockstin explained it somewhat. Fire burns down nature and the Fairy type - according to the research done by Lockstin - is essentially nature magic thus it can't effect Fire, Poison, or Steel as easily as it could the other 15 types. All of those are human-related and are harmful to nature making nature have a hard time dealing with them, which is why they are the only 3 types that Fairy is resisted by.

In defense of Fairy's being pink, I always thought this was to put them in contrast to the more boy-ish types, like Dark, Fighting, and Dragon, which are all weak to Fairy. My headcannon is that these types are so obsessed with being cool and/or manly, that anything pink or girly becomes their Kryptonite :)

@@vermilionrubin Well the Seelie/Unseelie thing is more where people tried to moralize the Summer and Winter Court in which the division is about the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Ultimately Fairy come from many ancient Celtic Pantheons and would all be loosely defined as good. But if we are going to go with more contemporary fairy lore it would be better to simply call them Necessary.

I'm gonna make a slight stretchy reference here. In Final Fantasy 14 there's a job called Arcanist which can take two different paths, that of a Scholar or Summoner. Scholars are healers, using fairy magic along with their Fae companion, and the source of power for their spells come from something called AetherFLOW. Summoners on the other hand, are damage dealers, their source of power kinda comes from Bahamut(a destructive dragon), and in order for them to use their abilities they use a spell called Energy DRAIN. I find it real fascinating that a lot of those descriptions are similar to this video even if it was about Pokemon.

Interesting thing to note: Fairy means expressly the little insect-winged humanoids, however, spelled Faerie (which is pronounced exactly the same) the term grows to encompass nearly every beast and spirit in Northern European folklore, from the Seelie court composed of what we would call High-Elves and Nature Spirits to the Unseelie, composed of all sorts of n8ghtmarish creatures from goblins to Dullahan.

I agree with vermillionrubin here, a solar eclipse is the darkest light, a full moon is the brightest dark. I'm not just being contrary by the way, a solar eclipse occurs during the day, which is light ( assuming the world is functioning normally) and a solar eclipse is the darkest that light would get. Yeah, fairy is strong against them. Just like how fire is weak to rock, ground and water. It's a balanced type. The only nerf I'd give it is getting rid of it's resistance to bug.

They often use them themselves, though people often don't expect such from such an innocent-looking creature. (They're also used less often for actual personal gain and more just for their own amusement.)

when you said Dragons controlled raw, untamed magic, that made me think: what if Fairies beat dragons because they control REFINED magic? While dragons blast things away with their raw power, Fairy-type can hone it much better to completely trump the draconic power out of sheer knowledge of how to properly use it. Kinda like pitching a bodybuilder against a blackbelt. You know which one packs the raw power, but who will win is another matter. Also, you got it right when Fairy doesn't mean just "tinkerbell-ish" stuff. Some books like Clockwork Angel and animes like Ancient Magus Bride use the word "Fairy folk" to describe all creatures similar to fairies, including goblins, imps, small youkais, mermaids and such.

I would like to see the relationship between Fairy and Grass explored more. I understand that Fairy is more about "nature" as opposed to physical botany, but many monotype Fairy pokemon should clearly be dual Fairy/Grass like Florges and Comfey. Edit: 12:52 the difference between a raging volcano and a flowing river, while one can appear weaker than the other, they are both equal in strength. Edit 2: 22:08 the dragon type would probably be more accurately described as "primal", while the dragon type is pure raw energy, the fairy type is more controlled, and I do understand that some people would imply that it is weak, it can use the same amount of power, but is far more condensed, it's like being hit by a boulder vs being hit by a bullet.

So you forgot to mention, from a lore perspective....why are fairies strong against dark and fighting types? I kind of get the dark (because fairies are light and good which overcomes evil and all that jazz) but fighting type just seems out of left field. :) Also, despite dragon being my favorite type, I actually like the fairy type. They include various mystical creatures like yokai and fae, which I think is cool. Also, because of their introduction, game freak has been putting more dragons in the early game, since they're no longer this overpowered type that is only fair if you can get it late in the game. So, in summary, the fairy type has let me get some of my favorite Pokemon earlier. For example, In Ultra Sun I was able to get a Bagon after the first island instead of having to wait till after the eighth gym back in Emerald!

While the joke is that Fairies just creep trained, professional Fighters out... I suppose the Lore is in that Fairies are Trickster types. Can't fight fair against a being that can turn intangible to snicker & mock. While Fairy types are merely resistant to Dark (from what I can tell right now) that can be chalked up to saying that, as nature spirits, they live in the natural darkness... and know most of the oldest tricks in the book! Fairies exist in a grey area... good, but evil enough to be a threat.

Fighting types are weak to Psychic and Flying types because those two have a advantage when it comes to a 1 on 1 fight. Flyers have the air, and Psychic is either "brains over brawn" or "I wont let you touch me cause of telekinesis". Fairies are the tricker types, so they clearly can avoid damage from an an average fighter, all while hitting cheap tricks on them. With Dark, they are tricksters themselves, so they already know what dark types are fully capable of, so they dont see them as a threat. It's hard to scam a scammer.

Also, fairies type are also very linked with beauty, feminity and cuteness. Imagine a strong, big fighter against a sweet little baby.. it's probabily leave the baby "wins" the battle, and the baby use his appel and his advatange. Kinda make think in the greek mitology: Ares, the god of violence and war, only stop kill people when he is in the arms of Aphrodite, the god of beauty and love.

This may be a dumb question... Moonlight is a fairy type healing move, useing the moons energy to heal yourself. Umbreon: Dark type, Learns Moonlight naturally. Granted it is a moon oriented pokemon, but does that mean Umbreon has a possible connection to the Fae? and strangely enough... Noivern: A Flying/Dragon type... A dragon type learning a FAIRY move? What is that about? I understand it's kinda like a dragon/bat thing, but if that was the reason, then why not crobat? No, somthing just doesn't fit with Noivern and i can't figure it out.

It's basically them being natural light consumers, as well as moonblast kinda being similar to solar-beam. Though noctowl doesn't make sense given the nature of things... So... a few things: Fairy isn't weak to fire, fire just resists fairy. Hidden power doesn't change as you level up. Dazzling gleam is NOT a reskinned power gem - power gem hits only a single target in multiple battles and has 20 pp while dazzling gleam hits all adjacent enemies and has 10 pp.

Yes, HP changes based on IV's which don't change even if you level up to lvl100 and are defined from the moment the Pokémon spawns or an egg hatches. I don't know why he said it changes when leveling up.

And that explains why Slowking is a Psychic type: because it has studied the magic that it uses. Also why even though Abra is born Psychic, it sleeps for 18 hours a day and can only Teleport. You made 2 other mistakes as well, 1. Hidden Power doesn't change as you level up, its based on IVs which are generated upon capture/hatching and can't be manipulated once they are given (outside of bottle caps which don't actually affect hidden power); and 2. Maleficent actually raised those walls of thorns, not iron, to keep Steffan and his knights from the Mors; Steffan raised iron barbs within the castle to trap Maleficent so he could kill her. Its a small nitpick but Maleficent is one of my favorites :]

Um. Sorcerers are outlets of power, you are thinking more Wizard or Warlock- who, respectively, learn to weave it or who get it from masters who force it to their will. Also- D&D has a literal fairy dragon. It’s not a good basis for this type of thing.

I think he was going for more of an Arcane spell caster vs divine or natural. But Sorc could very well be a good line up for dragon as well because while yes they do have magic naturally they are more likely to be the more destructive arcane branches .... heck in 5th edition one of the Sorc sub classes in the PHB is the Dragonborn Sorcerer so ... that could be the type of magic user he's comparing dragon Pokemon too verses fairy who he is looking more at druids.

No, for one she's not a Djinn as Djinns are evil genies... think Jafar from Aladdin, for Two, while geinies are magical, they lean more towards dragon magic as they Warp it to their will, as opposed to redirecting the flow of Magic. (BTW I would love having Shantae in Smash, I'm just explaining why Genies don't work for Fairy month) A better option for Fairy month is Velvet Crowe from Tales of Bersaria... think of her as the equivalent to a Dark and Fairy type like Impidimp, she's half Daemon (hence the dark type), has limited magic ability, and has shown to be a caring individual (hence the fairy type)... plus with how limited "Fairy type" characters are, it's really either her, Tingle, or one of the Zelda fairies. I know who my pick is.

As some others have said, Djinns are more similar to Genies, so if you consider Genies as fae creatures then I guess it could work. It'll probably end up being Tingle, though I have heard some people suggest Lip from Panel de Pon (or Tetris Attack as it's known out here in the west), she is a fairy and her weapon is already in Smash (it's that weird flower thing that most people have no idea what it's from), not sure if a moveset could be found for her that works, but it's just a suggestion that I've heard (just to clear up confusion, Lip isn't a character that I want as playable in Smash, same with Tingle, Lip is just a suggestion that I've heard some people mention and I thought I would mention it as well).

Some other points that reinforce the nature theme of the Fairy type include the fact that there are multiple pure Fairy type Pokemon like the Flabebe and Comfey lines that have direct relationships to nature and plants, that there are several Fairy type moves that are related to plants such as Floral Healing and Flower Shield, and there's even a Fairy-exclusive ability, Flower Veil, that has special effects for just Grass types.

I can’t believe this series is finally over, definitely my favorite series of videos relating to Pokémon. Thanks for putting out so many episodes of this really niche concept. Edit: Wow, I got baited, the series isn’t actually over.

I've brought this up before on Tumblr, but the early episode of Pokemon with the scientist and an alien detector, the detector only went off when it was near what would be future fairy types ( Togepi and Clefairy). I don't necessarily think they're aliens but it is a cool link between that idea and the anime

I always thought fairies being immune to and super effective against dragons was odd because I had a very specific memory from Fairly OddParents where Cosmo and Wanda say that dragons were immune to their magic in an old episode.

in my head, Dragons are manifestations of power or raw energy...almost like their Supernatural beings that instead of casting...are living magic while fairies cast it and naturally are attuned to that manipulation but i dont like that they are immune. being resistant would have been fine.

Fun little correction! The Blue for Boys and Pink for Girls is not quite as Western as you may think, at least in its core, it is still Eastern. You are completely correct that Blue represents more feminine traits, and Pink more masculine. But in the case of Feng Shui, more specifically the use of Feng Shui in personal body garments, it is quite common to dress babies in the opposing colors to their gender, in a rather Taoist (Yin and Yang like mentioned in other recent videos) sense of evening out either the more Masculine fieriness of boys, or the more feminine passiveness of girls. The use of Pink and Blue specifically is in that grey area of Eastern culture being taken up and borrowed by Western ones, so I can't speak much on those specific colors. (Source: Chinese Medicine course I had to take in college for my degree) :)

I alway saw the distinction between the two as Dragon magic was inborn in their blood like the "dragons" of Skyrim, whereas they are effectively beings made out of raw magical energy. And Fairy type magic is also inborn, but it's a more refined magic, so basically Dragon = raw, ruthless inborn arcane ability Fairy = Raw, refined inborn arcane ability

I always thought fairy was weak to steel because of the whole hero trope. Like, for example, when I think of “hero” I always think of them getting some legendary sword or something, a piece of steel that will save the day if wielded correctly. Then I think of fairies and things helping the hero. Fairy is weak to steel because the hero wielding the steel is being aided by the fairies, hence is kind of better than them. For example, Link gets his steel, the Master Sword, and then saves the great fairies and captures some of the lesser ones in bottles for his own use later. Link helps the fairies. Idk, just my thoughts.

Nope. A weakness to Cold Iron is one of the most common traits of faeries across all portrayals. It's often outright shown _draining_ their magic or cutting them off from the outside. Even the most powerful faerie queen in the world can't do much to you with a pair of iron handcuffs on.

I missed an option to work in the Seelie and Unseelie Faries, the Seelie being more helpfum and are describes as be helpfe like summer, and the Unseeline bein more trickers, and begin as cold as winter. (Dual type Dark Fairy would so fit many of the Unseelie)
