Fall Hike in Red River Gorge Kentucky, Auxier Ridge

Klaus and I did a short hike on Auxier Ridge to enjoy the last leaves before they all fall down. Auxier Ridge has some of the best views in the Gorge and it was absolutely epic in its fall splendor. Enjoy our quick hike. I took my Nikon along and did some photography as well. It was a beautiful day! :)

Yes, I lucked out on the timing 😁 it was gorgeous! Klaus loves it! Hiking is one of his favorite things!

The sound that you heard coming from that Red Pine tree is the sound of a Pine beetle, likely a Sawyer Beetle larva actively chewing the wood. Along with the 1/4" holes as evident in your video, I would say that Pine is in trouble, as Sawyer Beetles attack stressed out, dying, or dead Pines. Sorry, as an arborist, it's interesting see people run across things like this. Good catch. Also, a couple of friends and I, along with my son and nephew, went and stayed on Auxier Ridge over night last weekend (11/25) and oh my was it COLD overnight.

Oh that’s awesome!! Thank you for sharing that information. Sad that it’s harming the pine though 😔. I’ve wanted to camp up there! Maybe eventually! 😊
