Years ago when I first started bjj I had a friend that had no grappling experience that id like to wrestle around with. Back then I was in HS and no one knew bjj so I was kind of considered a wizard on the ground. Well anyway this friend that I always had trouble doing anything to would instinctively use this grip on me. i always had a hard time reguarding and I couldnt do much to him nor could he do much to me but hed stalemate me with this and wed be in this thing for like 10 minutes till we both gassed. Its kind of amusing to see that this is a real move and a real tactic. I love it!
yep, learned the cow catcher in high school as a double leg defense, and developed it into a snapdown takedown. I still use it frequently. Nevertheless I picked up a few good ideas here on how to utilize it more often
I’ve found you can often finish with the grip itself if your head wrap is deep. Failing that I use the underhook to spin to a short armbar. Love the emphasis on riding the position though. 🤙
Kind of reminds me of 100%, but in 100% the same arm which is controlling the head is underhooking arm, and other arm is gable gripping over neck. It feels like a cheat it works so good. Can't wait to try this too.
