Falling and Improvisation 

Falling is an incredible tool for improvisation. There is a certain "switch off" moment that happens during the fall. Similar to when you pass out but much more short and sudden. After it happens you have to recover from a disadvantage immediately. You are stripped from your strong positions and need to find safety on the way down. That's a wonderful way to discover new things about your own movement, as long as you don't get hurt.
I don't think it is possible to really 'practice' falling as the whole point is that it is unexpected. On the other hand, we can allow it to happen more in improvisation, especially if we get comfortable with the idea and practice how to move safely when we're outside of the central axis. In a wider perspective the question is not "will we fall"? But "when will we fall"?
The inevitability of it makes it a relevant practice for any mover, dancer, martial artist and acrobat. And with falling, the sooner the better.
