Pgf out of stock but I bought some more anyways for estimated delivery sept10. Big thanks to you Doc, LCN, lawncololgy, Ryan Knorr for all your insight on lawn maintenance. Made big strides last year and this season with my lawn of 6 years experimenting with different techniques. Greetings from MN.
I found that for pgf complete a setting of 2.75-3 for scotts mini spreader is perfect for 4000 sq ft lawn like mine. It makes it so you have to do two passes with it making sure these crappy cheap spreaders are compensated for as so avoid the common spreader stripes. Now pgf is rated for 5000 sq ft so one bag for 4000 sq ft makes 16-4-8 become 20-5-10 which is perfect for fall or other feeding if one wishes to be a one bag app and done. Smaller feeding like how doc says may or may not be better. Ive seen that grass and plants have active root hunting toward concentrated pellets over nutreints spread accross the area making the concentration pellet grass greener. The theory is that the grass doesnt have to suck the nutreints from a wide area but like a concentrate from a small area. Its like mining for gold within a vein vs over a an ocean bottom. Less resources on the gathering of nutreints like less root developement and more spent toward making more leafy plant. I never used it, but lets see if it can keep my lawn healthy especially since I have lots of new baby grass.
Thanks for a very helpful video on doing a hard cut for the fall. I need to do that... temps in Deep South Texas have been brutal. I need some of that PGF complete. I’ve not tried it yet. I’m looking forward to the new 2020 calendar. I liked the 2018 calendar but hated the round 2019.
Pgf complete is amazing. I put down pgf complete and it filled in all my dead spots in a couple of weeks. I think the key is the humic dg. I have heavy clay soil and humic acid is my new secret ingredient. I also haven't mowed in like 3 weeks because it's been so hot here and my grass is super tall like what you showed. Not looking forward to mowing lol
So I have more of grassy weed problem such as St Augustine grass and crab grass in my bermuda lawn. Also some nutsedge. What type of weed treatment regimen would you recommend for this fall?
Have centipede grass, Trying to turn it over to bermuda. I aerated, over seed twice put starter fertilizer and Milorganite . then I found you web page I purchased many your products you recommend. What would be my next step I'm lost after reading and watching you videos. Tom
FIRST!!!!! PGF went on Amazon this morning. I was about to write a nasty note about it not being available but it popped up this morning so I will get to put it on the ugliest lawn (mine) you ever saw. Looks like your dog likes it too.
Hey Doc, cool season grass guy here. Just wondering if it’ll be more beneficial to do a de-thatch then apply PGF or it shouldn’t matter? I’ve been using it, but I also need to de-thatch.
How To with Doc thank you. I’m manually de-thatching my front yard. It’s about 1500 sq feet, I’m renting an aerator for my back. That’s 6347 sq ft. Wish me luck.
Always great info doc. I have some questions I’d like to pick your brain on. I own a baseball complex in my hometown that needs some help. We play ball in the spring when I’m trying to grow so I’m guessing I’m needing to try to grow in the fall? Can’t wait to get the calendar, I’m hopeful that it will enlighten me.
Hi Doc, I have lived in Texas for 2 years now (originally from Michigan). I have Bermuda in the front yard and Zoysia in the back. It was really bad! Because of you it s getting sooooo much better, thank you! I seem to really be bothered by crabgrass though. What weed killer did you use for for the crabgrass and po Anna in the lawn you showed in this video? It looks so nice. And can you use it on Zoysia also? Again thank you for all your teachings.
I just put down the granular DG humic acid, 2 bags of PGF complete and a treatment of seven which is a grub worm ant and insect killer down. I’m going to water this in with super juice. I hope all of this stuff works doc it’s pretty expensive.
Doc can you give me the proper settings for PGF Complete using the Scott's Elite spreader. It would be nice to see you do a video on the Elite spreader showing how to dial it in.
Settings dont matter at all. What matters is how much you put down per square feet, its listed on the bag. I like to use a very low setting and make multiple passes for even coverage.
Do you ever use the organic 7-1-2 anymore? I bought that and didn’t use the whole bag, then PGF, then PGFC. Still have some 7-1-2 and thinking of stacking with PGFC over next 3 months. Thoughts on stacking different feet’s? Bermuda grass in North TX clay soil. Thanks Doc. Keep up all the great content, really enjoy your videos.
Doc, I think I may have some PGF Complete coming in. Big yard, have 10 bags on order. I want to stack after my overseeding program is underway. Thinking around 40 days or after 2 mows. Then start PGF
Here in New Braunfels,TX and i cant wait till October, as i type its 100 degrees at 6pm lol.....!! I did do one small treatment of PGF complete (really light in July) and it has helped my grass stay green. Just got 2 more bags so im ready for the fall. Ill definitely do a hard cut once it gets into the 80s as i kept my lawn at 2" all summer. New sod was put down in April so i cant wait till next spring to REALLY push my lawn. Thanks for the amazing vids and info!!
Checked the website and saw it was in stock. I ordered through the link from the website and Amazon said it won’t be delivered until September 5. Very frustrating.
i just bought a home and the previous owner didnt take very good care of the lawn. the lawn is a mess tons of weeds brown spots bugs i have no idea what type of grass im stil learning but it looks like a few different types if grass' anything i can do now to fix it befor winter hits us
I bought a house with Zoysia and I have two sections that looks like that weed lawn you showed. Post you said that was the results of pgf four times in three months, is that all you did to it?
Look for his worst bermuda lawn video, he basically killed off the weeds and then used fert/super juice to push the bermuda hard. Really gave me confidence as a new bermuda lawn owner that its hard to mess up this grass lol
Hey doc! I need to do some leveling on my lawn, would it be too late now! I have applied humic DG and some supper juice but my lawn does not have the density in all places. Some mushrooms just showed up in some areas but not in the ones that I want to level. I cut it with regular lawnmower since is a small yard but it feels VERY bumpy! Advice?
Doc, can you do some content on getting Bermuda to grow on hills? My house in GA has a hill and I struggle to get good coverage because the soil washes away.
Hey doc, I just got myself PGF Complate few days ago and wanted to ask you couple of questions. Right now, I am using the Scotts' products. And its almost fall here in Texas. The one that I will be applying in few days is called Scotts Turf Builder winterguard fall weed and feed. Do you think I can also use PGF Complate together? By the way, your videos are very helpful. Hope to hear back from you doc.
So what’s the difference between PFG and super juice? I’m in South Texas. Grass is taking a beating. What do you recommend? Backyard has a bunch of crab grass what should I apply?
Hey Doc, I have a question that I asked before but must’ve been overlooked. I recently planted Bermuda this last summer. I’ve always had winter rye lawns. I wanted to find out if it’s possible to have both Bermuda during the summer and winter rye during the winter. What’s your take on that?
One thing to know....Anderson's on Amazon sells another Lawn Fertilizer with Humic DG which is NOT PGF Complete. It looks like PGF Complete, is packaged similarly, shows Humic DG prominently on the label but is a 16-0-8. Got caught on this one I presume when directed to it when PGF Complete was out of stock and I was not observant enough to recognize it.
The 1st step is getting rid of the weeds. Try some chimicals like 2,4-D for typical broadleaf weeds like dandelion, thistle, clover, ground ivy. Also try a good dose of quinclorac for crabgrass. After you eliminate the weeds then go and rake up all the dead weeds. Then go in with fert and seed.
Some of the weed herbicides DO NOT so make sure to read label... fertilizer will work great, pre emergent will work as will fungicides. Always read labels 👍🏼
Hey Doc, could you do a Bermuda grass calendar that is zip code specific? I live in Fresno CA, and I'm thinking I should start my season a month earlier and end a month later. What do you think?
Most soils... if properly balanced will come back with the same. That's why we use a 4-1-2. That's the ratio a plant will pull and the 4 number is high and nitrogen.
Depends how much you will be applying as well as how much they will be applying...too much fertilizer can lead u to fungus issues or burning the lawn. If u apply a low rate of PGF you should be good to go.
Hey doc. Live in Dallas suburb and our weather has been hot and dry. We have only gotten 1.4 inch of rain this month (99% of that came today 8/24). Heat has been on the triple digits or high high 90s. This isn't breaking any time soon. Grass (Bermuda) seems to be doing well at keeping from getting burn out at 3 inches. I mow twice weekly even if the heat index is 120. I have the greenest lawn on the neighborhood. So when should I start taking it lower? Last time I waited for temps, lowered it (after Halloween) and cold temps set in. Grass didn't grow in time and I lost about 50% over the winter because we had a cold snap. So how long should I keep it at 3+ inches?
Hey doc. Thanks for all your info. Just following your advice ive turned my parents and my lawns around to now i have our friends and neighbors asking me lawn questions. I just tell them to find you on here or at your website www.howtowithdoc.com
