Another really good video Ben. I'd like to see a video on falcon hybrids. The goods and bads, certain crosses and how they benefit from one another. Example, why is the Gyr/Peregrin such a popular cross in falconry and why would someone opt for a Gyr/Saker or Gyr/Prairie instead. As well as any other points that you feel are important. Keep up the great videos.

KVFPolice do you know why the government destroyed and/or made sure the peregrine/prairie offspring didn’t reproduce in the wild ?

Great assessment Ben. The best thing I was told when learning about them was," A prairie can live on a fart." I have always thought their reason for such hard hitting came from their lack of opportunities to feed themselves in the desert. The ones that hit hard became the progenitors of the species.

Jeffrey Bertch that makes a ton of sense! I think there is a lot of merit to that idea

That, and their habit of feeding heavily on toothy ground squirrels in much of their range. They need to hit such ground quarry hard, so that it doesn't fight back or escape down its burrow.

Hey Ben great video! I am working with my first prairie, a passage tiercel. Your comment about the weight is spot on. After flying passage merlins for over ten years I was amazed how sensitive this bird is to weight fluctuations.
@benwoodrufffalconry
@benwoodrufffalconry Год назад
It can be maddening can’t it? Such precision and if you are off, you think you have lost your touch and have no idea what you are doing. When in truth it is just the need for precision weight management with a frustratingly small window of spot on weight.

Excellent and informative video. I live in Colorado Springs and saw a Prairie Falcon today out east in the plains. I am a birder. The Prairie Falcon was flying around and calling. I think he/she was upset. Maybe there was a nest around, but I doubt it this time of year. I would love to learn more about Falconry.

Hi again Ben. just a quick question. how do you transport these birds? if I live in Japan or Siberia for example then I wish to buy a bird from a breeder in Alaska. what are generally the paperwork and mode of transport for this? thanks and have a nice day. kind regards, EJ
@benwoodrufffalconry
@benwoodrufffalconry 4 года назад
Elric John Limuaco I am not familiar with the import process between countries leaving the US. I would definitely contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service for details on permitting on the USA side of things. I have never imported from another country myself, but as I understand it, many countries require a period of quarantine for any birds coming in to a new country, which can be quite an involved process. So I would check with your countries laws and then also contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service to get all the details.
@jantirpak7902
@jantirpak7902 4 года назад
Hello Eric John Limuaco. As far as I know, the breeder from whom you are buying a predator (country of export) must have an export license from the US Fish and Wildlife Service (for the US) for the country of import. And in the country in which you live and you will have a predator (country of import), so you need permission for the house from the local Environmental Protection Agency. The veterinary service in the country of import shall determine the necessary medical examinations (or vaccinations) and the period of quarantine. The usual quarantine is 28 days, but some countries do not require it. The problem is with whom you leave the predator in quarantine to meet the quarantine conditions and was taken care of according to higher ideas. If you don't have a predator, the veterinary service can give you permission to quarantine with you. Transport such a distance is done by air. It is necessary to check with the airline whether it transports animals. (some do not do this or just with your companion and the tent box conditions). From the airport to you or to quarantine a transport company with the necessary authorization, if necessary in the country of importation or yourself. The bird of prey must be unmistakably marked (an indivisible ring or chip) and the proof of some countries requires CITES. That is about everything briefly. It is simple?
@elricjohnlimuaco4502
@elricjohnlimuaco4502 4 года назад
Hello ben and jan. Thank you for the info. Yes, it is simple yet very complex. Will keep that in mind though. Thank you so much! = )
@jantirpak7902
@jantirpak7902 4 года назад
@@elricjohnlimuaco4502 Here's how: 1. Let the Breder from the country of export write to you if he is authorized to export to your country and send a scan of the document from the predator. With a scan document to the Environmental Protection Office in the country of import and request consent to import. 2. Have the Veterinary Service write to you the veterinary import and quarantine conditions, or consent to quarantine at your home. Send veterinary conditions to breder. 3. Arrange with the breder air transport from and to where. 4. Conditions of the airline for the transport of animals and send to the breder. 5. Arrange transportation from the airport to your home. and at the end I wish you many nice moments with breeding a new predator.

Wikipedia “falconry” entry blames falconers for losing their birds in non native places like Harris’s in Britain and that in Utah captive bred Prairie falcon accidentally got out and bred with wild Peregrine because it was fostered by a peregrines.The whole falconry entry needs editing! I feel is bias :(

@LordDaymien 3 года назад
Wikipedia isn't the best place you want to use as a source. The problem with this argument is you'd have to have receptive wild birds to pair off with. These other wild birds are extremely unlikely to be parent reared by a hybridized pair.

I'm not one to argue but in this country they say there's only one kestrel i disagree i think there's two i think merlin is the second kestrel since i'm stretching myself out i think prairie falcons is the third kestrel which you can deny because they don't have the sexual dimorphism maryland's have sexual dimorphinism and their little they don't hover they probably could and like european kestrels common kestrels they have sex with him orphanism and they hover so there's levels of that but i think they're in the same family and i believe they're linked together from karma i believe in evolution tabular frog and i think when you die it works itself out the process with humans is different than animals and i believe in complacency and i live that way with that belief and i believe there's life before earth and earth will grow and develop and finish growing and if you're alive you've been alive forever there's no beginning an end to that with that belief i believe perry falcons merlin's and a kestrels are all linked together from foreverness and i believe for original sucks are the third eagle and i think these classifications are impossible because of competitiveness of classifications for different reasons from biology from books and i'm not asking people to rearrange their knowledge or believe in what i do but to me freaking socks are the third eagle does that mean golden eagles are like something that i claim not at all for different reasons some golden eagles don't have a problem with me they do make your hair suck hybrid which is a large harris hawk and i believe the earth and egg and things are evolving it and everyone has eternal life and everyone's earning wings and things of that nature but everyone lives forever and everyone's trying to self improve i don't think people pass things on to the next generation i think they're selfish and they pass things on to themselves and you reincarnate into yourself and that refreshes with the turks not so if you have a better threshold for that type of thinking that isn't possible for a lot of other people for things the earth does to people's way more comfortable to accept this final because that's what it looks like and you got to stretch your ass bibles and teachings like that are hiding places from the truth that smothers you or hiding place from the sky okay and discomfort to not enjoying a meal not enjoying certain things it's harder can be done and i don't expect people to live in discomfort to agree with me nor do i violate people's right to passage or take away their moment of clarity with oh my god life goes on forever and i've been worried for nothing everyone has a different ride of passage and reasons why they think so and they're pretty healthy and don't seem too worried about things and i place the the frog hawk eagle and the harris hawks are linked together from reasons that i've discovered on a personal study and that makes sense to me and i don't have a job or a book written you know when i see other people's point of views and that's what works for you and i don't have a problem with it i'm going to write a book called a thugs manual that mentions falcon throughout it the sport it's basically a book on how to be graffiti artist that some people might find interesting or not even bother reading i own a publishing company i really do and like i can write a book and i don't have it in me to write another book about jess's or equipment or basic manning so like that ᝰ that's been done and said i can offer opinions you find out we already know and then you're just a weird person that can't be around normal people you know i can go to sinners and i can go to falconer centers and if you need to think that bridge miss hawk is a booty-o the largest video you like lantern falcons and they've done some for union like the eye of horus in egypt things like that then that's impressive to me as well but if you get rubbed wrong by them type of people are you still going to like leonard falcons they're impressive they're pretty and they're top to food chain and all that egyptian stuff interesting i'll believe that have a religion label are true and the same thing okay people don't like me why because i'm a punk even today i got the prairie falcon i needed to pay pee i had k kestrel and i got the you you know from the frog hawk eagle punk link invent breakdown simplicity to complicatedness and that's how i did and i'll link these birds in a group that holds water and makes sense i don't know how many other people do that and you can try make sense to say i survived this way and it's got me amuse a house in a couple cars against all odds in a bible belt or mormon temple was constructed okay and i have my reasons why i think life's eternal that i don't share with other people and i will meet you instead of telling you weird s*** i've been through we can make a new experience together and people are good for you and you that happened i believe you good for you you're like jesus never mind that s*** we'll get together dude and we'll make a new experience and stuff and i'll have you a believer and i'll be with some weird s*** probably and i'll just reinforce what you already know so i don't like expect people to appreciate things i've been through and i took the food chain birds i think about that everyday i have a harris hawk i use falcon for what it's for and i am somewhat of a biologist orthanologist birdwatcher and i survive learning secrets that no one cares about that are deadly i can confirm what you already know and you're going with that that's what works in your psyche your game that's you sitting in your favorite chair and you have a formula going awesome use it and i'll put birds in my categories and reasons why they have different colors and their role in nature and went the earth is and i'm not going to get all offended and crazy and s*** if you think the fridge is hot has been missed categorize so you say is it a hawk or an eagle and you think f hawk is it really an eagle and you keep saying that until you think hawk eagle and then it's not misclassified or something's probably are it's incomplete i don't think you're reading cue cards i think you're an educator and you're intelligent and you're done your homework and you're a book writer and you want to be a falconer forever at a bird show and that i got in trouble they blamed me for it being there and yellowstone park they had a sacred falcon that lower fired outside of prairie falcon they ended up went up to a spec and dive and hit a lower a hit the lower and knock the chicken bone in half there was a sacred falcon there and at lure flight nicely a lantern falcon i think it wasn't a saker pretty sure it was a lantern i'm not sure that torpedoed low to the ground it was a desert falcon and i came with his lantern or lugger i'm pretty sure the lantern and a falcon you like lantern falcons i don't know if it by the sacred falcon is yours you feel strong about atlanta falcons you find it it's yours

They say the pergrine falcon is the fastest bird on the planet the prarie is faster than prarie not compleatley true the prarie falcon is faster than sub species like antum tundra but the peals pergrine mantains fastest it's weight and wing is the 240 miles hours than you the 200 hundred miles an hour that's antum ok and prarie is about to 220 and peals pergrine reaches the 240 miles an it's biggest and alout people that don't like the peals claim nasty to hard to work with becuse it's meaner peals is connected to Harris hawks I'm sure the exsact reason and the gos and Harris compitive world people like the antum pergrin and dislike the peals the american kestrel also connected to peals and that your thing thats going on.

Ok pergrines are the fastest bird in the world becuse there not to big and not to small and prairie falcons are the same but wings are slightly less long and think that a compitive edge to be faster the fact life that to much of something causes a effect of not enough enough like to calsuim in your deit can make for weak bones ok so long wings is speed like sooty falcon to long and is slow ok sooty means in brittan slang black person and Tracy averie I was turned sooty and my ideinty was given to a berrnet named Buckner just to block I can't black and that scared the other kids like you rebirth in California a black person you i resemble Ice cube ok I passed that test at everie was sooty falcon in mews in the back and I was talked about how ausome it is and how it's sevrole shades of grey and i sent to Nashville sooty I look up steave Buckner and on face book on his page his favright hobby was to eat at basken Robens Ice cream ok so his was just a falconer to block I'm huspanic Falco mexiconus has some to do with it my falcon antum pergrine steave chindrens I volteered at the averie and walked in on steave with melanistic red tail and it started lungeing at me named captin and steave was pist he said this bird hates dark cimolicated people and this hawk would be alover you the red tail was put in a box high in tree and opened and the first bird show i seen it sat there and screamed and steave exsolained that his territorial call then instead of flying down to him it flys strait over the the bird show building over the bold eagle building ok and you look at and stoop from the tree strait down and disaoears behind the building leaveing to your amaginatiin what Just happens on the red tail can since that your future falconer and it's trained to do that than steave later says it knocked the bold eagle off the nest and national bird is knocked off you then later you go to show again and the this time comes out the box and rakes the ground and you sprung on that red tail for your first apreintice bird and you want a dark phase red tail and then exsbits there dark phase swasions hawks with no bib and the golden eagle is cooler nexst to the bold eagle exsibet and that further knocks out of the goverment ok then there's a rumor some one broke in and tore apart a golden eagle ok and you want a Sponcer so bad you rake leaves ok and the red tail raked the ground ok then he says later it might get you discount on pergrine in begining of the bird show a Harris comes from the side around to back a fly by right then fuck the red tail that's the bird I want and the bird I have now ok then at the end they show massive golden eagle and your fly across the bird show and land and that suppost to make you forget about the Harris hawk and when your trapping darkers better from the red tail ok and you got you and this done to connected delinquents in Utah it's test and if you pass it you get to be master falconer forever in Utah and your sent sooty to tenesee to fight in holy war based on Mormonism it's war look bill Clinton d Monica Lewinsky that captian millistic red tail knocking a bold eagle off the nest ok I got base from hip hop descises and it's goverment test and I passed it the building are down alout stuff ok the hardest part is holding on to memories when family and friends are trying to rob you becuse your makeing money and things are working out for staying the same with your mental health being attacked and envy and remembering things you need to rember that life is meaningful and one time Peroid when there life's are pointless haveing no freinds or family but it will pay off and the path is clear but it's dispointing this gonna pay off and luck is gone and family is useless they getting old and bitter and out radged there life's is pointless they can't think out side the box and there jelouse to the point there useless and they are not happy about the conspiracy and they try to there best to lie to make bad things happen to me and it's hard but it will pay off thug life injoy your phones.

That's a missing falcon in yellowstone park i think jackson hole there was a hotel and they had a field that they corralled cows and did a bird so there do name dixon from centerville utah got in trouble cuz he had all these falcons in his yard and they pinned it on me and i'm barely an apprentice and i got in trouble for it and they they didn't find and there were several falcons peregrine harris hawk red tail and secret falcon atlanta falcon is one of my tidbits in life that's so my bird show fly other people's birds that's my bird show there is a few hybrids there some sort of hybrid with a cheerful i'm not sure silver there wasn't a white one a dude from europe was there and the white girls bringing him beer and he said something about being a f*** the jerry falcon went on a roof when it come down heeled hoe when it came dow the prairie falcon went up to a spec not straight down on angle and it came in and it raked around sight and hit that was disturbed show the sacred falcon then impressive and he'll put it by your head you can take a picture of a sacred falcon flying right to you okay and it's a bird too the dude doing it when i was his i was about 15 years old claimed he was a boxer from boxing camp he had features and what he would do he'd take a bird and he put your head down and he'd make the bird bait the flap its wings and he told people the bird's petting you stuff like that and he'd walk around town my dad is playing in his band there there's falconers walking inviting people to a bird show that's how i met him i hung out with him his ex-wife came for with divorce papers we went to see a movie jurassic park later i seen my new type of galleria with his kids again i sat down like we were in jackson whole. The school was going to give me credit if i go back to that bird show and work high school credit and i sat down with them and i was dressed i car dressed in utah at the time i said bye to the dude i don't even remember his name cuz he never told me and i hung out with them early in the morning and hang out with him for a day or two and i took money why people came to the bird show and a horse was behind us at farted real loud and a dude said wow that was loud i was buying a ticket to the bird show he said you can make equipment you can do this at a cool airplane with the head of spray with a spray s*** and they had a you know hoods and stuff they make a genghis khan story about straw people with meat on their eyes okay in jackson hole starting to thunder and your hair would stand up from electric in the air from thunderstorms i hopped over the fence to do something and he asked me is your right hand in your left hand just as coordinated okay tough kid falconer so if i can box and i said yes he had features where you could punch him and it they wouldn't cut he told me a story that he would take his daughter out or not in the back and in a back thing and run around peregrine i'll never meet him again i doubt it and the people i mean in life i briefly meet them and i never know if they're lying or there's any truth in it and i have to send their lying until for some reason they ain't they tell me what they want me to think of them you never know when someone's lying in one thing i've learned in life when you know you're on a path and it's not steady stable people lie a lot and that's just what they want you to think and i think it and i think people are liars because they are but it's still learning experience that dude's probably never work in a boxing camp is probably a fantasy and he'll take a bird and like put your head by it and then move his glove so it pats you on the head and it sounded like a horrible lie and he knew how to lower fly a sacred falcon he knew how to let a prairie falcon hit a lure anything yellowstone park and i went to the gallery and see him he's from utah and that's the end
