For biologists, bird banders and falconers, finding a prairie falcon nest can be difficult without help. This video offers tips and techniques to help find nesting prairie falcons in the wild.
I highly doubt I have the time to pursue falconry, although learning about it has always fascinated me. We have a young-looking prairie falcon who has decided our patio overlooking a farmer's field is it's new morning hangout, so I'm out looking up info on them out of sheer curiosity.
scott dinger with the virus, it may be May or June before I can get a more in depth eagle training video up. Keep reminding me and I’ll definitely get to it 👍👍👍
Andre Maines I have had many apprentices over the years. It used to be the Internet was not available and so it really was like learning a trade or a craft like blacksmithing. Apprentices respected the experience and opinions of their sponsor and the sponsor took very seriously helping their apprentice have success and learn. In more recent years, I have noticed that many apprentices don’t really listen to their sponsors much. They care much more about opinions of their peers on online falconry groups. This is actually one reason why I started making these videos. I wanted to try to get some solid information out online to help as many new apprentices as possible.
@@williampinchers meaning black & white gyrs ! Overated i think unless you have the right country and game . And who realy flys there 10,000 $ gyr on geese or Hare ? Iam in BC canada right now , and most of the province exept for the dessert or tundra is thick bush . Goshawk or Coopers first choice, if wanting to bag game - most long wingers fly duck ponds here , if they have a Farmers Fields to do so - very dangerous here to fly longwings because of all the Bald Eagles waiting for there chance to kill the Falcon and take the Duck . The value of a good Dog to guard the Falcon is important , Eagle and Redtails - Coywolf all just ready to pounce on the Falcon on Prey - ! I seen the same in Thailand with the water Monitors they where watching the Goshawks in the Air i guess at first they are prey when small ! But once 2 meters they become a real danger for the Falconers Hawk . When money comes into play with Animals. - People only care about value and not the Art of Falconry - or the wellbeing of the species . I been around some Great falconers and can say i know Frank BEEBE or Claus Fenceloff - Josef Hiebler - but i got more good training from unknown humble Masters like Lothar Askani and Frank Schauman . I will leave the island of vancouver sometime in the near future - thinking of moving into the canadian Dessert - maybe i will Fly my first Prarie . Falconers greetings .
@@markusbuelow7871 hi mate yes I agree with most you say, we have a few prairies in Uk but limited bloodlines so I’m going for a peregrine x praire hybrid. Bred a few birds myself but only ever single clutches and always parent reared. Atm I’m flying a 7/8 gyr x saker home bred. Gave up breeding in 2019 after 11 good years and to be honest glad to be just a falconer again. Soon to enter my 45 season. Are you on Instagram or fb.
Ben, very good information. I'm in Montana and working on getting back in to falconry. 40 years ago I had birds and getting ready to retire. Want to have a falcon in a few years. Know much about Montana birds? Just curious? Thanks for the excellent work. Could you post a video on your mews and maybe a good link for building a mew?
gregory h I do know a Martin Tyner in Cedar City Utah. He is a long time falconer. We live quite far from each other so we only see each other every few years. But I definitely know him 👍👍👍
