Gday
This video is a long one, we take a look at the Fake Makita brushless Grinders that are out there on sites like eBay, wish, bang good and all the other dropshipping harbours.
I know @AvE has already looked at the Fake Makita Driver that is out there for sale. So if you want to see a more knowledgeable take on these tools check it out here -
• BOLTR: Fake Makita Driver
But i could not help myself when i came across this knock off 18v Makita Brushless grinder. I had purchase one and give it a go.
Compared to my old Brushed 18 volt grinder it actually holds up really well. The tool is well balanced and the outer construction is pretty strong/sturdy. I was particularly taken back by the feel and the construction of the mould for the grinder. A Lot of work and money has been put into this theft/Forgery
The thing that holds me back giving this a good review as a cheap money saving tool is that morally its wrong. There is none of the money made from this tool going back into Makita's design team. The tool has no safety features built in to protect your batteries from overheating/under-voltage.
But it is interesting and it puts pressure on some of these "pro" gamer tool manufactures to step up the game to compete with the knock off. You need to know your getting a decent product if your going to spend 300 instead of 60
As always thanks for watching

I don't think it is accurate to call these a knock off or a fake unless they are the same shape as the original and branded. They are an unbranded tool that can accept a Makita battery, nothing more. If as some have commented, battery form was standardised the competition would certainly drop prices from the monopoly manufacturers. Good honest review overall, thanks Finn.

It's better to get your angle grinder on lower speed when you're wire brushing with it. Less danger and your wirebrush lasts a lot longer.

High end grinder has speed controller. I use two grinders, one for cutting metals concrete and shits, one for cutting tiles
@MrPabsUk
@MrPabsUk 3 года назад
The multi-speed option is handy for polishing, if you`re using a Farecla type mop head on it, say, to compound a car, so you don't burn the paint... What I`ve found with some cheap grinders with speed control, is that on low speeds, they seem to actively burn, both the switches & the motors. I`d have been tempted to put more decent quality grease in the gears too, as that's likely to be the weak spot mechanically.

Every grinder needs a speed selector. When polishing, sanding, even when making delicate cuts to tiles and stones you want to be able to control the rpms or you will overheat, chip or dig into whatever you're triyng to cut/sand/polish.

The thing about cheap chinese knock offs is that they are only as cheap as the company who requested them to be made asked for. China is already making most of the high end brands anyways. I have an ebay search that notifies me every day about these knockoffs because I am looking for a specific tool, so far all they are making are drills, impact wrenches, leaf blowers, and grinders.
@Finntheweekendwarrior
@Finntheweekendwarrior 3 года назад
The leaf blower would be the exact same parts too, just pay for a the mould and they are off!
@ObsessionoftheMonth

@@Finntheweekendwarrior further researching shows that they make a saber saw, rotary hammer drill, 4 inch circular saw, and sawzall. oddly it's not the same for other brands, I found only 1/4" impact driver knock offs for dewalt and ryobi. Nothing for milwaukee, bosch, ridgid etc. Though give them a chance I'm sure some will show up.
@Finntheweekendwarrior
@Finntheweekendwarrior 3 года назад
It must be the cost of moulds that is holding then back slapping some red plastic in and making for Milwaukee, Either that or they done there research and Makita owners are the most likely to go fake. Hitachi owners seem like they would be a good market to target.

The makita jobsite radio’s used to be a standard addition to everyone on site, small portable and everyone agreed on a station and you could walk anywhere and there would be music, since Bluetooth speakers came cheap the makita’s are pointless. the Bluetooth chip in them has no range and the Bluetooth signal seems to not run thought the same amp as radio and comes out at half the volume. How much does it cost to make a Makita tool if it's the same as the knock off then Makita are the rip-offs the mark up is some times 60%
@MinkieWinkle
@MinkieWinkle 3 года назад
Makita also have to pay for the research and development of tools, Rip off manufacturers do not, they will just buy a real one, reverse engineer it then mass produce. I mean ,don't get me wrong, no doubt there is a mark up of sorts. that is painfully obvious because they do not want interchangeable batteries across brands, the added competition would tank the price of batteries. so they will never allow it. my point is, Makita will spend a lot more in producing the tool in the first place, and will claw that back where ever they can, either with the tools or batteries

I don't know if I would like to be called a rippoff designer as a Chinese engineer if I have to work for a firm that produces in China and probably does a lot of its engineering there took ;-) Every toy car is brushles now a days, how long do we have the anglegrinder now on betteries? Ah yes and the proprietary battery connectors... This is a good sidearm if you already have makita battery and want a angle grinder just once in while for light duty, it makes me buy makita as there are more tools available and even for cheap sometimes. So for marketing and popularity these knock offs help makita more, even more when they break

If had a basic fine adjust could tune it. Makita losing quality each year on. Have a blue AEG 14.4 drill still running original batteries and it's 10 + years old. Maybe more.

? Makita sold out when they started to produce in China. Nothing justifies the price they charge, not even development of tools when other good tools are also very good and pretty good on price to performance ratio. Then as a end user the battery connector proprietary is just marketing bullshit in the year 2010++ our phones share USB charge so nwhy not share then this sub par tool is just an addon

bruv this is the most legit knok off i've ever seen and u were (past i know i m not the first to say this ^^) an idiot for thinking grinders don't need speed select ur gonna overspin and brake a disk in ur own face if you don't take tha time to read the marking on disk and just go full speed erry time! start slower than marking and then work ur way up as you wear it down that's how it's supposed to be done, hopefully you don't have to learn this the common way... breaking disks until a guy at the hospital explains this to you.

While making an exact copy of a Makita is theft, I feel like I should be able to buy tools (not made by Makita) that will use my Makita batteries. Is that theft? I don't know. But I love being able to buy something for cheap knowing I'm only going to use it once or twice a year and I didn't have to invest in a quality tool that a pro would need, and I didn't have to buy new batteries for it. Someone needs to make tools like this. While I have no desire to support the CCP, I also don't support gouging the common consumer. They've made things very difficult for us.
