Fallout 4 - Blind | Part 2, Finding Sanctuary 

Yeah, it's one of those things that are really fun to watch through the eyes of a new player again - she's doing the rational thing of looking over and ignoring weirdo (and heavy and low-value) desk fans and pepper grinders and dinnerware where anyone who has played the game just get gets that constant jolt of endorphin as you go “oh, she found one of those, and some of that, and one of these!” The game is really generous with great stuff in the starting location but you don't realise it until 20 hours and 10 perks later :D

And desk fans, and adjustable wrenches, and wonderglue, and used oil cans, and TV dinner trays.

Forget coffee mugs. Duct tape, wonder glue, and fans and clipboards are where it's at. Adhesive and screws are the bane of the early player.

i swear, it has become such a duct tape finding game for me now.

@@andrewmartin1616 I know that... but then I found- just be a farmer an grow, corn, mutfruit and tatos adding some purified water to the mix at a cooking station makes vegetable starch and poof! growing your own adhesive

I had the special edition that came with the irl pip-boy. It was cool, but kinda useless overall. It had two critical flaws. The first being that if you have anything above an average sized forearm, you couldn’t even put the dang thing on 🤣 Me being a bit of a larger man, I couldn’t even get it to close over my arm. The second being that the actual slot where you inserted your phone was real small. I had an iPhone 6s+ and it wouldn’t even fit lol. If you had a smaller phone you were good but otherwise…I mean at least the pip-boy made for a cool shelf ornament. The app itself though was actually pretty sick, but overall just kinda gimmicky and you were better off just using the in game pip-boy.

I have the app on my old Windows Phone - as far as I am aware, it still works. I tried to use it for quick-access of items in the game but it's clunky as all hell. When the Pip Boy doesn't pause the game, you start to realize how clunky the interface really is.

You could also play the pipboy games on your phone

I was going to suggest this too. I understand wanting to keep to the base game, but the dialog menu they chose is just so badly implemented. Even Bethesda went back on it with FO76

Keep in mind reading what they will say exactly, while characters are barking at you to say something, then having your character just say the same thing you read outloud may not work well for her, all things considered. i suggested this as well though.

@@SSSauceyBuns I have to disagree slightly, since yes, it's 100% just a quality-of-life mod, but not at all true to the base game, since the base game is extremely frustrating without it, especially if you ever feel like using the "sarcastic" option, which can range from making a pun to just strait up being a synth bigot. Missy wants the "Authentic experience" of the game, probably so she can make an unbiased opinion of the actual product. Considering how buggy the game is without the unofficial patch and other fixes, I'd say that she's already cutting the game a lot of slack.

Just hit the Pip-Boy button to interrupt the animation (before your hand reaches your mouth) and cancel it. Finally - If you get tired of those loading screens, I suggest upgrading to a SSD if you can, or if you haven’t already. Does _wonders_ for loading times.

Yay thanks for noticing that I am winning my on going battle with audio balancing! Also I appreciate the tips, and I'm glad to see your cute puppy profile photo still popping up in the comments. I'll probably not run straight back into the cave for the note but I'll keep it in my mind for next time we come near that location. Awesome to know that we can cancel actions, I had no idea! Oh, and the game is already on an SSD. I might try a Load Accelerator mod that was recommended to me, though. That or start snipping it out in the editing room.

@@MissieMae The cave note is indeed nothing urgent, just a fun little detail that adds some context to the cave. As for the loading times, other than an SSD I don't really have any other suggestions; I'm not familiar with the Load Accelerator mod so I can't say either way. Srsly tho ... do give that teddy bear to Dog when you can. Trust me. 😉

@@MissieMae yes I noticed that too, maybe the game is loading slowly? you play on an hdd or an ssd? Also I see you use the Boston FPS Fix mod, I recommend the Previsibines Repair Pack instead, it does the same but it's more up to date and expands the fixes to all the map, not just Boston. (you can replace them mid-playthrough without problem)

I don't remember them either. But then again I think you can click through the conversation to get to the next point of dialogue. So I easily could have gotten into the habit of tabbing to the next point when they were ready for it and not even noticing that there had been a pause.

@@MissieMae Been a while since I played but it definitely seems like the pauses are unique to your game. Bit odd but might just fix itself at some point (as most glitches in Fallout 4 seem to do)

I have this happen every so often in my game. I have my fps locked because if it's not it goes super fast and over runs each line with another line

Until you get enough farms growing stuff to make your own, yes. Even then, still handy.

99% of the time. Sadly every once in a while the game seems to forget this. Might be good to save before conversation in case you are trying to say something and the vague options have you say something way out of character instead.

Something that isn't ever stated, but you can quicksave while in dialog.

Yeah you definetly want that on when settlement building. I ended up downloading an autosave manager mod that would autosave more often than vanilla because I was tired of losing an hours worth of building after a crash because the game won't save in build mode.

Also i can't help but notice (sorry for yet another comment btw) that your game seems...delayed? The holotape animation was slower than it should be, and dialogue in the hi honey tape was delayed as well, there isn't supposed to be long pauses like that between sentences.

I don't think it's so much blunt vs bladed as just variable based on type. That's why they have a speed listed, with the nation being medium and the switch being fast. And the listed damage is base damage, not DPS, so a lower DAM but faster weapon could be as good, or better. I also *think* (but am not sure) that faster weapons use less AP in VATS than slower ones. In the case of the baton and switch they're probably about equal. Especially for dealing with weak enemies like roaches and flies.

Yeah I've heard others say the same but since I don't have a frame of reference for how the game is supposed to feel speed-wise it's really hard for me to diagnose the issue but I am working on figuring out what's going on there. So far I know that the game uses the frame rate for its animation, physics simulation, user input and a lot of other things, so high frame rates can start to cause problems in all of those areas and I was told the reason Bethesda even added the iFPSClamp option to the ini file was as a work around for higher frame rates screwing up the game. I've set iFPSClamp to 58 (recommended) so the game will ignore frame rates above that for it's animations, physics, etc. This way we should still get to see higher frame rates, only the game systems will ignore them if they go above 58. This is the extent of my knowledge on that though, and it may not even be related to the cause of the slowness. I might try replacing Boston FPS Fix with a newer version recommended by the mod author and I'm also planning on using Load Accelerator. I'm not sure that'll fix it but I'll keep on trying until something does. 🥴 (sorry for the wall of text just trying to put the info out there incase anyone has an advice). UPDATE: Substituting Previsibines Repair Pack for Boston FPS Fix and removing the FPS clamp has fixed the dialogue lag. If I am understanding correctly, removing the clamp might make some animations stutter but that's better than the game moving in slow motion so I'll take it!

@@MissieMae I had to use this mod. It took 10 minutes loading every time I went inside an interior cell. That mod saved my life 😂

@@MissieMae it's definitely good to try it whenever you may feel like it. Fallout 4 has been weird for me, super long load times, pauses in between dialogue, and I had to cap my fps because if it wasn't, the dialogue would over run itself

FUNNY YOU SAY SO BECAUSE: I had my FPS caped at 58 in this episode leading to awkward pauses in dialogue. I uncapped it for episode 3 and a few lines of dialogue ran over eachother but not all of them, only a couple. This is wild. I'm having such a hard time making this game just run in such a way that it's a nice watchable experience lololol

Yep I have the game of the Year edition and I'll do some DLC here and there when we start running into them or when I want a change of pace. :)

There's a point in the game where someone let's you know his name and then he starts to be named.

And then they added the Automatron DLC and cranked it up to 1,000.
