Frieren and Apothecary Diary is basically my peaceful adventure this season, two anime about basically daily problem while the bigger problem unfolding slowly in the background, Watching Frieren reminiscing her past adventure while having a new one combined with Mao Mao solving various sometimes weird problem and mystery as well as navigating through rigid social barrier and stay out of trouble (although pointless) is really engaging, Both of them provides balanced slow daily life stuffs and heavy plot unfolding in a way that's really engaging and intriguing. Guess I'm set all the way to New Year since both of them have 20+ episodes
I honestly need this series because I don't think anyone is able to keep up with every anime these days. Thank You Garnt for your sacrifices, truly you are the greatest among us.
9:15 Apothecary Diaries went harder than I thought. Felt like a Doctor + Sherlock anime with a great female MC + an interesting romance dynamic I also never felt as interested in politics in anime until I read the LNs
It's typical crazy organization shit, that every seasons there's always a slot for it I think ppl just gonna be blinded with more isekai and fantasy show instead of that one, that's why it's one of the underrated anime of the season
Actually liking a harem like 100 girlfriends is a really surprise for me this season. The show is aware for it's ridiculousness and not afraid to turn it up like Eminence or Gintama.
@@alittleofsomething Oh yeah, there's a few who are gonna be 100% controversial, but the story doesn't care, and after a while you just need to accept them, funny enough the 6th GF got redeemed.
I like it I read the manga up until I couldn't remember all the girlfriends names properly. It's weird because the mangaka attempts to give EVERY GIRLFRIEND SCREENTIME. My head hurts too much to read it but watching it will be fun
Gotta love the Summoning Salts reference at the end. Can't wait for Matt Turk to break that record. This season really has tons and tons of shows to watch. Grateful that Garnt goes to the trouble of making these videos as it allows a show that I skimmed over to get a second chance, but it's also fun to see shows that he's made videos about before, Frieren and Shadow, getting another spotlight and seeing the man happy about them. May it distract him from whatever animal anime comes next...
As someone who has read the Manga for Frieren, omg they couldn't have done any better of adapting it. Everything from the absolutely gorgeous animation, to the cast and overall story. Frieren is an easy 10/10 and it isn't even debatable imo
agree, manga was so good already. i have doubt about the anime, since the story is slow and not much battle going on. but damn, the production quality is top notch, blew me out.
@@xValsionYou say you've read the manga but are complaining about no battles in the anime? Makes me wonder if you've actually read the manga at all, because it's not what I'd call "action packed."
The thing about Undead Unluck as a manga reader is that it hasn’t even really begun exploring the most interesting aspects of its world and power system yet in the anime
Glad Undead Unluck got the shout out it deserved. I can't even watch the show (legally) in Thailand because of 'Hulu', but the manga really offers one of the most creative and genre-bending stories in recent years while keeping a fun tone. I just really, really hope it will be legally accessible worldwide soon.
Glad Gigguk put Sousou no Frieren as the biggest on the thumbnail, I know a lot of people are watching it already but it deserves more views imo. Basically a mixture of Kino’s Journey with some Mushoku Tensei elements blended into it! ❤
Dude, how is gigguk so good at making videos. I literally didn't even notice the 20 minutes slip away. And that editing with the speedrun at the end HILARIOUS. Shoutout to the other editors as well, ya'll doing some great work.
I'm glad 16bit Sensation got a mention because I'm really really loving it, especially as a VN fan. Konoha's outraged scream at Kanon and Sengoku Rance priced 100 JPY at the shop was like "she's just like me fr fr." VNs deserves some more respect, Konoha's right in how influential they are. Maybe with the time travel mechanics they can get to Minori which is INSANELY influential being one of the dominoes in both Chinese gachage and Makoto Shinkai's career.
I personally hate the ayaya Voice acting, those high pitched voices are personally Just Not for me, even If I am Sure that she is doing a fantastic Job.
They are also, in my opinion, the best possible medium to learn Japanese. You get text, pronunciations that you can play over and over, native-oriented storytelling and lots of idiomatic expressions. Also, the art is gorgeous in some of them!
My english is terrible btw im not a writer just an Isekai idea (no magic or it can be just read the last idea I thought) (Before isekaied) First it show his life growing up in technological era.his life goes like this he grow up with loving family taking care of him.loved by everyone goes through a lot of struggle and hardship.he grow up to be father he love is his family, life and he want to see them grow he is happy.... Until one day he died cause of laboratory accident killing him.his though process when he is dieing he feel sad, scared, worried and angry because of his happy life is ending without seeing his family son wife daughter growing up like their first day at school, college, graduation, marriage and their life happy (He died) At this part he see a vision seeing some light first he thought he is alive feeling happy until he try to move his hand normally but it feel to weird the he saw that his hand is small with his blurry vision then he try to touch his face he feel the touch from his face and hand later realizing that when the accident happened his hand is dicapitated with the current technology they aren't able to create such and organic hand with sensory feel(note:idk if we r able to do this in era)then he try to talk but unable to do so.he starting to feel scared, anxious and heart beating fast he realize he is a baby knowing this he thought it is reincarnation at this moment he is completely feel scared and shock because he is unaware of this new world going to offer plus with the memory of his past life he hate the idea of reincarnation with past memory because it feel torturing to him bcuz his life was perfect he didn't want to start a new life Synopsis:reincarnated in (any era u think this story fit my thought was like time when technology is consider some kind of witchery to make the mc have development since he love tech but maybe in this world people have different opinions) he going through another world of life questioning his life in the past and right now overcoming his depression wether he want to accept this new life. Im thinking that he have endless reincarnation maybe for future arc feeling lifeless that it never ending of this cruel soul reincarnation with different shape or form of life maybe the story goes to unacceptance to accepting this endless reincarnation with the fact it full of adventurous and experience.with this arc maybe he try to find another reincarnation (note this is maybe too cruel) he can but when the reincarnation people meet one of them die but why? Hmmm maybe its a terrible idea.
As I knew about the premise of Frieren, when I began watching the first episode I was ready to get hit in the feels and it didn't disappoint. I downloaded the first 10 episodes the night prior to my flight back home from Tokyo and watched them all one after the other, it was amazing.
Ive been looking forward to Frieren since i heard about it is a rare genre that it's even rarer that its done well. That genre being a slow thoughtful show that explores an idea or concept. Try the 2004 Kino no Tabi for another example of this done well (not the 2017 version). It like Frieren is a masterpiece in this genre but one i personally hold to higher regard. (the Dub is also extremely good and is one of the very few shows id say the Dub is better as it allows for you to focus on the world and it was done before the mass dubbing using the same voice actors).
Lol that daughter caught ligma protocol rain bit almost killed my gut. 🤣 I needed that, currently going through dopamine lows due to seasonal affective disorder. Winter blows.
Now I kinda want to see someone make a full parody for 100 Girlfriends, because that protag genuinely radiates the same kinda “wait, quantum mechanics allows this?!” energy as speedrunners. “Normally, the game has a pity system, and if you roll enough rejections with high karma, you’ll get a guaranteed success. However, the game stores this as an unsigned int, and takes a few frames to properly reset the flags. As such, if a runner could activate two proposals at once, he could cause an underflow glitch, granting 255 guaranteed successful proposals. This… is the Tenchi maneuver”
I love how Gigguk keeps making these videos, and somehow seems to keep one-upping himself with the jokes. That one summoning-sallt bit had me rolling. My favorite creator on YT by far
Garnt I don't know if you still edit your own videos, but if you do, this one was a masterpiece. Really clever cuts and references, probably my favorite seasonal anime in a nutshell video yet. I hope you don't get burnt out doing these because the quality and love really shows and I just wanted to leave you a nice comment of my appreciation :)
Love how you mentioned that frieren is also about appreciating the little things in life. One of the things that hooked me on this anime was exactly this
Undead Unluck is really phenomenal, it’s only going to get better especially as the world building progresses. It’s a fantastically rewarding series to spend time with and each little detail means something.
I watched episode 1 for the seemingly half-baked premise, stayed for the animation, then was completely hooked by the hook dropped in like, the 5th episode. xD What a weird underdog series.
These videos are always my favourite. The Humor, editing and script are peak. Please never stop making these. It would be really cool if you went back to previous years and made videos about them too. Love your work and keep it up.
Over the years of watching anime, Apothecary Diaries definitely left a mark as one of the best anime’s to exist. Something about the story and characters are just so good and refreshing. The cherry on top is that it’s gonna be a 24ep season which means 2x the excitement and anticipation
frieren legit made me cry.this anime hit the spot in so many different ways and you can really relate to the struggles that the characters faces. This anime make you think about your life choices
This anime is quite a whiplash. you started out speed running through her life and it only starts to slow down when she gets herself and apprentice, of whom actually teaches Frieren to learn to be mindful of her time even though she is almost an immortal.

My top 3 this season 1. Frieran, this should be the anime of the year 2. The Apothecary Diaries, I was surprised by how good this has been . 3. The Eminence in Shadow, well it was not as good as I expected it to be but still pretty fun.
Apothecary Diaries has been such a surprise for me this season. Definitely worth watching - the first episode is fine, but it really ramps up throughout. Historic Chinese Waifu House is a great way to put it. Frieren is fantastic and easily one of the best this season. Eminence is still the goat of isekai. I want isekai quartet with shadow and Kazuma meeting. Two goats. Overtake has been really great - but I am the target audience: I love racing and photography. Berserk of gluttony is hilarious for being such a copy and paste of everything fantasy/isekai.
I'll be honest here, that summoning salt segment made me tear up a little, i loved it. Great video, thank you for keeping us up with this seasons shows.
Frieran is one of the rare animes that completely hooked me within the first few episodes. It is so beautiful in many different ways from the stunning visuals to the well orchestrated music and the slow-paced yet never boring plot I can say confidently that this is definitely my top for 2023.
@@saebre. Eh they haven't really been mainstream that long really. Before like 2013's GDQ and Twitch really taking off speedrunning was pretty obscure outside of a few TASes of games like Super Mario Bros blowing people's minds back before 2010 every couple of years.
People are sleeping on Dead Mount Death Play. The animation isn't the best ever, but it's doing reverse Isekai right! Every episode adds more & more layers to the multiple mysteries, but you can always tell it's going somewhere. It actually got me reading the manga, and now I'm enjoying it even more! Edit: Shoutout to *Pluto* as well! Hot damn, that was a great ride!
@ARCNA442 Not quite yet, though the pace has definitely picked up (only 4 episodes in so far). But I started reading the manga to figure out if there were real payoffs, and now it all makes sense to me. All the mysteries & questions being layered on each other have purpose. S1 was introducing & setting up all the players & pieces, but it's all planned out. If you liked Baccano! or Durarara!! it's just like them (same writer). But I can see why it might not feel worth it to some people
He didn’t really discuss any sequel. He did mention during his livestream that he has read the manga and that this season was gonna be really amazing, so he’s not sleeping on it it just didn’t put it in the video.
Sousou no Frieren is so BLOODY good!! It’s a rare show that is extremely consistent with its high quality. You know it’s a banger when it has 28 eps lined up. This is anime of the year, I’m genuinely convinced!!
Shangri-La Frontier is like watching Dark Souls 2: Scholar Of The First Sin speedrunner learning to play Elden Ring (and rejecting the main plot to kill Malenia first).
you just make the best anime recap every season. thank you! Also: I couldnt stop listening to your voice while watching Frieren. Had it on my manga "to-watch" list since i saw your video, and you were damn right about it. Gotta thank you for that one aswell
Returner's Magic Should be Special is something that I've been reading for the last couple years, and I just want to say that it caught me COMPLETELY off-guard when I saw it pop up on the 2023 fall list. Berserk of Gluttony is in the same boat too. 100% It has amazing source material and I am hyped beyond belief for this adaptation from out of left field. With the Solo Leveling adaptation on the horizon, I can't be anything but excited for all the different manhwa and manhua to get animated.
is Returner's Magic actually good? Since there are so many good anime this season I didn't give a chance (especially since the MAL rating is super low too).
@@XanderFenikkusu I don't know about the anime, but the manhwa is good I wouldn't consider it the best. It is basically what you would expect, with someone who has a second chance to save the world with all their knowledge (not their power) from the future. You get to watch the protagonist try to navigate the situation with his future knowledge of magical innovation and the creative uses he made for weaker spells that he gained from said future. The protagonist from what I read (got interrupted due to life circumstances, need to pick it back up) doesn't ever really get OP, there's always a bigger fish which he can use his knowledge to combat. There's also the personal aspects that I'm surprised to see brought-up by a manhwa, often in these types of stories beginner writers focus on the main character planning and completely negate the personal side of things. To that degree we are left with an interesting situation where the protagonist wants to get his relationships back but he is simply a far more different person than he was when the original events happened.
100 girlfriends who really really loves you is genuinely a good story. I read the manga and it has many meta jokes and references like gintama, every girl has their own unique charm and it's just so stupid that it's pure entertainment
i've been watching you for years and your videos are now peak comedy with memes, inside jokes and amazing editing, glad to see you grow better every season
100 girlfriends is way better than I expected it to be. It'll take us an eternity to see all 100 girls lol. On the other hand Frieren is definitely the best one for me this season.
100 girlfriends really went up to bat and said, "enough of these harem anime not satisfying all their cute girls" and brought the A game to create the perfect Harem male protag.
@@someoneoutthere4844 The Harem MC for 100 Kanojo is hailed and worshipped by the community just for how much of a chad he is, its like he's the manifestation of the opposite of every frustrating thing other harem mc's had.
Yeah honestly, Kingdom of Ruin isn't that bad... I mean there are things at stake and the worlbuilding is good... But bro Ragna Crimson > Kingdomr of Ruin any day of the week. Today's chapter slapped kinda hard ngl
I love Frieden , honestly beyond the scenario the anime legit have sentimental value in my eyes Frieren was the last anime I watched while having my dog on my laps. He suddenly died the day after I started watchting and needless to say , I was devastated. He was the Best Friend I ever had and I had (and still have) a very hard time getting over his passing But Frieren really helped me. The plot is about someone that outlived her friends (Just like I naturally outlived my dog) but still keep going and even makes new friends. I really related to this anime with my situation and it feel very good watching a new episode every week
