Fallout 4 on PC is BROKEN! - Next Gen Update 

I can't even play for more than 5 minutes on PC before the whole game crashes. This should get Bethesda a class action. What a mess.

I can't believe Steam forced this update. Players should have been able to opt out if they wanted too. I had to modify my install to prevent it from updating. Shouldn't have had to do that. It's literally changing crap on your computer without permission. Invasive. It would be different if it was a security update, but this was supposed to be a quality of game play and added DLC update. It's not that I'll never update it, I'm just waiting until shit gets ironed out. Most of us know that Bethesda is going to mess everything up in the beginning, they are known for it. "It's not a bug, it's a feature." They then rely on the modding community to fix THEIR broken game for free, because they know the community will... It's dirty business.

the stuttering is really PISSING ME OFF...i went from the game playing as smooth as butter to ABSOLUTELY MUDCRAB! this is some ploy to convert people who loved F04 who hated Fallout76 back to 76...Hell no we won't go!

I really do not understand what anybody thought BGS was actually doing with this. It is all just a play off the Amazon show we got their attention now lets update the game and break the whole f*cking thing again.

They already had an enclave mod this is Sabotage cause they are pissed off that they are tanking as a gaming company.

There is NO SINGLE benefit using this update on PC. I've fixed all issues with mods in the past, like "Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch" or "High FPS Physics Fix". So DO NOT UPDATE ON PC!

Turn off weapon debris. It's a bug on RTX cards. there is a mod to fix this, BUT it requires F4SE that is now borked...

On series x here. Went from silky smooth to stuttering constantly everywhere. They need to put it back like it was. Why Bethesda Why.

They completely fucked modding on PC. I'm pissed.

It blows my mind that this patch was pushed to PC. It breaks the previous 144hz 60fps fix requiring users to enable windowed borderless. Even then the 16:9 1080 resolution isn't in the settings requiring an .ini file edit to force 1080p! And it doesn't even fix the weapon debris RTX crash!!! (If you are running on PC with an RTX card disable 'weapon debris' or your game will crash consistently)

If you have having issues with the FPS being capped to the physics i was able to fix this by Using the NVIDIA Control Panel > 3d settings > Program settings > add fallout4launcher.exe > set max framerate to 144 FPS (my monitors refresh rate) i still feel like there is a TINY bit of overlap in dialogue in overlap but i mean it is what it is, more than playable. Also had a driver update, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Disable bullet debris if you play with Nvidia cards. An issue since launch apparently, it will cause a ton of ctd moments

I personally have an issue that is a bit difficult to explain. You know how certain HUD elements have a bright "foreground" with letters and compass symbols and stuff, alongside a dark green "background" to it? For some reason, the background is either "squished" or moved slightly offcenter. The title screen's backgrounds are offcenter, but the character creation and compass are squished. If I had to take a wild guess, it's because the HUD backgrounds are all being squished toward the center of the screen, it just looks like some are offcenter *because* they are in the corner by default. Maybe something to do with the screen resolution on a 1366x768 monitor with borderless windowed settings enabled. I also may have tweaked some things in the files to fix an issue before the patch, probably the taskbar appearing during fullscreen gameplay, but I am unsure.

As of now, my game only crashes on pc when I try to go to pause/save menu...boom! Straight to desktop.

On series X the makeshift pack that is supposed to add weapons - it brings invisible weapons that shoots red exclamation marks. On pc with my rtx 4090 rig, I always run max at 4k usually 144fps even with 100s of mods and reshade and enb. With this update however it is down to 40fps, with no mods and enb and reshade off.

Brand new PC, 14900KF, RTX 4070, 32GB mem, fresh new installation, next gen update: crash upon running to the vault. Every single time. Great job. Bethesda! I was eager to play again after few years, you've managed to kill and bury my will to do so in a matter of 24 hours. Thanks a lot

i made it futher, i started destroying sanctury, but none of my dlcs will register even though they are downloaded

I naturally started a new game. Few hours in. So far so good. No wide screen tho, just the regular set up.

No crashing here, also no mods in use.

I have major lagging issues after I skipped the next bs update with the mod "STEAM - Skip Next-Gen update" on nexus (to save my modlist). Now on my last save Fallout 4 freezes all 3 seconds after a while ingame, very annonying. I see no way to find the cause or a fix besides redownload, reinstall and restart all over again. Same issue for Skyrim SE, where Bugthesda also crushed my Modlist with another useless garbage Update.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Bethesda did this to fallout 4 to send everyone back over to 76. after all these years and they still can’t get it right. My game looked better and played better only a few days ago. I’m playing on an Xbox series X my game stutters freezes and has crashed a few times it did none of this the last few days I was playing.

i see all these comments about how bad it is and all the problems......i don't have an issue at all. You can change everything to match your system. Change your pc settings......not sure why folks are crashing but i have had no issues. I looked at my resolutions and changed my game setting to fit my pc. have not crashed once or had any issues since i changed the settings to match my pc and monitor settings.

I can’t even launch my game so you are doing far better than me. I guess I should disable all my mods? Will try that and see if it will at least launch. This is terrible. They should be ashamed!!!!!!😢

They still didnt fix the invisible lock pick screen bug. That literally changes how you play the game.

I'm out here still looking for a solution to all the problems the last update caused... PS4 unmodded seems to be working fine... Xbox One cant load any mods at all. Its greyed out. Tried editing my community share options but still can't manage or use any mods... PC is completely fucked. I couldn't load my game so I tried starting a new one and got stuck on an infinite loading screen... tried deleting all mods and I STILL can't start a new game. The only conclusion I can come to is that Bethesda just don't test ANYTHING (Starfield 😐) before releasing it...

I had to downgrade back to fallout 4 1.10.163. This is a stable version and modding works fine. Any newer version is unplayable. Just Wow, Do not get the Next Gen Update it is pure garbage, Crashes all the time, Fps stutters and No Mods support. "Not Next Gen"

The update was absolutely fine for me, when I was able to downgrade back to the previous version. Thankfully Steam is now disabled from automagically downloading it again. I am somewhat occupied getting my mods sorted, but all will be good at some point. That took, still is, a lot of work that should not have needed to happen. Perhaps it will get to the point where, for the PC, the update might actually be meaningful, or at least the mods will have caught up with updates. But, putting aside the biggy, about the London overhaul, I can imagine that there will be many casualties due to this updates with some content creators, modders, no longer updating their mods. I can't see it ending either, not for a while, Bethesda will probably patch their update a couple of times to try and resolve the issues with the update.....I can guess how that will go...! Hence stopping Steam from updating and continuing with the previous build.

I’m stuck at 30 fps. Editing files doesn’t work. Now mods don’t work, it’s just a frustrating joke at this point. They broke more than anything they added, Bethesda is just a clown show now. They announced this a good time ago, what happened? No testing… no caring?

So, I had problems when updating, I would only get 55fps and the game stuttered as hell, it was unplayable which made me wonder since my pc specs are quite up to date. Which got me thinking: what fixed it for me was to uninstall the game through steam Then delete the fallout 4 folder in my documents and also deleted the fallout 4 folder in app data „your username“ then in the local folder there should also be a fallout 4 folder. I deleted that as well, then reinstalled the game. And now I can run the game at a constant 82 fps with ultra settings at my native resolution 2560x1440p (my guess is that I only have a gsync compatible monitor at 165 hz) no stutter and no crashes. Played the whole day without crashes. I’m not saying that this works for everyone, but at least this worked for me. Might give it a try.

One of the main missions on my Xbox s glitched also can’t continue my progress as the mission can’t be completed. Problems for all media’s

I found that if you disable weapon debris on PC it will fix the crashing issues. however, the UI for ultrawide is stretched, fps is still locked. There is no FOV slider, mouse input delay/drag. The new content is missing textures. Just a big mess. I bought the game launch day years ago and it's running worse now than it did over 9 years ago.

I haven't had an issue yet but I'm only 13 hours into the game before the update. Amazingly no crashes since though but there's always time.

and now my fps is capped at 30 DAMN FPS

I had 150+ mods on pc and no problems and now I cant even launch the game without mods.Nice job Bethesda

I mean I’m playing on pc and ps5 simultaneously and they both work fine for me…

They obiously are waiting for the modders to fix the rest.

My game instantly cuts off my speaker’s audio every time now. I get a black screen sometimes, sometimes it freezes my entire pc, and sometimes i get the invisible box glitch where i cant move my mouse cursor out of an invisible box in the center of the screen

Last gen console here. I cant even get into the mod menu on startup. It just does the old classic bethesda magic and CTD.

Try to switch in windows settings for F4 app to utilize your graphic card and not CPU to work.

Game has been playable in Ultra wide from the start. You just had to change resolution in .ini file to get it working. UI obviously did not scale at all. The thing is that amazes me the most is that it points out the fact that they just included new resolutions to the dropdown menu. Just that. Nothing more nothing less.

My game doesnt crash, it just sticks my mouse in the top left corner of the screen when I windows-D

Am I the only one not having issues and I’m playing on a laptop?

So I was playing on my original 2014 Xbox 1 because of having a toddler and not wanting my laptop fan on and it ran fine on there with mods such as sim settlements 2 chapter 1 and a handful of others (I know it didn't get the same update) but today re installed on my PC and loaded up an old save from inside the vault and so far after about 15 minutes haven't had it crash once. Now I haven't tried any mods but I was able to click into the mods menu through the game but didn't try any. Not sure if these, or any of the nexus mods (that don't require script extender) will work but plan on testing that as well. Now I don't know what fps I'm getting or anything cause I haven't checked but as far as at least running vanilla game it seems to be working decent and I only have a 3060 predator Triton 300 laptop.

its seems to be working well but in few mins it crash to exit, that means no stable version yet, so maybe can be fixed still, something isnt quite configured on settings or inis files...

wtf happened to the game, I played it fine many years ago now coming back to it and I'm not joking when I say it is literally unplayable I've got 2hr game time and crashed 10 times.

i can't shoot my guns unless i use V.A.T.S. and it crashes a lot more.

I had a problem with my Fallout 4 from Steam to launch. It just would not start. I figured out how to fix it.🛠🛠 1. Set the Steam app to run in Admin mode. 2. You are missing an important dll. I found that the vcruntime140_1.dll was missing from my build. It is located in C:/Windows/System32. Copy the vcruntime140_1_clr0400.dll and rename the copy to be the vcruntime140_1.dll Put one copy in the same folder and one in the C:/Windows/SysWOW64 folder. Yes you want Steam to be able to make changes, and you will get an error message you can bypass. The game will run fine after that.

Dermit i feel all of ure pain. i started playing it 4 month ago, and what a game it is (was). i play it vanilla, havent moded it. i was kind of lucky, i disabled auto update in steam as soon ad i heard the problems ticking in. And i take out the network cable when i launch Fall out 4.

b4 update zero lag no ctds all mods working beautifully except conqueror. now i have conqueror and a ton of lag from the encounters mod. something that was well ironed out b4 this update. alot of mods like the bramble one doesn't even work it ctd my mod menu and so does the deadly brotherhood mod you select it CRASH WTF!

ive been play for 4hrs not a single crash i have no mods on, so for me so far so good. i think for people who have mods its crashing which is not good mods make the game more fun. I worry for fallout 5 and the next elder scrolls

"Next Gen Update" it doesn't really look any better, I was expecting the apes to upgrade to the still poor Starfield engine - it's all the same game anyway. I can't load my saves, and I'm not sure I want to start again. Awful update, not even a proper thing. I was expecting DLSS and Raytracing as a minimum, but nope, not even that. All it seems to be is another texture update. I feel like consoles got more than PC players here...

I didnt remember but there is setting in laucher If you disable or lower than it will be fix I guess bullet hole or something like that option

Next Gen update just broke the game on PC. Game crashes after 3-5 min. Fresh install, no mods, new game and crash... Thanks to Bethesda for killing the game...

I cant play the game anymore. The next gen update requires more than my pc can handle. Now i need to upgrade my pc to play. Im done buying for the same game

Im not get any issues, fresh installed, modern pc setup, Ultra screen + Ultra all setup, close 165-180 fps in game, no crash, game looks amazing, especially mirrors and lights reflects on glases, rifle weapons etc. Not tested with mods yet.

i'm playing on ps4 that didn't get a 4k update, just the content, and 'bug' fixes. i'm still getting the random crashes. i haven't gone to nuka world yet to see if the constant crashes are there

Pissed I had to mod my game twice and three times if you count my xbox too all in 2 weeks.

Mine crashed almost immediately from a save file. I'm her broken, so much progress, and I can't get it to stabilize.

Maybe you should try playing it on a Commodore 64.

what A NIGHTMARE

Can't even get pass the first few quests. When i talk to npcs they don't respond so i cant progress the storyline. Preston and danse a couple of examples

I switched off G-Sync on RTX 3090 and stop crushing

I can't open my mods in the game. So the mods I have installed are still enable and I can't try them off.

Now my VATS is bugged. jumps from 95% to 0% outside. I can also VATS people in buildings without the perk, so can't actually hit them. X-box Ser.X game-pass vanilla, no mods. Nice forced glitch updates; Bethesda... Bethesda never changes.

i can't even start a new save: i got mods with vortex for example.. it always worked.. and now i just start fallout 4 with vortex and i get infinite loading on the main menu lol

I swear they not only did this to Cash in on the Game one last time but also to Spite the Modding Community. They did the SAME exact thing with Skyrim. Breaks the Game for anyone that took the time to Patch & Mod the Game on their own to improve the experience has just been crapped on again by Bethesda. I had Skyrim Modded perfectly & they release an Update I didnt want or need & broke it. I lost interest in reinstalling it & remodding it from scratch, I may never play Skyrim again. The SAME thing done AGAIN with Fallout 4.... Makes me want to Vomit & right now as it stands I may never Play Fallout 4 again either. F U Bethesda

Im not sure this has to do with the update, but i bought 500 credits for the creation club, bought some stuff and i cant download the damn things because it says "the operation could not be completed". What a waste of 8 buckaroos.

Well at least you can start the game I guess 🤷 my window pops up for about 3 seconds and closes. Tried everything but it's ruined the game completely
