Not just mtv, i was 15 then and practically lived at the arcade with my friends, i barely played games it was more of a hang out, lol, when a song was really popular it would play a lot there. This song was played every second song, it was crazy and we loved it, we’d get all hyped up for a night out.

This song was my first introduction to Faith No More. After hearing this for the first time, went out and bought The Real Thing and Introduce Yourself albums, been a huge fan ever since. It's also heard to believe that this song is going to be 33 years old in a couple of days. And it still sounds so dam amazing even now-Faith No More in a nutshell

"The Real Thing" was the first CD I ever purchased, way back in 1990, as the transition from cassette tapes was becoming more mainstream and affordable. The entire album is amazing. Much of the lesser known tracks are great, "Underwater Love" and "Woodpecker from Mars" are two of my favorites. Mike Patton has one of the most unique voices ever and has a ridiculous range. (Edit) As a teenager of the 1990's, I can tell you for sure nobody used the term "epic" back then. It's more of a 2000's term. Back then we said things were sweet, phat, wicked, or just plain old cool.

Personally, I find Mike Patton one of the most creative and versatile singers in the music industry. The man of the 1000 voices. As a teen in Greece in early 90s Real thing was epic, something so different and unique. FNM inspired so many bands, brought music to the 90s in one album, created a new fusion genre. And then had their Angel Dust, a masterpiece. Also RHCP have nothing on FNM comparing to them or Patton's many projects like Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Phantomas or his movie soundtracks. But that's just my opinion.

I fell in love with this album when it came out. But as much as I love Faith No More, the number one band for me that Patton was in will forever be Mr. Bungle. The band (that was also one of the biggest influences on Slipknot at the beginning) can be a bit hard to swallow at first, they incorporate styles like funk, jazz, death metal, techno, circus music, oriental influences and everything between often in one song. But once you get a hang of it there's no turning back.

The fish in the "Epic" video did create some controversy at the time, about whether or not the band had actually let a fish suffocate out of water while filming, and that it was a Goldfish belonging to pop singer Björk. In 2010 "Epic" video director Ralph Ziman set the record strait, debunking some of the urban legends that had cropped up over the years. Ziman came up with the idea for the flopping fish. It was not a Goldfish, nor did the fish belong to Björk, though she had light-heartedly supported the rumour. There was, in fact several of the feisty freshwater fish, which came from a pet store, that were used in the production, and that none were left out of the water for very long. After the shoot was all over, the fish were let go in the river. Strangely, the fish would actually pick up a following of its own, complete with a Facebook page.

Aerosmith & Run D.M.C. The funny thing is neither group wanted to do "Walk This Way" together. Run-DMC just wanted to sample the song and Aerosmith was at their worst in terms of drugs and completely out of it. It was all Rick Rubin's idea. Without a hell of a lot of persistence the video, and Aerosmith's resurgence, never would have happened.

Mike Patton alluded that Anthony Kiedis copied Mike's style or some shit like that. Faith No More is the better band. You're just scratching the surface on them.
