Great video to explain the difference. Implement the hierarchy of controls.

This was an awesome video! Can you guys make another good one talking about what exactly a “fall protection plan” is and when / what height it is required? I am a plumbers apprentice and I fell through a ceiling lol while attempting to stop a leak while me and my journeymen were pressure testing (his joint not mine lol). I was just above 10ft and in my opinion the safety officer 100% through my butt under the bus and said it was my fault. Surprise surprise lol! We stopped doing hazard assessments 2 weeks leading up to that due to my Jman not caring about them. I should have refused going up there when we had no safety plan in place but I like money and hours haha!

If one works on a ship over the ship's side, the arrest is more preferable as you have more freedom to move and falling, having the water under you, is not as scarry and harmful as a concrete. To work over the side of a building, I guess, the restraint is preferable.

It being dater or concrete has nothing to do with this tho in none of the scenarios should you be able to hit the Ground/water

How do you calculate 2 to 1 safety factor? Is it 2 times the workers weight? Please advise the calculation. Thanks.

The safety factor for fall arrest anchorages are not related to the weight of the person using the system but biased on the amount of force that is allowed to impact the body when a fall occurs. 29 CFR 1926.502 (4) (osha.oregon.gov/OSHARules/div3/div3M.pdf#page=23) states: Anchorages used for attachment of personal fall restraint equipment shall be independent of any anchorage being used to support or suspend platforms and shall be capable of supporting 3000 pounds (13.3kN) per employee attached, or be designed, installed, and used as follows: (a) as part of a complete personal fall restraint system which maintains a safety factor of at least two; and 29 CFR 1926.502 (d)(16) (osha.oregon.gov/OSHARules/div3/div3M.pdf#page=23) states: Personal fall arrest systems states: (i) limit maximum arresting force on an employee to 900 pounds (4 kN) when used with a body belt; (Note: body belts not allowed after January 1, 1998.) (ii) limit maximum arresting force on an employee to 1,800 pounds (8 kN) when used with a body harness
