On October 16, 1984, a 4-year-old child, Grégory, was thrown hand and foot bound into a river, in Lépanges, in the Vosges.
A mysterious anonymous correspondent then claimed responsibility for this crime committed out of revenge. The enigma would excite public opinion and unleash the media. Two interpretations would compete for the favor of journalists, failing that of justice: the assassin would be the child's uncle or the mother herself, Christine Villemin.
Ultimately, if we ignore the tragedy experienced by the parents - but can we really?
The Grégory affair will be remembered as a modern form of witchcraft trial and an exemplary case of media one-upmanship.
