We spent millions of pounds on maintaining this station and then we left to occupy some shitty RAF stations in UK. Glad to see our German Comrades are keeping Fally in good nick! I am retired civi who supported the British Army in Germany and was very proud to do so.
Brilliant vid ! Recognised lots and one or two old haunts in Fally town centre. Was there in the '80's and staggered up that road into Fally more times than I can recall. Great times and never to be forgotten. I intend to go back next year and see what has changed. And thanks Ray, great stuff.
It was 1970 when I was there home on leave from the Junior Leaders Regiment RE, My dad had just taken delivery of his brand new car, the roundabout that was on the way out of camp has now gone. One that roundabout a German in a merc smashed into my dads new car because he didn't know how to go round it. On that same roundabout was a little way up was a Gastatte that I took my 14 year old brother with me and we got drunk......I got in a lot of trouble that night.
I didn't recognise anything on this video. I was with the 8thRTR in Wessex barracks and the 4/7 RDG's were next to us They left for GB and that barracks was taken over by the 5thRTR.The regiments amalgamated on July 1st 1960. the 8th moved in with 5th and the 13th/18th Hussars took our barracks. I left Fallingbostel in September 1962.
