I absolutely loved The Terror. It’s a big one but Simmons keeps the pages turning. I thought it similar to a Stephen King story, showing the evil of men with a frightening “monster” also in the midst. Just great. To think it was based on a true story is even scarier
The Terror is my favourite Dan Simmons novel, it took me a few weeks to get through (also recommend the tv series) It's also based on true events (the franklin expedition) and I think 90% of the characters in the book are real. the HMS Terror and HMS Erebus were real ships looking for new passage. You should take a look it's really interesting.
Just want to say thanks for introducing me to Grady Hendrix, just finished My Best Friends Exorcism and absolutely loved it! Definitely gonna check these books out too
I just found the channel man I'm loving the content! keep it up! I believe I first started when you were doing a breakdown of good horror novels to read and haven't stopped since I know they're not on par with Stephen King but Would you ever do a goosebumps Video?
Both the Erebus and the Terror have recently been found under the ice at the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. I love Simmons book and I think it's pretty cool that both of the ships are still down there, fairly intact.
Crazy stuff. I just finished the audiobook to this the other day. (The Terror) I enjoyed it. I thought it was a slog at times but very good story. I had asked for a early navigation book in my historical fiction group and I wasn’t really expecting a supernatural element in it. And with its dominant presence in the book it threw me off because it wasn’t what I was expecting going in to it. I really enjoy the topics of cannibalism though. So tense
I just read The Sun Down Motel also. Really liked it. I want to check out the author’s other books too now. I also read The Final Girl Support Group after watching your review on it. Loved it! Probably my favorite book so far this year.
Your hardback covers look great and well protected. What covers do you use on them? I'd love to do something similar to mine that I plan on keeping forever. Thanks 👍
@@jimmymango Thank you! Your books always look great. I didnt even think to come to RU-vid for book reviews until I came across your ranking of 61 Stephen King novels and now I'm hooked!
A simpler horror book I read when I was younger was 'The Hive' by Kenneth Opell, I don't remember if it was really good but I remember I enjoyed it. Just a suggestion I think instead of holding the book up you could just place it on the shelf behind you to display it :)
I absolutely loved the Odd Thomas series when I was younger, but struggled going back to it recently. Still worth sticking with, though I would say Odd Hours was my least favourite
No worries, hope that wasn’t too negative, I try to give most books a chance and they are still enjoyable. Think maybe because I loved it so much first time round was hard to go back. Interested to see how you find the rest of the series
Terror is very good yet the author has better books. Simmons was great author when he was writing scifi, fantasy, horror. Once he wen't mainstream it wasn't good anymore.

I have all the Koontz Frankenstein books as well. But I have not started it yet. I’m going to finish Odd Thomas first then give those a try. Good to hear from you! 🍻
