FALLOUT 4: How To Get a MASSIVE HEAD START in Fallout 4! (Hit Level 10 in Less Than 30 Minutes!) 

Do you know what's stupid? A Combat Rifle gives 12 Steel and a car gives 10 Steel.

Kind of old now, but the best way of doing this is to build signs. The basic metal signs in the game are stackable so you don't have to spend all the time of going back and forth with posts and then go scrap them all, you can do it while standing in one spot. My second play through I was level 8 in like 5-10m.

If anybody is scrolling through the comments i would recommend doing shelves instead, theres 2 types; steel & wood. you can just spam them on each other and it only takes 2 steel or wood per shelf. It is also easier to scrap and you dont have to move around to place them. Plus if you have the idiot savant perk you can get xp even faster that way.

Mmmm lvl 10 character, level 10 enemies, with level 10 gear, and you have a jumpsuit and a 10mm pistol. lol

its probably obvious, but before you do this make sure you have 5 luck so you can take idiot savant at level 2 and get a shitload of extra xp from this

level 10 is like ideal to have your character's "build" or archetype established. so really helpful for those already making new characters for a new play through.

While setting up the Sanctuary crew over and over is tedious, you have to get through a deathclaw to do it, so I use this method in a slightly different way. I know that little quest line will require me to build the settlement up a little. I just do that at the start instead of going through the monotony of making a thousand fence posts. I'd rather build a highly defensible tower with ten beds ready to be filled with settlers as soon as I get out of the vault. Then I can just blast through that dialogue and collect all the XP. For roleplay, I think of it as my character working through the trauma by rebuilding her home. Later on I'll add in a field of corn, mutfruit, and tatos to make adhesive (that's about all settlers are good for) and get rid of whatever random crop I'd plopped down to meet the food requirements.

To me, this is cheesy, but not cheating. You could get a huge xp boost just by doing a lot of regular crafting and customizing your settlement as soon as you get access to do so. The way you've shown is just putting off doing "productive" crafting in favor of xp efficiency. Not a big deal.

This is the equivalent to the iron daggers in skyrim for smithing lmao

Id suggest doing this with a painting on a wall instead cus they just stay in one spot and stack on top of one another. So you can just press a over and over and over then just scrap over and over repeatedly

I didn't hate Preston and his quests as much as other people seems to. I loved building and helping settlements. Most of my time playing fallout 4 went to maintaining settlements and helping minutemen (it's more fun when you have all the dlc installed).

Here is the thing (I am new to franchise, but not Gaming) - If you purely want to level up, your exploit is fine. As a gamer though, I want more than experience. I want to go out into the world with great gear (armor, weapons, good food) and I don't mind good experience. I will not be using this exploit, but I like the purified water exploit, and infinite adhesive update (both are extremely useful)-- Too all reading this, collect as much junk as you can. if your going to play like this, just use the freaking console or download a mod that starts you at level 10.

I'm just gonna point this out, for anyone who wants to do it, but if you love settlement building I suggest (if you have the resources) wire in full lighting systems. You get a lot more xp from electronics you build than from anything else. What's that Sturges you want a tv, sure, let's put in a juke box, a radio, and even a fancy led display.

I love exploring the fallout world and that seems more fun but an excellent suggestion using the build system to your advantage.

I think that if you're interested in screwing around with some new build styles, this is a pretty handy way to get a head start to feel out those foundational perks. When I built a melee-type character, after I used this to bulk up to Level 8, I took all the materials from Sanctuary, skipped over to the Drumlin Diner and killed Wolfgang, and then traded a huge stack of wood and steel for General Chao's Revenge.

Did this, got distracted into scrapping everything and ended up building a settlement .

Now that I've had some time to play for a while, I realize that I actually enjoy the building process, and on my next play-through I will definitely spend more early game time on construction. Probably not this repetitive, though.

I typically do that already, but I also grab bobby pins to pick locks to safes and also hack that terminal. Also, on one of the safes, there's two things you can disable to gain more experience. Also, I build the things I need for the "Sanctuary" quest, so when Sturges gives me the quest, I'll have everything already done.

I'd recommend the last sets of shelves in the furniture, they each take 2 materials and stack indefinitely to be easily scrapped, i got 13 before i left sanctuary. I like to think of it as your character developing fine motor skills with crafting peace

or just build a huge house like me. two floors and a balcony and use idiot savant at level 2 and well rested will add more xp . i get to level 7 at sanctuary and then build another house on top of red rocket and im level 9 or 10 when im done.. plus a i do a hub flower run after building house #1. i get around 44 hubflowers in a 5 x 5 grid from the top corner of the map.so 25 blocks.

I just got the game after waiting a year for other priorities in real life to be resolved (I had a bad roof on my house), and I tell ya what - a better choice is Warehouse wooden floors since steel does not get used up. It is also good to keep a save from just before riding the elevator up from the Vault, because at that point you can re-do everything about your char one last time. ~Specifically your SPECIAL set up And finally, keep in mind both that you can go after the Bobbleheads in the game to gain one last tap upwards to these stats - and there is also an immediate +1 to any SPECIAL stat that is gained by grabbing the "You're SPECIAL" book from the floor of your old home. Setting up those stats is crucial to gaining the Perks that require them I honestly got this game finally at the beginning of December 2018, and after a month of near marathon grinding on it I can say that it breaks down into calculating the best SPECIAL I can work out, gaining the Ballistic Weave Armor first, and then going on a massive Bobblehead-Hunt. During all of this anther major advantage you can set up is to horde materials in a separate container until you can build a "Decontamination Arch" at one of your locations.That by itself makes your CHAR non-dependant on RADAWAY

this reminds me of the method in Skyrim in which you'd just craft iron daggers over and over, they eventually patched how xp from crafting worked in that game so I wonder if this'll get patched too. I have a hard time understanding why some people get butt hurt about things like this in a purely single player game though, it's not like the method in which another player chooses to lvl up their character will have any effect on your experience with the game whatsoever.

I love watching your videos. I don't see myself using this tip on my first play through…however, I can see myself on a second build and any past that, using this trick to give myself an advantage towards starting leveling. You could explain it away if you RPed your character as some kind of nascent OCD survivalist. He gets into the new world and quickly realizes he's fucked unless he brushes up on his skills....

Within the rules of game, I dig that, you are practicing building, in a way - you can roleplay the activity like that if you like - but it's boring and cheesy. Just clear few buildings. More fun.

The problem with this way of grtting levels, is unless you invest into perks like Rifleman, or Gunslinger, than yiu won't be getting stronger, but the enemies however, WILL. Say, you do this on Survival difficulty, than you go, and instead of fighting level 1-3 raiders, you'll be fighting level 10 raiders, with a 10MM Pistol and a dog. Unless you skip that area until you have better gear.

HOW did I not think of this early on? It's just like the shortcut to leveling up in Skyrim (increase your Smithing skill by collecting iron and leather, then just craft tons of iron daggers)! I wonder if Bethesda does this on purpose as a sneaky way to give players unaccustomed to their games a helping hand? If so, that's very nice of them. If not, well, start paying attention.

I'm not keen on this exploit, but I'm now 1k hours into FO4, and admit I've scrapped over 70k items and built over 10k items in settlements. I've easily levelled up 15 to 20 levels just by building settlements and redoing them as the DLCs came out. Can't wait for MODs on PS4 so I can re-do them again lol

A quick tip to scrapping the fences that you've built is holding A on console or E on PC so group everything in the perimeter and scrapping it like that

Somehow everyone seems to leave out that if you sleep long enough to get the "you are feeling well rested" text on screen you gain an temporary XP boost an if you do this method the XP will keep rising.

Wouldn't it just be easier to get enough wood and steel to make one wire fence then scrap the wire fence then rebuild it, then scrap it, then rebuild it etc., etc.,? I mean, if all you want is experience and save time, that should save 15-20 minutes right there. Of course, what I would do is scrap everything I could, make a minimal base with food/water/garden and then go to Concord. I think why so many people dislike Sanctuary is part of that whole part. I mean, I hated Sanctuary. I left there and never went back.

I really don't see how the game is "too easy." It's harder than Fallout 3 and New Vegas at normal difficulties. But it could just be that my Endurance is 1 on all of my characters.

I do the same thing when I start out, but I don't do it quite like you. It usually takes me a few hours, but I build up junk fences around Sanctuary (like a wall) and focus on building stuff I will need for when settlers arrive. I then explore and try to find existing settlements with the following crops: tato, corn, and mutfruit. That way I can make adhesive fairly easily. This takes about 10 or more hours before I hit level 10, but by then I have some ok items to start off with as well as locations I can farm (even though I am not allied with some of those particular settlements).

If you haven't made an update video yet, you should to let people know the fastest way of doing this method. For steel at least all you have to do is just place a metal sign on the same spot over and over (at 12/24/2015 they had not patched this) and scrap them when you're out of steel for half the steel back and rinse repeat till you're out of steel. You literally just press one button over and over then two back and forth and repeat that until you're out of steel. It's nice to have the radio playing because this is the epitome of grinding lol. I think of it as transforming steel into xp and I always keep raider armor as 4 pieces of that mean I can make another sign. If you have it, and try to have it as you can get it 15 minutes into the game, get the ushanka hat as it gives +1 int and take mentats and wear any other + int equipment you might have. Mentats are effective during settlement mode, but their timer doesn't go down in that mode so you will always get the int benefit while making/scrapping metal signs as well as the equipment. You're getting 3-6 xp boost each sign you make and the mentats and equipment can boost the xp bonus 1-2 points. Considering you can do this 200-500 times depending on how much steel you have from scrapping Sanctuary and other settlements those one or two points add up! Note: Not recommended for new players, it's just good to have if you started over and wanted to catch up to your old characters level/progression in the story faster.

This method to get XP is completely within the rules of the game though it's super cheesy, I mean, under what lore logic you can get better at killing things by building fences? If I want to get a head start in my next playthrough I will just use the console commands to give me a few levels instead of spend 30 minutes doing this boring thing... Now, in no way I'm saying this is bad just that it's pointless in PC. I don't know if you can use something like console commands in consoles but if you don't I would still not do this, not because I think is bad but because I think it's boring to do so.

Tip: the console command "Scrapall" will scrap all of the scrappable items in a settlement at once. Nice to use before you start building a settlement.

You do this your lv 10 basicly NO WEAPONS and strong enemies are spawning... Your screwed

Another good way of getting xp without taking up space like fence post is building signs on the sides of houses. You can actuallly stack signs on top of eachother making it really easy.

Wow. I didnt even know that you could do that. I kept running around trying to find items in non workshop mode and i kept thinking that i had to stay at the bench.

HOW TO GET A EVEN BIGGER HEAD START: 1. open console 2. spawn x-01 power armor 3. spawn good guns and melee (late game) 4. spawn a lot of ammo and caps. 5. ruin the game.

I got something to add to this, while it won't level you up, youll get some equipment pretty damn fast. Upon discovering the Combat zone, you'll meet the follower Cait. This comes into the equipment part I said, Cait can pick Master Locks in about 1-6 Bobby pins, from my experience, This can be used to access the Brotherhood of Steel armory, which contains a X0-1 Power armour helmet, as well as a Gauss Rifle, and a Fat man. Also, for the lower lvls having a Harder time at the game, I'd would suggest buying and upgrading the Rockville Slugger legendary weapon asap, if you use Power armour with this Baseball bat, you're almost unstoppable, since baseball bats don't run out of ammo, don't try and fight behemoths though, if you happen to find them, and Deathclaws shouldn't be a Huge problem, play in 3rd person as well, it offers a higher melee speed. 👍👍👍

I definitely find this as a valid, or reasonable, leveling method, if and only if you are making another character and you have already played the game before. I encourage everyone to not start off your Fallout 4 experience by doing this. In saying that I believe everyone should do whatever they please, so if you find this to be important to your predicament then go ahead and use it. It is definitely nothing too cheap, it's simply bypassing level

Shouldn't be wasting steel making wire sections of fence. Burn wood on the first half - sure. But save up the steel until you can get chemist.. that lets you turn every 250 (a shppment costing 900 at best-price) into 1600 worth of poisoned caltrops. So you are getting caps along with exp.

One of the down sides of doing this is you'll be fighting guys who spawn with much better gear than you do. One of the up sides is you'll pick up better gear faster. :P

I only did one playthrough. One main save. No mods. Spent over 600 hours on the playthrough. Watching this now to start a 2nd playthrough. I did all the dlc. Have all the trophies. Now I just want to enjoy the game.

It's easier just to get idiot savant, quicksave before turning in a quest and then keep reloading until it triggers. At low levels you'll level up twice with each quest.

If you want more practical way to boost your character, than building and destroying fences, do sth like this: take Savant perk ASAP, do some starting quests (go to Red Rocket Station and explore, Concord, Museum, get back and start the settlement), then explore surrounding terrain and fight with as many creatures as you can, gather their meat, go to Sanctuary, sleep to have "well rested" bonus, than go and make "cooking/brewing extravaganza session" (cook all meat, create all chems you can do etc.) and upgrade your weapons. This way you can gain some exp for start (Savant works with all crafting events) in more interesting way, you don`t have to waste any materials and gain some healing/boosting consumables for your hero. It`s probably not that effective, but still could be some solution for all "building fence" haters ;)

I know I’m 3 years late, but you can use shelfs on a wall and they can be placed on top of each other. Which means you don’t have to move and it’s easy.

I appreciate videos like this, I got fallout 4 a long time ago but was intimidated by the early game stuff this can help me complete my character builds that mostly involve skipping the minutemen LOL

You can place paintings on top of other paintings and keep spamming the place button, then scrap all of them then do it again. And you can do the same thing with rugs/mats.

I always build one or two buildings at the start of a new game, gives a load of XP too, isnt that monotonous and provides you with sort of a base. Starting with a character that has high intelligence also helps.

I really love this trick. In fact you can actually use it at high levels whenever you are trying to level up and need that little bit of XP just do this and finish that level off.

I build Door mats & metal signs, you can stack them on top of each other (so you don't have to walk backwards) :) you can simply scrap them while standing still, on PC it's : SPAM R SPAM E :D

It seems to me that more complex the item one builds or crafts, the more experience one is awarded... So once you've spammed your way to level 10 (or 15 if you're that persistent) why not spend invest time gathering the various local "herbs" to manufacture Jet... Or Psycho... So at least at the end of that production cycle you not only have the added experience you can also sell those chems for well... Almost anything going.

I will def be doing this, I will be one of the Xmas noobs but I've played maybe 7 hours at a friends, being able to get some extra stat points before doing any quests or getting in ne battles will def be of help, u can get perks early or just use the on the basics to give an overall buff. additionally, what I would do is go to red rocket & sanctuary n scrap everything! gives u more resources to build longer.

Good idea! Just finished my first play through and didn't exactly get the ending i was hoping for. Starting over again hoping to use what I learned the first time.

Cool vid. My method is to star off a character with 10 inteligence and 4 perception to get the advanced lockpic perk right at the beginning, to gain access to the library, put the rest in agility to sneak past enemies, and get the intelligence bobblehead, so you can start the game off with 11 base inteligence. Boom, game over, roll credits. *EDIT* for those who don't know, any experiece gain in the game scales with inteligence.

Pc Tip: open console and type in "Scrapall". It will scrap everything including the gun bench and things of that sort but it is Very useful.

I almost always hit level 9 within a 15-20 minutes of leaving the vault just by speedrunning concord to diamond city.... Get a LOT more headstart that way tbh. Though I guess this works for anyone who may not be confident in doing something like that.

Meh, I don't do quite this much but I definitely prioritize building a whole bunch of basic structure in the beginning. Chemicals and the like give tons of exp.

There is a magazine under a crib in sanctuary that will let you add one point to any of you specials. Also a cellar under the blue house that has gold bars and other goods

Did you know you can hold down A to select a bunch of items at the same time? Much easier to scrap all those posts and wire fences at once.

My only problem with this method is that if you do this to completion (use all your resources for fence posts, then scrap to get 1/2 resources back, then build fence posts, then scrap etc, etc) then you won't have the necessary resources when you need to actually start building the settlement after meeting Preston. So, while getting the initial boost in XP you're hamstringing yourself later on.

I get 10 levels from building sanctuary up from the ground. Plus deconstruction of everything there.

Sorry to see you playing this on console. :/ On PC I just console command: scrapall Done, ready to build. Only drawback is you also scrap the existing crafting stations. But honestly, with Red Rocket so close as a backup crafting spot I'd rather save the time instantly scrapping everything in Sanctuary. Best to do while standing right in front of the workshop so you can deposit everything into it.

Hey JV2017gameplay, a faster way to do this is while running in a line in the street and doing a long run, you get up to 40xp per sec

Thankyou. My game kept crashing on my main (i think i hoarded too much for a console) and i just used this to get to level 10 on a new game.

first perk to get is the lockpicking because in sanctuary theres 2 safes that cant be open until u have advanced lockpicking. you also missed the safe that was at red rocket that got shiped and dropped above the rocks to ur right as u walk along the bridge towards red rocket. it has stimpacks and 10mm pistol. also a bit further that way u come to about 2 to 3 wild dogs and where they were is cans of dog food.

This is awesome! I leveled to 50 on my last game and it's nice to be able to get a head start. I didn't really know how to play my first time. I didn't even know you could jet pack power armor...

This is actually very useful and it's not a exploit because you are not changing the game it's in the game lol

just a little thing to throw out there, when you get your first level up, you should get scrapper one for this.... youll get extra items for later crafting. also, maybe take your time by scrapping very little to get scrapping 1 THEN go on a scrapping spree..

Alternately, you can hit the ` key, then type player.modav experience XXXX (Fill in the XXXX with however much experience you want). It takes about 1.5 seconds, and gets you to level XX.
