I'm originally from Larkhall in South Lanarkshire, but moved to Glenrothes in the early 80s because of my dad's work. We later returned to Larkhall, but this area is very familiar to me as I used to walk up there regularly with my mates. Great video which has brought me back a lot of memories, thank you.
I stayed in Kirkcaldy for 24 years (1980 - 2004) and did venture into the depths of Glenrothes on occasions, and as you rightly commented at the beginning, every where is spread out. So I can understand the comment that Leslie is to far to walk. PS : You can drive almost to the top of the East Lomond Falkland Hill from just before entering Falkland. Perhaps that's why the map shows as a viewpoint (13:26). The reason that there's a road up is that there's a communications pylon there.
We were in Falkland last year. Very chraming place. Form there, a nice chap told us to see Culross if we wanted to visit a similar old town. It brings a tear to my eyes when i see this.
Yeh, they're both stunning villages. Hard to imagine any place nicer. As I stood beside an old inn in Falkland the sound of traditional Scottish music on an accordion drifted out of the door and I felt that I might just stay forever. One of those places.
Ever been to Moffat? Me and my wife are staying 2 days there in a couple of weeks. I'm planning my personal day to do a walk in Grey Mares Tail. Perhaps we could meet up!
That's a fair walk. You've got to figure out how you're going to get back to civilisation. I did the Southern Upland Way, in two stages, many years ago and was in Moffat as a part of that. I think I stayed in the Tibbie Shiels Inn, which sits on that long-distance route beyond the Grey Mare's Tail. Memory of slipping when climbing a fence and coming to grief on barbed-wire. Nice place, but a little too far for a day out for me. Whatever the weather, you'll enjoy it.
We have a car (hire). While my wife goes on her own little expedition through Moffat and explore various stores, I will drive over to the car park in Grey Mares and walk from there to Loch Skeen. I expect about a 4 hour round trip. That's my plan for the 8th of September. Interested?
now don't quote me on this one Eddie.... but I think the odd placement of the trig point might be that that was the sight of the iron age settlement... just my guess thou! ( btw - welcome to my local stomping grounds... so many great walks in the area )
Great stuff again, thanks. But what is the UFO (small round-looking white thing) moving in the sky just after you come through the gate, at about 8.18 mins, right near top of the screen for a few seconds? Also appears in the same place in the shot immediately following.
Many thanks. On top of the hill I realised I must be near an airfield. Small planes were swooping all over the shop. I suspect what you saw was a hang-glider.
