Settlement building is literally the best and worst part of this game

I'm only 15 seconds into the video and I don't hear any blaring, annoying ass dubstep and you actually sound like a normal person so take a thumbs up and Kudos!

That last building trick to build inside solid objects is really useful for rebuilding the castle walls

I did go a bit mental when you mentioned the concrete block... I think you have saved thousands a lot of frustration! :D

If there is nothing left to scrap and the size meter is still full, go to an area with raiders (make sure you have a lot of space in your inventory or you have a follower.) Every time you kill a raider, pick up their weapon or command your follower to do so. After that, go to your full settlement and drop them on the floor in the workshop area. Then go to workshop mode and select "store" on all the weapons. When you do this, the "size" meter will go down. Then take out all the weapons from the workshop and repeat. Infinite space!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you went out of your way to tell us the buttons for the other consoles not many do that great stuff! thanks alot!

... I have almost 500 hours in this game and I never knew about the height and distance adjustments...

+Eurogamer The key combos for PC are a little different than what you described: To select all, press and hold "E", then release. For Height and non-rotational movement, grab selected object(s) by pressing and holding "E". While still holding "E", the mouse wheel adjusts height, while moving the mouse slews the held object(s) around. I hope that clears up any confusion. -Edit. That clipping trick with the Cement Block base is an ingenious workaround! I'm inspired to completely overhaul my sanctuary settlement and build out a treehouse base!

The treehouse is pretty legit. Now I'm feeling kind of bad about the little crappy porch base I made on top of one of the houses.

About the settlement size: If you run out of space, and you have scrapped everything visible, just take a crapton of weapons, drop them, and store them in the workshop with the editor. They will remain unharmed and you will have a load of building space.

The raising/lowering and the clipping while moving your WHOLE DAMN STRUCTURE blew my mind.... This changes everything! Thank you!

Starlight Drive-in I often use Scaffolding, Boxcars, and Metal Shack pieces with some prefabs to make catwalks and elevated communities, freeing the floor and lot below for crops and stalls. Quite a clever idea this treehouse too. A+

Level 273 what the fuck

Don't know if it's been posted before, but here's a solution to getting rid of the settlement size limit without mods, hacks or console commands. Best thing is, this works on consoles as well as PC For this, you must gather as many guns as you can find; be it small handguns or rocket launchers. I reccomend buying or scavenging a ton of pipe rifles and hauling them back to your settlment. Now you must drop all the guns from your inventory and go into build mode. From there, you have to store the guns you dropped. Make sure you don't scrap the guns. And ta-daa. Done. Every time you store a gun in build mode, the max size metre will go down a little, so just take your guns out from your storage and repeat the process until you have the size you want.

They really should put those elevators that are usually on the bottoms of bases on freeways and one in Diamond City(takes you to the mayors office). I think that would be awesome to use in a tree house and add safety.

Wow, thank you for putting these tips together. I just started FO4 (late I know) and enjoy the Base Building, but was discouraged by some of the limitations addressed in this video. However I have a feeling things are going to change drastically now in my builds. Thanks again, keep up the good work.

I suggest for anyone having a problem on energy placements to give it more of an modern look have a place full of generators and then have large connectors across the town to connect to anything u need.

When you've got the floating floor you can use the small wooden steps to fill in the gaps. Doesn't work as well as the concrete foundations but it only costs wood.

Great freaking tips dude. Like I'm blown away. I thought there was to much stuff blocking my builds but you proved me wrong with that tree house/grouping build tip. No idea that you can do that and be that successful at it. Literally that tip alone opens infinite amount of creativity now. Way to save that for the end. Great way to end this perfect tutorial. Other tutorials just talk right past there own tips while you break it down nice and slow. Thank you this video just made fallout more enjoyable. Also your builds look insane.

I wish the settler limit (without mods) was of 5 + CHAR for small settlements and 30 + (CHAR x 2) for the large ones. Otherwise it feels crowded and with a lot of useless settlers on the small ones like the Alley, Zimonja or the Tenpenies. But barren and empty on the large ones like Sanctuary or the Cinema; and because of this it feels unnecessary to keep improving the settlements because with only 20 - 25 people for the big ones, with just 2 or 3 structures you cover all their needs. But if they were 50+ and the settlements had mines worth defending that produced crafting materials; now that would be motivation to fortify and improve the mining facilities and accommodations. I am sure some Mods will eventually take this path, but it would have been wonderful if Bethesda did this from the start. P.D. And make them be able to defend themselves. There is not much motivation to build turrets if they ALL are damaged when you don't arrive to help defend them. Hell a settlement with 120 defense, a single entrance, and all turrets on vantage points get attacked and if you don't go defend it, when you arrive all will need repairs making you waste materials, also all your crops and power generators, and water will need repairs as well. So what is the point? They are only useful when you see the message and go, then the turrets will kill all enemies in 5 seconds without needing your intervention.

Great video! A great little way to increase your settlement size is to drop weapons in your settlement and scrap them while in workshop mode. It only works with weapons and allows you to make some wonderful settlements.

I built a concrete wall around sanctuary and used the snap houses mod and somehow my sanctuary ended up looking a lot like a alexandria safe zone from the walking dead was never my intention just sort of happened

I've tried so many times to build the treehouse like this but it wit work :( if I select the cement block it doesn't carry the whole thing

Regarding the supply lines; if I have three settlements (A, B and C), will they all share their resources even when just connecting them A-B and B-C, or will I have to connect them A-B, B-C, A-C? In other words, is A and C connected if they are both only connected to B? I'm assuming so, since B would logically share resources with both A and C, thus A would also share with C and vice versa.

I really didn't see the point of building bases.. yeah.. I build a few houses.. few crops and stuff.. a few unnamed characters come and walk around.. and every once in a while I have to stop what I'm doing and come back to fend off some stupid raiders or something..

I'm gonna go ahead and say what everyone is thinking: they need to build a multiplayer mode around attacking and defending bases. you succesfully cap a base? happiness, supplies, and a couple villagers from the other player. you don't? penalties. if not fallout 4 then fallout 5. god that would be so amazing.

Must be nice to have a wife or girlfriend to game with you. I just ended a 11 year relationship with a girl that hated gaming and it sucked. Im from a small town of 1000 people and there's not many gamers here especially girls. Ive really got back into gaming lately and im pissed i sold or gave away my older systems. I had a super nintendo, nintendo, sega master and genesis, n64 and gamcube, original xbox, gameboy, gamegear, 3do, ps1 & 2 and dreamcast and there all gone and it blows because im starting to buy it all back. But i do own all last and current gen consoles and handhelds so thats a start. I really enjoy collecting games and systems, i almost bought a pippin just to have it.
