Bob did the odd coloured underpainting. One in particular was 'Indian Summer' This is a favourite of mine and I painted my version of it for the channel . Here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h0EFENwueaA.html

Dear Paul, I just have to leave a comment again! I never enjoyed painting videos or tutorials as much as I enjoy yours. It really is like you described it in another video: magic! Sounds great Stephanie. As a suggestion, try using Cad Red Light or Medium for your trees. Bob's landscape Bright red can sometimes look a little dull as its an earth tone. The cadmium colours give a greater pop so use with care 🥰😎

Thank you so much 😀Annie. The moo'er was inspired by yuor lovely paintings. A little more abstract maybe but loads of fun. Its actually a very textured painting on board. I built up the surface with artex and pva glue ( I think you call it spakle or plaster ). I just used a lolly stick ( popsicle stick ) to create the shape and fur texture. The rest is just me running amock with acrylic. 😃😃🥰

I tried this one. It didn’t come out nearly as good as yours, but I’m quite happy with it. It definitely came out better than I thought it would. Thank you so much for the guidance!!! I learned a lot doing this also (hint- when Paul gives his tip of ‘make it dark enough’ LISTEN TO HIM!! I worried I was drowning everything out and I wish I’d listened), so I think I’m going to try it again.

I followed along an painted this. Mine isn't as nice. I think I got a little to busy with the highlights in the trees. My left side ground cover is to uniform as well. Im tempted to repaint just to see how it will differ the second time. They never come out exactly the same. It was fun though and makes me want to do some more this style. One thing I struggled with was painting the tree trunks while still using acrylics. I was using a liner brush and it just didn't want to release from the brush. I kept dipping in water to thin but the brush seemed to get sticky
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt 10 месяцев назад
Hi Don - Good to read your experiences. They mirror just about every challenge I face as I paint so your in good(?) company. Leave it a while and play with some other scenes and sneak up on a repaint for this. I find the break helps me reset my mind. I prefer synthetic brushes for acrylics. Maybe that the problem. Natural bristles seam to gum up too much and get sticky. Also check that your brush is nice and clean. Old residue can build up and acts like a magnet for fresh paint. 😀😎

Hi Paul, just love your tutorials, especially this fall painting. Just one question before I get started. Is the underpainting done only with acrylic paint i.e. the green, red and black which you use with the sponge technique. Many thanks Paul.
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
Hi Alice - I started with acrylic paints mainly because they dry dry quickly and are stable under oil paint. I used brown and black acrylic which I left to dry completely ( it must be dry before you start using oils 😉) All the colours after that are oils. Hope this helps 😎😎
@michaelgoodwin5510

I am enjoying the mixed media approach to the wet in wet technique throughout some of your paintings. Curious, does it shorten the drying time any?
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Год назад
Great question Michael. So far I haven't noticed any change in drying times. Acrylic paints once dry are quite water proof and oil proof so they don't tend to change the nature of the oil paints. But I will take more notice in future. Best wishes - Paul 😎

Hi Ana - I used acrylic paints for the underpainting. From the video I used red and green to make a warm brown. Then added black acrylic for the foreground and edges. Make sure you let this dry completely before using oil paint for glazing. Hope this helps - Paul

Dear Paul, unfortunately we do not have Bob Ross liquid oil in our country. What alternatives can I use instead? Thank you very much. Emese
@PaulRansonArt
@PaulRansonArt Месяц назад
Dear Emese - can you buy Linseed oil? Its quite a common oil sold in lots of art shops. Iys much thinner so a tiny amount is all you need. I use the oil to wet my canvas to make spreading and blending oil paint easier. Plus you can wipe of a mistake without leaving a big stain. Keep the canvas only just wet - happy painting - Paul 😃😍😎
