@@jareczek1980 Idk I heard Epic and Midlife Crisis a thousand more times than I heard this one on the radio back in the day. I don't think the hard rock stations knew what to think of this sound honestly lol.
I'm glad you finally got to the King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime album, probably my favorite FNM album. So many different styles on this one. Check out Absolute Zero, a B-Side, released on the remastered version in 2016.
Glad you dug it mate. Great track. This whole album is special. Different producer to the last few albums as well as a different guitarist so that may have had an effect on everything.
Great reaction! Mike Patton is amazing. I was going to see them live this summer (the first time since almost 30 years ago), but I'm pretty sure it'll be cancelled because of Covid. Greetings from Germany!
Yeah I was waiting as long as possible to request this one, I thought it would be great to see how far we've come from Epic to this, you wouldn't believe this is the same band if you didn't know it 😎 That was Trey Spruance from Mr.Bungle playing guitar, not in the video but he played on the album after Jim Martin left the band ❤️ Anyway, knew you would love this one ❤️ thank you ❤️
Love how you break music down to a science and when your breaking down a song you show a knowledge that shows you know your stuff. Keep it up man and thanks for the love for FNM; I love them and they’ve provided partial inspiration for my musical aspirations.
Thanks for doing this so soon after we requested it. This here is night and day with Epic, including the complete makeover of the lead singer. I love this funky sound from them, so smooth. I love all the little bits of colour, re the instruments, throughout the song. Very easy listening and...the lead singer is easy on my eyes 😁
So glad you got to this one and I'm totally bummed this doesn't have 20 times the views it does. This song is dope as fuck and it's just another example of how diverse the band is. Anyways, thanks for hitting this.
Great song from one of the best "chameleon" bands. So versatile. The schmoove sound on this one can also be heard on some Fun Lovin Criminals early stuff like Smoke 'Em, King of New York, Love Unlimited, We Have All The Time in the World.
Love it! Edit....yes yes yes, you are so right. My favorite Faith no more is them being this! Lounge music? Hell yes, in the best way! Always on every mix I make, it fits everywhere
One of the things you should know about Mike Patton is that he's all about the music and not being the focal point of any of the songs he does. He's all about the sound and very humble about that, but he personally is a dynamic vocalist worth listening to in all of of his projects.
I love how much you love this. I was into this in high school, and I'm just so happy it's still getting love all these years later from a new generation. Amazing musicians. If you love Mike Patton, think about checking out the project he did called Peeping Tom. Whole album is collaborations with other artists, and it's all great.
another Faith no more request, another smooth song that shows his outstanding voice:" just a man" and by the way: thanks for your intelligent and smooth reactions Jay Rah
Glad you checked this out so quick - knew you would groove on it Changing gears a bit - really hope you check out Yah Mo B There - James Ingram and Michael McDonald Well worth the time. Cool groove that also delivers a solid message
Love that you're still doing FNM. Last Cup of Sorrow and my apologies but I can't remember whether or not you had done Midlife Crisis yet if you don't mind checking them out, that would be awesome.
It's kind of mindblowing that faith no more can do this then a few tracks from this same album they make a song called Cuckoo's for Caca lol 😆 I dare you to jam to that song and compare it to this lol and it's like WTF it's very amazing how versatile and how mikes is willing to go in his music, bipolar sums up this album king for a day lol
Fun Fact: Faith No More's original guitarist left before the recording of this album. Mike Patton enlisted the help of Mr Bungle's guitarist Trey Spruance to record the album, so he's responsible for the nice guitar work on this song. (He is not the guitarist in the video though. The guitarist in the video is Dean Menta who toured with them to support the album.) Next up, try "Just A Man" from the same album. It's very gospel music inspired and shows off Mike's vocals pretty well.
Dean Menta played guitar on this song on the album as well and I think Roddy may have contributed some guitar parts as he was learning to play guitar during this time for a side project band of his. I think that is part of the reason why you see Roddy just lounging around doing next to nothing in the video.
@@neilpatrickhairless Trey has songwriting credits for this song. Dean Menta didn't participate in any of the recording of King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime, he was not a part of Faith No More until the tour for the album after Trey refused to commit to the long tour schedule.
This was the record they did with Mr. Bungle’s Jedi guitar player, Trey Spruance. One of my all time favorite records all the way through and ends with...a gospel song(Just A Man)!
Finally, bro, finally...:) Yeah, FNM in all it`s funky-metal glory...without the metal..hahah. But no, seriously, this song actually attracted a lot of attention here in Europe when it came out in `95 mostly with it`s surprisingly clear pop sound, without any underground premises you would expect from a huge alternative metal band as they were back then...So, the shocking thing was, actually , the purity of it`s sound, not any expected guitar noise or anything else. :)) But, they were known as a funky-metal band anyway, so ..the glass is a half full - there you go.:) Great display of singing abilities as well - there`s a unexpected Patton`s baritone throughout a whole song, with that wonderful "evidence"- falsetto part..:) Yo, have you noticed the keyboard strokes on that chorus, as the famous Soul II Soul did in their songs?:)) Yeah, that`s a nice stolen funky trick, like the real homage, settled in the right place... ;) Also, it took me some time, but i`ve figure it out: the exciting bass line on that chorus is exactly the same as in the George Benson`s disco-hit "Give Me The Night".:))) Yeah, still, that`s Mike Patton who sings his own stuff in here, so - this is the new song anyway.:) BTW, did you know that FNM kicked out the guitarist of their previous albums and brought the new one to play on this album?:) And by the various amount of bravely controlled and played - guitar colors - one could already guess who could that be...Not a great mystery: it was Trey Spruance from Mr.Bungle, the guitar-sound wizard by himself.:)) So, this song has these pop-blues-funky guitar colors, the others may not have that mixture - but quite harder, or even lighter, anyway, it was knowledge of guitar mastery from Mr .B, attributed directly to this album....:) You will see for yourself when you choose another song from the record - everyone has a different dominant genre.:) Ok, we`ll hope to that.:) My salute to you, greetings to Roxxane, I hope she`s a little better now, Jay, sorry to ask, is she fine? She reads this? Say hello to her, please, man...Ciao! :)
Btw J. sorry to bother, dude, I know it came up to be a huge one, but have you read my comment on Retrovertigo? Just give me a sign if you did, don`t wanna sound pretentious, but it could bring much clarity to the meaning of that song, as well as the way Mr.B. build up their songs.:) no pun intended, not in a gymnastic way, more like a spiritual and mental way.:) G, i spent some time (accidentally) in there, would`ve be a shame not to pass through it, again - it would be not much of a gymnastic effort, simply a literal one..which rise the curiosity to a new level, yet, safe one enough..;) Tnx, man, and much obliged! :)
Also, you said something that is important - Chuck Mosley served a great purpose as the frontman for Faith No More during his years but as soon as Mike became their frontman, this band went from being a great underground band to an extremely great mainstrean band with a plethora of obvious and not so obvious influences. Billy and Roddy are the blood and soul of the band but hiring Mike Patton was the greatest business decision they ever made. To think that Courtney Love was almost the replacement for Chuck Mosely (RIP)
Love your honesty and the knowledge you bring to these reactions! Most reactors seem to like everything they post - you're not afraid to say when it's not your bag - that makes it more believable when you say you do like a song. Plus, you clearly have musical experience, and it comes through in your reactions. You're doing a great job - I love the way you break your reactions down. That being said, and I said it on a previous FNM reaction, but check out "Just a Man" from this same album. It's probably my second favorite FNM song, behind The Real Thing. I think you'll dig it!
Oooooo! And for another angle on Patton would love to see you react to his and Rahzel's beatboxing live performance covering the song Pony by Ginuwine!!
Breaking the jazz out, huh. Damn, i didn't they had this much diversity. Have you heard an entire album yet? Have they done this since they started (having different styles every album) or have they changed it up album to album? Im interested to find this out. I might blind purchase FNM vinyls if its gonna be a potpourri. Ryan Adams was all over the style map when he left Whiskeytown, who was on the forefront of the alt country boom of the mid-late 90s. Good stuff homie. You keep pickin bangers.
King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime is probably their most diverse number of styles. Rock, jazz ,punk and metal all on one album. Tbh all their album are different from each other. Angel Dust sounds like it could've been released yesterday even though it's almost 30 years old. That album influenced so many subsequent bands. In fact Kerrang magazine voted Angel Dust the most influential rock album of all time. The Real Thing is the album put them In the spotlight though. The title track is an absolute masterpiece.
The entire 5th album, King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime is great check into other tracks from it. The bass and drums are featured pretty dominatly on this album, partly due to some drama behind the scenes. This album was their first album without lead guitarist Jim Martin. Jim was fired before this album started production. The keyboardist Roddy Bottom was gone during most of the recording, both physically and mentally, as he was struggling from the recent death of his father and of the death of his close friend Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. His depression and stress from both events led him to a struggle with heroin during this time.
About production, FNM have their own label Ipicap, they’re their own producers, and they play this shit live with not one error. So it’s not polished and tweaked like that in a mixer alone. These guys are just epically talented.
I love that you love FNM. My all time favorite band. They're like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get, but it's always sooooooo good. ❤️
It seems like New Orleans in the 1930s at night. Crossroads maybe. For this 1995 album, It's different a lot. I guess "Ricochet" is one of the best on it, but I won't suggest "Cuckoo for Caca" haha...
And yes they can go from tihis to ugly in the morning it’s one of the greatest bands that ever lived …. And test peeping Tom one of his other bands only one album ands it a bunch of collbas
This video reminded me of something from years ago. You should check out Molotov Jukebox. The actress who played Osha on Game of Thrones is the singer. Pretty avant-garde type shit, you might dig it. Maybe not. I dunno.

I love the video for this song, but the album version is far superior! Btw, there is a Spanish, Portuguese and Italian version of Evidence and he would sing the appropriate version according to the country he was in, when on the road.
You haven't dived into the heavy part of faith no more yet jam to Jizzlobber or Malpratice or Cuckoo for caca lol that's the heavy metal side of them lol or ugly in the morning is less aggressive but still metal rock lol
