I carried that knife during the 03' ground invasion of Iraq! My teammate and I both bought one from a small town German knife shop about a week before we deployed. The guy made all kinds of claims of indestructability; even claimed that some special forces unit hammered a bunch A1's into a concrete wall and used them as a makeshift ladder. Never tried to confirm the story but we did similar tests and it wasn’t bull shit!! We did everything possible to break that knife! We used it as everything from a chisel to a MRE opener. We even cut holes in metal folding chairs to make field shitters. Hands down best knife I’ve ever used!I carried that knife during the 03' ground invasion of Iraq! Blackened blades, if blackened chemically, (not via PVD) i.e. as in the same process as blueing etc will confer very little corrosion resistance to a metal surface including either stainless alloys or steel alloys not specifically designated as "stainless". This is a physics thing. The outer laminate of the A1 is good on it's own to resist the rigours of salt spray. The blackening is just really to reduce blade reflection. I have spoken to metallurgists at Bohler Uddehom and they tell me this re the blackening process. PVD on the other hand can confer extra corrosion resistance but of course is much more expensive and dependent on the alloy to allow for this process of the physical vapour deposition to be applied. The cool thing about this knife is of course not new if one has been using Japanese made laminated ( I don't mean damascus type) blades but of course out of Japan made knees. The laminated blade if made correctly like the A1 will be almost indestructible (except under the most serious of abuse- not likely to be encountered by your average super hero even) and that spells confidence such that the user will fall apart long before their knife will LOL! Good video.

nice to see an Englishman who really knows how to use a knife some time the knowledge is deplorable, being a Swede I more or less are living in the woods and I know our blades are good,, personally I prefer an axe and a smaller knife, any how at the moment I am living on an island in the Baltic see way up north, no noting here but the harsh elements a step wrong and you are history, love it

He's from Wales. He mentioned it in a previous series that I've seen called azbushcraft.

Thanks for a great review. A tiny lesson in Swedish: it's actually pronounced "fell-kniven" with an audible K, not a silent one.

Thanks stolendata. You're not the first Swede to correct my poor pronunciation. I now pronounce Fallkniven the correct way. :-)

I just ordered the A1 (which I now call the steak sauce knife). I used to own the SRK and I used it in Iraq back in '08. I actually had two versions of it, I really liked the grip. I ended up giving one away, and the other was stolen by a Police Officer (good ol' public servants). I haven't received the A1 yet, the comparison will be interesting. I hope it's heavier. Call me old school, but I relate weight with quality.

I know many are worried about the quality of the Fällkniven-knives, I was too because I had seen and read about it failing but I believe all of those knves are fake. I have a S1 and I have beat the shit out of it, thrown it trees about a hundred times and even dropped it on concrete, and all that happened to it was two small chips in the blade about 1 mm deep. If you want a badass knife, buy Fällkniven! Both the zytel and leather sheaths are great btw but I prefer the leather.

Great review, a sharp and descent knife is a joy to work with! Makes it a lot easier to get the job done..(and safer as well).. Like the style of Dryad..

Say Heah Andrew Cheers M8, Yeah, The Fallkniven is one of my Fav's for a 1knife carry, only is my Rodent 6 which I had modified by thinning the blade and taking the top gaurd off I would put in the same category by that I mean if I ever was in a survival situatiin, I would love to have either knife on me and that's a complement. Although their similar, one is stainless the other one is carbon, ut both are high quality and both are made by great companies so as expected both are great knives. This is probably the smallest blade I would want as a Survival Knife, I generally like a 7"-9"+ for a survival knife, But I can use either knife and a neck knife and a hatchet and saw and do just about anything I need to do in the bush whether just for fun or in a serious survival situation. They say the best survival knife is the knife that you have at the moment, so if I let's say wearing my Skookum Bush Tool as my neck Knife (or any similar neck knife), that means I have two best survival knives, right ? I always felt my BK-2 was a little too short at times, so I got a Potbelly and that solved the problem, it's a good one with a nice curved belly that sort of looks like a modified Nessmuk on steriods and works great as a 1knife carry with only my Top's Mini Scandi 2.5 makes a complete functioning pair. But it seems I always come back to my Modde Rodent 6 or my A-1. Especially in colder weather determines the size axe I bring almong, Other wise I love carrying my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and sometimes I use my Rodent 5 which is close but no cigar but it's part of my lite carry and I usually pair it off with my Rodent 3. There's a destruction video on RU-vid that's worth watching on the A-1 that should prove how tough of a knife the A-1 is, also Mer does a great job showing how tough the SR101 Steel is, so you could understand why I've both of those knives. As far as corrosion the A-1 is the knife I lean more towards especially in a wet inviorment, but in cold weather be careful about micro chipping and that's where my Modde Rodent 6 shines. Regardless I'm very happy to own both, like I said, I would be extremely happy if I had either knife on me if the S H T F but if I had a chance to choose, I think I would pick my Modde Rodent 6, I also have almost the complete series of the newer Swamp Rats, and I got very lucky I was able to buy a brand new RatWeiler from Swamp Rat recently and that's a beautiful knife right up my alley size wise and all, Infact I paired it off with my Rodent Solution and they go together like soup and Sandwich or peanut butter and jelly, I know I post long, but I also learn alot from replies by other people. Thanx M8 and Cheers.

In theory the A1 is an all-rounder so can we do the hunting things? I'd like to buy an A1 because it can do everything i need well, but i'm not sure i will be able to do these things in a situation where i've got only the A1.

Where do you live in Europe? I'm wondering based off of the fact that you have what sounds like a british accent and where shooting what appeared to be a kalashnikov style rifle in the intro to the video. Probably safe to say you aren't in the UK.

Hey man this is also a good knife to get but you must be able to practice sharpening the convex edge.

I heard using a ferro rod on the spine of these is causing it to wear real fast. As the spine is not tempered like the rest of the blade(???).. is this true? Should I be worried about creating sparks with the spine if I purchase this blade?
@Rudecheers
@Rudecheers 8 лет назад
+Joshua Li You should not be worried at all, you might see some marks but it is not like the spine is eaten away by the ferro-rod. The spines on Fallknivens are brutal on the ferro-rod, not the other way around :)
