Here are my most worn fall pieces, and whether I think you should thrift them or buy new (and some sustainable brands to give you options). Hope this can help share what I get the most wear out of, and also to inspire you to thrift any fall items you're wanting! Open for timestamps:

What I'm Wearing
• thrifted blouse
• pj pants I didn't know were gonna be in the frame lol oops
• daily rings (mix of mejuri + bluboho)
• daily earrings
_______________________________________
PIECES THAT ARE EASY TO THRIFT
• black long sleeves
• chunky sweaters and cardigans (any knits really)
• turtlenecks (cashmere ones too!)
• classic oversized collar shirts
• flowy button up blouses
• trousers (vintage cuts are very flattering)
• trench coats
• more vintage-y moto jackets
• blazers
PIECES THAT I'VE BOUGHT NEW (sustainability-minded options):
• crop top (ethical, canadian, oeko-tex certified → bit.ly/wallacecrop)
• joggers (ethical, organic cotton, small batches → bit.ly/baserangejoggers)
• sandals (ethical, upcycled, canadian → bit.ly/bravesolessandals)
• sneakers (responsible materials, vegan, recyclable → bit.ly/thousandfellsneaks (code inspiroue15 for 15% off))
• deadwood recycled leather jackets (currently eyeing → bit.ly/deadwoodstudios)
DISCOVERING SUSTAINABILITY-MINDED BRANDS (and shopping consciously):
• search for styles I want on bit.ly/garmentoryshop to see options and look at brands' sustainability/production info to assess whether to support
• keep an eye on consignment shops bit.ly/fashionablyyours
• eyeing brands and their standards on bit.ly/shopnewclassics
• discover small brands on instagram
All these pieces would be my fall capsule wardrobe as well. I don't do capsule wardobes any longer because I find they're too restrictive, but I apply my learnings and the same mindset to how I approach my closet now!

I liked how you highlighted that the most sustainable pieces are the ones you already own. Too many people on YT do sustainable hauls and that defeats the purpose. Those thrifted cashmere turtlenecks are gems! I've had luck thrifting a cashmere sweater in the men's section before so that's one place some may not think of~

I definitely think that fall symbolizes change and literally 'turning a new leaf' so I can see why people rock out new wardrobes, new styles, and marketing towards back to school as a 'fresh start' to the new year. either way, i love fall clothes. One thing that has helped me in building my wardrobe was creating a seasonal color palette. Yes, you found a cashmere sweater at the thrift. But no you can't get it cuz it's not your color and you won't feel good in it....that's me talking to myself 😋 thanks for your content. I really appreciate it.

Wow there were so many pieces of yours that I loved! Like the first knitted sweater you showed. I’ve found most of the clothes that I love and return to via thrift stores. There’s something to developing your own sense of style that allows you to be more sustainable, because you wont necessarily find something so special to a good price in big chain stores.

The part where you say it's worth waiting for an investment piece to come up in your second hand hunts... That resonated with me. I always try to thrift pieces first but I tend to get impatient and end up buying new sometimes when I cant find something fast enough. But you're right, there's no hurry in anything and it's sooo satisfying to be able to thrift something you've been looking for and for cheaper.
@inspiroue

Agree with all the clothes that you can or cannot buy in thrift shops and consignment stores. I had the same problems and yes I learn either to wait or buy new!! The funny thing is I was looking for a new pair of leather pants but could not find it anywhere ( not the shape I was looking for!) and then I found the perfect pair in my local consignment store! completely by chance! I sell some clothes there so using my account I paid only $20 instead of $100 and they are of an amazing buttery leather!!!!

9:30 this really resonated with me! I've been trying really hard lately to only buy items that I'm absolutely in love with and that I know I'll use for the next few years. But of course that requires patience and waiting, which can be difficult!

Haha I totally get it omg I get so impatient sometimes, but it's so worth it to wait until that perfect piece!! I do cave at times (specifically when thrifting) if I find something that's 80-90% what I want because it ties me over until I stumble on the perfect one x

@inspiroue
@inspiroue 3 года назад
I think any and all brands committed to *actually* doing better is a good thing, but I'm always super cautious of greenwashing and performative marketing (there's a fine line between changing for the better, and doing enough at the same time I think -- and there are always smaller biz to support that are trying harder than the larger biz "transitioning"). Would love to hear some of the brands/labels on your mind so I can look into them/keep an eye out (and maybe do a full video on this)! Appreciate your support as alwayss 💛

Sometimes - I often peep fashionably yours (they're a toronto based consignment shop that started an online shop cause of the pandemic) and sometimes think about ordering from IG vintage shops (like eliavintage -- only thing that stops me is shipping/duties to canada haha). I've never done depop/thred up just cause they're based in the states (and a ton of fast fashion pieces on them which I don't typically go for anyway cause the quality doesn't last). Some thrift shops (like VV) have closed their changerooms while others (Talize) have opened them and sanitize between changes. I only try things on at consignment shops that steam clothes between people trying them on though -- at typical thrift shops I've been buying without trying on but I usually know the ratios of pieces that fit well (talked about this more in my last thrift haul)! I would be I treated in a how to thrift high end items...I would especially appreciate if you talk about the pricing of these items...I am on long term disability and I cannot afford to purchase items in thrift stores in my city anymore. All the independently owned ones call everything in the store 'vintage' and that's partly why they claim the costs are so high. I do understand to some degree that the items are more curated so I get that a top might not be the same as at Value Village ($12 or less) However, I do find it frustrating when every top in the entire store is $40 and up. Don't even get me started on sweaters...if a sweater is even remotely nice then it is going to be close to $80 and I e seen sweaters in second hand stores that are $200. And they are not vintage. Can you help me understand why 'brand names/ designer labels' still mean anything at all in a second hand/ thrift or vintage store...they are items that people did not want, people are getting rid of, they have been worn and used by others already, and if they are not so,d they will end up in land fill ...so they are literally garbage. Just one step before being trash. I also understand that it is a bus and hey need to pay employees and keep the lights on. I'm all for that. But I would think for that reason, some money, any money would be better than no money. So when a purse was priced at $85 because it is 'designer' the marked down after time to $65 and then the date is where there is no more mark down...then it will be donated to some charity where it may or may not be purchased ( highly unlikely at that point so then off to landfill it goes...but there I am someone who is willing to pay something for it ...say thirty dollars. But they won't sell it to me. They would rather it go to landfill...I just don't understand. And it is not just one store this same scenario has happened at every store. And even at Value Village I was purchase two different pairs of jeans and one was twelve dollars ...reasonable, but the other pair were twenty seven dollars , before tax, and when I asked why they said because they are some brand name....They are in Value Village. They were donated and if not sold they will be garbage...so what difference does a brand name make..none...the whole point of any type of second hand is the concept of one person's trash is another person's treasure...it's all equally trash when it's in a second hand store , designer or not, until someone buys it. Although I care too much for the environment to completely give up on buying second hand there are so many issues , price, being a big one, that so many second hand thrift stores are driving people to go buy fast fashion. I can find clothes much cheaper and often better quality , which isn't saying much, from fast fashion stores. I literally saw a dress in Joe Fresh for nineteen dollars and a few days later saw the exact same dress in a thrift store for thirty dollars. I hope you discuss many of these accessibility, greed, business, pricing issues in future videos. Also, thrifting in smaller cities , like me, is so much different than in larger centres. The items you purchased in this video could not be found in a thrift store in my city no matter how long I waited. And if by chance it was there I could not afford it. Those sweaters , chunky ones, in our thrift stores would be fifty to sixty dollars plus tax at least. The cashmere without huge holes would be in the hundreds. I would be curious to know what you spent on your various items. Thank you for providing a place for me to vent my frustration with second hand shopping.

I think she thrifts mostly in stores but I've had a lot of success on Ebay and Poshmark as well! There's a huge section, especially on Ebay if you're looking for things that can be found in the men's section like chunky sweaters and button ups. As my weight has fluctuated, I've had good luck finding items that fit my style more secondhand online than in stores - oversized button ups, sweaters, high waisted pants and culottes, etc.

Well, you just stole my rant! I agree with you: Value Village is getting so expensive even for fast fashion items: we might as well buy them new!! I have been thrifting for close to 30 years and I remember fondly all the treasures you could find at a ridiculous price way back then!!!!

God I love thrifting so much but sadly in my country there’re so little thrift shops, it’s really nerve racking. Traveling 40miles every time I’m looking for something they might now even have due to the small shops, is just really not worth it.

That sucks :( I am lucky to live in a small city where so many shops are 'on the way' to run errands and stuff. Hopefully thrifting becomes bigger in your country!! Or even online thrift shops!

Lol I’m Asian too and I had a phase with gray and I also came to the conclusion that gray does not suit my skin tone 😂

Hahaha right!! Gray on warm asian skin tones is no bueno but I was in that phase for like two years so it's a lot of stuff I love and can't imagine getting rid of 😂

Please don’t hang your sweaters ! It’s damaging to them as the hang out (because of the weight )over time. Laying them flat is better :)

Haha yes definitely -- I fold all my precious knits! I've found that these felt hangers don't stretch or ruin the shape of thicker/chunkier knits so some of my thrifted sweaters are hung to save space 😂
