The Media is all about Will Smith. While I see the comments overwhelmingly talking about how Chris Rock kept his cool and remained a professional. The Media is covering the wrong story. Chris Rock can take a punch. Will Smith can't take a joke.
He physically assaulted someone in front of an international audience of tens of millions. Yet was latter given a standing ovation and an award. The Academy has lost all credibility in regards to condemning violence
When you love someone, you’re sad when you see sadness in his eyes. You want to hit the person who provoked this sadness.. We cannot blame him to be a human.. his emotions were too strong to be controlled, that’s all..
It was the look of glee on Wills face when he returned to his seat that told me he was reacting out of insecurity. Chris is the real man. He rose above it and de escalated it and saved the rest of the awards.
@@wickandwax nah.. Will got to man-up and take a joke. He embarrassed US. If he can’t handle a joke, don’t go to events with comedians. My outlook on Will Smith has DRASTICALLY CHANGED, due to his immaturity and insecurity
What do you think about the comment that this was probably being a healing moment for Will? Like when that one person was talking about how he witnessed abuse as a child and felt guilt for not standing up how that may have explained why he did what he did. I thought it was a dumb comment simply because you don't get to "heal" or have a "healing moment" at the expense of others. If anything, he created more of that which he may have felt traumatized as a child.
That was not an apology, that was a carefully written statement by your publicist. You slap a person in front of millions in live international TV... That is how you are supposed to apologized, live in front of millions and directly to the person you assaulted, and with not "but" or an ounce of justification. no an Instagram post that is there more to try to do damage control to your career.
Ok, let's go there. I think slapping people is wrong. I think ridiculing people for a medical condition is wrong. For whatever reason, let's say *you* slap someone in that situation. You realize that that was inappropiate, you're remorseful, and you phrase a genuinely remorseful apology. My question to you is: How does *your* sincere apology differ? I ask, because, frankly, I would probably have phrased it similarly. Does that mean his was sincere, or that it came from his own independent thinking? Who knows? I don't. You don't. The word "projecting" comes instantly to mind.
@@patricksweeney6334 A sincere apology does not come from a carefully written statement from your publicist, He should have apologized to Chris directly without any public statement. But it is too late for that too much time has passed and still not apology to Chris. This should have been shut down the same day, but everything Will Smith did afterwards was a publicist nightmare.
@@luisvillar8320 Again. Objectivity is a wondeful thing. I wasn't there when the writer of the apology wrote it. It legitimately sounded like one I would have written had I engaged in the same behavior (though I wouldn't have slapped anyone myself) and had felt remorse for my action (which I would have, if I had committed that human emotion-driven error). So... if you were there for the writing of that apology... I'll defer to your *knowledge*. If not... I trust that you'll acknowledge that you're just spouting opinion.
@@patricksweeney6334 I thank you for your well thought out point and your are right neither you or me was present when Will Smith allegedly wrote a heartfelt apology to Chris Rock all by himself, having said that I lived in Los Angeles for 10 years and know something about how the business works and in a high stakes moment like this an artist under fire would never be allowed to make public statements that are not written by public relations experts or at least be approved by them after some minor or major editing. Will Smith actions show that he is in a bad place now and probably is still to a point in denial of any wrong doing or at least that he has justification for a bad action (my opinion). This is why highly paid "fixers" exist in the industry and it is the correct thing to do. The stress and pressure on Will Smith right now is so overwhelming I don't think he is thinking straight given all the people around him that want to defend and protect him. I hope that in the end something good can be gain from lessons learned.
Totally agree and if Chris doesn't want to see him right now that is understandable but he should reach out to Chris an attempt to setup a face to face apology. That social media apology is bullshit!
Will assaults Chris and everyone's wondering if Wills ok, if Wills alright, what Wills thinking. NO ONES reaching out to Chris asking him ( the person that was assaulted ) if he's OK. Unreal.
I don't get it either. Everyone has all of this empathy for Will Smith and literally no one is talking about Chris Rock. I think he's got a lot of issues and people in Hollywood know about it and the rest of us don't. Someone on a talk show said yesterday that he snapped after months of jokes about his marriage...well what goes on between a husband and wife is private until they both go on TV and talk about their marriage over and over again. What on earth did they expect to happen?
@@nancytoppin7701 oh I know alllll about his marriage. Jada has been getting hers. Non the less your gonna slap Chris because of your bottled up emotions of a loveless marriage. Gtfoh

The second assault was from all the people running the show (producer, Academy “officials”, security, etc). They allowed Smith to sit there in the front row after they saw him assault someone. Even more disgusting. The third assault was by every single person who stood up and cheered when Smith won the award. You people are disgusting and it’s SHAMEFUL that everyone didn’t come to Chris’ defense and aid.

Yeah, that was what grabbed me the most was Jaden's response to it. Smith can say all he wants that he was embarrassed about what he did at the Oscars, but he's had 23 years to raise his son to know better.
It's ironic and sad how Smith's alleged apology was more about being a victim of Hollywood, where people talk and he's aware of these social media comments
This whole thing was not about "protecting his wife's honor," as Will said. It was about saving face with his wife! Chris told the joke, Will was mouth-wide laughing at it, he saw Jada wasn't laughing but she saw him laughing, he then realized he was in trouble with her because of it, and THEN took the wrong action and slapped Chris. I completely agree, she should have reacted like a lady and smile, not prompt her husband to react. Most people do not know she had a hair condition, she is not that important or well known, why should people know her life??. I thought she shaved her head just to look different, she looks great!!

Nice to see that the Academy is as "with the times" as ever. Good to know how all that anti-workplace harassment and anti-workplace violence training has paid off. Apologizing by posting on Instagram is not an apology. Smith slapped Rock on stage in front of a huge international TV audience . The apology should be delivered the same way.
He didn't write that apology. His people did it for him. He probably has a serious drug addiction or he may use that as an excuse. What else makes someone act that crazy way?
He actually made Chris look good. Chris must have known Will was having a meltdown Chris was awesome. Will could have made that his moment and leave Chris to look bad but he didn’t.

It's funny how they speak about Smith's experiences of domestic violence as a child while he is the perpetrator but do not speak of how Rock was bullied as a child and how much this is probably affecting him psychologically as he is now a grown man and still experiences such bullying on stage in front of the whole world..... How surreal was it? That he violently assaulted a man. Then kept up the aggression so loudly and verbally, added to it, reinforced it. He then receives an Oscar, positions and indulges himself as a vessel for his people, almost as a civil rights leader, with his speech. Subsequently he dances the night away, award in hand, as if nothing had happened. As if the world, our world is, is HIS world. And lets not forget here - he did take many with him on the night. Those people around him that danced with him and celebrated, celebrated him. And the Academy too, that on this very night let him get away with it. He was allowed to stay in the theater and got presented with their prize. All this coming right AFTER his violent behavior and acts. Now he's allowed to play a new role, the role of victim - and so soon after these acts, this ugly spectacle and ugly go-along. Celebrities and their bizarre place in our culture - it all makes me sick. Because it is sick.

@CrazyLegsMcGee you point out the obvious. So do i, again, 2 wongs dont make a right. Chris hasn't publicly said he didn't know about her condition. Which would show the "light heartedly intention". Until he does, it was a low blow, not a light hearted joke.

Exactly. Will Assaults Chris. Then I read 40 minutes later he still gets to be awarded an Oscar. If Smith was thrown out for assaulting, then he would not have been able to get an award. Plus aren't their Academy by-laws that would disqualify Smith after attacking someone. Where is the backbone of the Academy to actually abide by their laws or are they spineless like what Jim Carrey said. Academy makes up laws, but then just doesn't use them because it would hurt actor's feelings for punishing that actor for assault.
The black lady was clear when she bristled at taking away his Oscar and said it “would leave a bad taste in alot of people’s mouth”. Basically she means DON’T take a black man’s Oscar away or we will burn down your cities - again. The Privilege is real but it ain’t white.
The incident was rehearsed and done under the invisible hand of the Academy. If someone was actually assaulted in a massive public space while being broadcasted on Television, its beyond the victims control to say if they would like to press charges or not. Someone just broke a pretty serious law on television for crying out loud. The stunt the Oscars/The Academy/ABC/Disney pulled was out of the WWE textbook.
there WAS a lot of time to deal with this before the next Oscar was being presented. If this was a man hitting a woman onstage they would have immediately dealt with this as an assault. As a journalist myself, this was one of the most uninformed and incompetent segments I've seen on this subject. The idea that both of these panelists sounded like they were making excuses for what happened is shameful. Smith and his wife are both well-known public figures, and are subject to public commentary as any such person is. The laws on physical assault in California are clear, and such is what people witnessed on live television on Sunday. Why hasn't there been an arrest? The Academy should, in fact, consider revoking Smith's Award to send a clear message that such antics will not be tolerated.
How not to apologize. a) Starting with rationalizing why you did the thing you are apologizing for. b) Continue talking about yourself for most of the apology. c) End by apologizing to people who were indirectly affected by the action.

He ruined a night poised to honor his achievements, but he instead chose to show us himself. I hope Will finds a way back into a better light, but he needs an apology and self-deprecating tour first. I mean, the Oscars gave your man more than 5-minutes on stage to apologize to Chris and he made it about himself and apologized to everyone but the person he assaulted. What a jerk.
@@rachelgreen4510 Can you imagine what the Will Smith of the Fresh Prince-era would think if he had a son who wanted to wear dresses or an adulteress for a wife or a science fiction cult for a church? Something tells me the pre-Jada Will Smith would not recognize the current Will Smith.
His award should be taken away! He did the action at the Academy's event, which they are responsible for, and on live tv where millions of people witnessed it.
It wasn't even an insult. Chis says "Jada, I love you" then compares her to G.I. Jane...who is a badass, heroic character! I don't think anyone, including Chris, would disagree that Jada looks gorgeous and is rocking her appearance. My sense of what happened...there's Will with that big toothy laughing coming out his mouth, the camera cut away and he made eye contact with her and realized he was in deep shite unless he pulled a super-simp. If the slap wasn't enough, that self edifying blathar about being a vessel of love and shining white light should have been, but there will always be apologists who admire and lust after this sort of trashy behavior. That standing ovation he got was really the most troubling thing about this, to me. I just watched Will on an old episode of Arsenio, directing a bald joke at one of the band members, getting booed by the audience and then responding with "It's just jokes!" Such a hypocrite and WEAK individual to pull this crap in the middle of a TV show so that his target will look bad if they respond similarly.
Will Smith ruined the Oscars for me forever. The fact that he was able to receive an Oscar after assaulting someone is unforgivable. The standing ovation was sickening to say the least. I'm done with Will Smith!!
I find everybody stupid when they know that he is doing it for is wife when she have medical conditions. We all need to forgive him for his actions because he is trying to do is right when people messed with the wrong person.
it's totally fine to make fun of men with genetic hairloss and discriminate them but if you make a joke about a multimillionaire female, its worth getting in to fight over?
Making fun of a women going bald is unacceptable, ( I'm not a very sensitive person ) The same joke for a man is exceeptable. In the military men get a buzz cut but females aren't required to , why you think that is ?
As a bald man who went bald in my early 20s it wasn't fun listening to people make fun of me but i got over it. She could have wore a wig if she didn't want her lose of hair to be noticed. Almost a narcissist outlook as she expects everyone to know what is going on with her life.
You're absolutely correct, and she's famous, she should be able to take hits. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J7u9_z7ZSnk.html Also, look at this, Will is such a hypocrite
I think a truly humbled person wouldn’t say a thing about her alopecia to the general public , she may say something to her friends and family. But overall - I would have gone-ok, I don’t have hair. I need to accept this. I am healthy regardless of it, praise God.
@@Joyfulminimalist who knew she had something wrong with her? She expects everyone to know it and wanted sympathy as she sat in the front row of a live tv. You feel sorrow for her makes my point. Why no empathy for men?
@@MrDan11422 I think you’re getting confused, I was agreeing with you. I can’t speak for how men feel, I don’t know what baldness feels like for men! Personally, I have tons of hair, but my faith makes me-not my outer appearance.
I've noticed that, the more time that passes, the more disturbing I find his actions. He humiliated his former friend... he embarrassed himself in front of the world. It's just awful... I am ashamed for him. Gotta say - I love Chris Rock! I used to like Wills' work too, but I don't think I'll get over this. I find it traumatic on so many levels. And his apology was BS too - he excused his actions in his apology. Dude needs some serious help.... and I'm not joking or trying to put him down. I honestly believe this.
His apology was 100% performative and for optics. If he meant it, it wouldn't have taken him till the next day to do it. And if he really meant it, he would have done it in person.
@@albertguillen9599 Its all Jada's fault he's losing his sh*t IMO... Shes an ugly person inside and out i think.... I used to like her but shes become so selfish and narcissist... and shes proving to be toxic to her family i feel... Will should just kick her ass to the curb but... Its not for me or anyone to fully judge ... This is just my opinion... That joke was funny tho... Chris Rock is a good guy... Lol...
I find it amazing that at a time where people are still dying in a senseless war, people still make such a big deal out of what is essentially a clownish dispute, which might as well have been staged. It's incredible how far human stupidity goes with triggering. Is it bad that he went up and slapped? Sure, I wouldn't have done that. WHY is it such a big deal? I got spit on by another kid when I was in 6th grade, for pointing out a mistake, and somewhat physically assaulted. No one bothered to correct it. It was ok that I didn't get injured in any way other than obsessing over it a few times. Why make such a big fuss if someone gets slapped at the Oscars? Because humans care about nonsense.
What I have a hard time understanding is that Will Smith was laughing at the joke but, when he looked at Jayda and saw her upset only then did he do the unthinkable on live TV...I have much admiration and respect for Chris Rock and wish he and his family can heal from this atrocity
"Violence in all forms is inexcusable BUT.." No sir there is no but. That was a half assed apology just to cover his reputation. If the joke was in such poor taste why was he seen laughing at it?
Bcoz in this world you pretend to smile despite of what you go through. He got along the joke but when he sees Jada. That went downhill and snap. Heres a video when a man snap ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-13yocScIdjQ.html
CHRIS ROCK POT SONG ?? I got out my pipe stuffed it with pot You better believe it held a whole lot. I whipped out a lighter thumbed up a flame Sucked down that smoke which comforts my brain. I tried alcohol smoked cigarettes They did nothing but give me regrets. My mom had arthritis could not walk around I rolled her a joint she danced on the ground. I thought I was losing my lovemaking knack After I smoked some to me it came back. Soon I decided prices were high I searched for some ground I wouldn't have to buy. I bargained for seeds from smokers all around Got in my truck and drove out of town. I walked through the woods where wild birds nest Found me the meadow I thought was the best. I dug up the ground sowed all my seeds Said a small prayer for strong, healthy weeds. I watered at night with a five-gallon pail Mosquitoes went hungry for I wore a veil. Seven months went by; I thought I would die Till the Halloween moon was high in the sky. At night I went out, in a camouflage suit Used my corn knife to chop down the loot. I hung it up to dry where it couldn’t be found. Came back and got it, when it had turned brown. I trimmed off the buds, stuffed them in bags Called all my friends and passed out free drags. In less than a week my crop was gone I flew to St. Thomas with a love hungry blonde!! By Kansas City Poet Tom Zart Google = Most Published Poet On The Web Tom’s 1,650 Poems Are Free To Share!
