I was the production designer on this music video. I believe the company at the time was Palomar Pictures. Directed by Joseph Kahn and shot entirely in San Francisco. On locations and sets built in one of the Pier buildings. Was a crazy fun filled shoot.

The whole video is a tribute to/parody of the 1958 Hitchcock-directed movie "Vertigo". Singer Mike Patton plays the role played by Jimmy Stewart in the movie, and actress Jennifer Jason-Leigh plays the role(s) played by Kim Novak in the movie. A couple of the same San Francisco locations from the movie, such as the Brocklebank Apartments, Palace of Fine Arts, or Fort Point (in the Presidio right under the south end of the Golden Gate bridge) are also used in this video. Other scenes from the movie are referenced/duplicated on sets.

Always loved Mike Bordin's dramatically decisive chomp of bagel at the end :) .

I love how one of the greatest alt metal bands of all time makes an amazing music video based on one of the greatest Alfred Hitchcock movies (vertigo btw) for one of FNM's best songs. Classic.

Not gonna lie, this video and song STILL hold up to this day. Love it after years of seeing it. And that makes me happy......plus, I mean c'mon Jennifer Jason Leigh as a cameo, how badass.

I saw Faith No More 'by accident' while working at a Music Festival back in the early 2000s and I've been an avid fan ever since.

We need these 90s bands to keep coming back around for the sake of great music.... rock n roll must never die.... Tool, Alice In Chains, Faith No More, etc.... great decade... fine give FNM to 80s if u wish i but they had a 90s style before the decade even started

The music video, directed by Joseph Kahn, is based on Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, a film dealing with acrophobia. Shooting occurred during 1997 in San Francisco, California. It features the lead singer, Mike Patton dressed in the same outfit as James Stewart's character, trailing a blonde played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, respectively dressed the same as Vertigo 's female lead Madeleine. Many scenes are recreated from the film, such as the opening rooftop sequence, Madeleine's plunge into San Francisco bay, Mike moving up and down a stepladder, the belltower sequence complete with the famous Hitchcock Zoom and the psychedelic dream sequence.

Fun fact: The singer Mike Patton performed the creature vocalizations for the Special Infected in Left4Dead (Hunter, Smoker, and Boomer), the vampire creatures in "I Am Legend", and was the voice of The Darkness in both games.
