A re-edited video from 2019, I use the Fallkniven A2 in a woodland environment, chopping, battoning, making feather sticks and some basic carving.

Another good video my friend. I'm a fan of Fallkniven, I have F1 (test series), S1 Black, A1 Z and A1X, they are fantastic, thank you for sharing information about the knives. Best regards from Portugal.

Thankyou as always Rob I guess big knives have their uses but I will stick with my cheap Mora and Fiskers X 7 because I am not too clever with big blades for those fiddly tasks. You may or may not be interested but I just had a nice woodburner fitted and find great delight in starting it with feathersticks and kindling , top down burn method, my feathersticking improvement was a lot down to your videos, so thankyou again ,I can watch your channel in the comfort of a nice fire and a soft sofa lol.

You seemed a bit disappointed when you used it Rob. I haven’t tried it but I was surprised that it didn’t chop better. As you said I will stick with the A1x and a saw. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it

I've never had one of those, or a trail master; so I can't compare it to my Terava Skrama 240, which has been my companion the last few years. I'm just not that keen to spend that kind of money to find out; especially when we know it's not that great a chopper, which I don't really do anyway. I've considered getting the "Pro", but again, why pay the price when my savage little Skrama proves a nasty little bugger on just about any piece of wood. But I must admit, that A2 is still pretty enough to want one. I'm diggin' these jaunts down memory lane; it also give you a chance to take a breather from the usual commitment. Cheers!

Good evening Rob, I was wondering if you have any experience or input on Bark Rivers quality issues with their recent batches of knives. It seems like most of the knives I’ve recently purchased from them have big issues with their grinds. Also, do you know anything about their mislabeled steel issues? Thank you for your time!
@timb8970
@timb8970 Год назад
I’ve seen people get mislabeled steel by bark river. I had one of my knives by bark river and it didn’t perform as it should have based on the supposedly used steel.
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Год назад
I'm not a fan or Bark River knives, this is due mainly to the handle shape , it really doesn't work for me, I know nothing about mislabeled steel, that's not a good thing!

Love the big knife reviews! Out of interest, which do you prefer, a1x or san Mai trail master? Know it isn’t a fair comparison size wise, but I’m moving away from axes in camp and want to get the biggish camp knife tasks right for batoning etc!
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Год назад
That's a horrible question! I like both, if you're using a saw then I'd go with the A1x or pro, not sure what the trailmaster costs these days but for a hard use knife the A1x is good value but the handle might not be to everyone's taste.

Don’t see a use for that model in my opinion Rod. It’s exactly like you said too big for most tasks not the right size for chopping. I’m not a baton type. Just don’t have a need for it we’re I live. Funny thing I have a few big knives don’t use them I mostly use a machete 12in and a small 4in. Knife. I just ordered a $24 scandi odenwolf to give it a go. Hope everything is well for some reason I only see your older videos I don’t get any notifications of your new ones. As anyone else said this?

1:50 "Compared to the Trail Master, it's nowhere near as good!" Music to my ears. But, realistically, Rob, how would the A2 stack up against the Recon Scout, which is closer to it's size, if with a slightly shorter blade? 11:27 Not a great splitter methinks! For such a long blade it's not very thick is it? somewhat like a Junglas II and ESEE 6. 16:54 "It's a cracking knife for batoning...." Looking at your experience it didn't look that cracking to me. Blade is too thin, so it binds whereas the thickness of the TM just pushes the wood away. Hmmm very disappointing.
@RobEvansWoodsman
@RobEvansWoodsman Год назад
Dennis my friend, it's a decent knife but not as good as the Sanmai trailmaster. I would probably prefer the shorter heavier blade on the Recon Scout but the handle on the A2 is probably better, yes I know that falky handles are a little small but I like this one.

8 inches is just about the worst blade length. Too big to be handy for small cutting and carving tasks, too short and light to do big work like chopping.
@blaserlongrange7616
@blaserlongrange7616 Год назад
But perfect for splitting wood with a baton and light chopping tasks, combined with a small 3-4" neck knife and a silky you are well prepared for everything without needing to carry a axe or day pack
@jtr109
@jtr109 Год назад
@@blaserlongrange7616 a 9 1/2-12 inch blade performs markedly better than an 8 inch blade for chopping and gives greater span for batoning. The 7to 8 inch blade length is a compromise for easier carrying at the expense of performance.
