It does take on some creative liberties here and there, but overall? It's on point in the sound department, and the attention to getting everything to look right is phenomenal. The only two things that gets me is the BoS essentially be8ng the F4 variant, despite it being set on the west coast, and ghouls needing some kind of radiation drug. But other than that? It's pretty dang good.
@@terryhiggins5077 We do know some turn feral, but haven't had details before. So once it starts I see it as dementia / Alzheimer's you have your moments when you are truly you then you go away and come back less and less till you don't. So once the process starts this drug is the way they keep themselves sane... but probably doesn't work long term.
I know, it’s like she was telling you where she put her first skill points. Perception, intelligence, agility and points into automatic weapons and pistols.
They got the lore SO right. The sounds, the objects, even the perks and the way gamers experience the game. And they created a BAMF Ghoul who owns the spotlight.
This show ended up being way better than my wife and I as huge Fallout fans had hoped, and the fact that they made an original story set in the Fallout universe rather than try and adapt one of the games line-by-line really was a smart idea - it avoids the direct comparisons and also gives fans something new to experience. The executive producer, Jonathan Nolan (creator of Westworld, brother of Christopher Nolan), and the lead writer, Graham Wagner, are huge Fallout fans and their enthusiasm really shows in the finished product - they also did as much practically without CGI as they could, including building a 2 story vault set. Regarding Todd Howard, he was mostly hands off and served mostly as "lore keeper" whenever folks had any questions about timelines or accuracy of stuff and to make sure they didn't conflict with the upcoming Fallout 5.
The guy calling him a pinko doesn't mean he's a communist; it just means he was accused and his career went to hell. Happened to a lot of actors in the 50s.
Lol yes I thought it was funny how the reactors thought he was communist. However being that the basic look of the Fallout world and tech looks like the 50s, but it is actually in the far future. I was always confused about the 1950s look of the beginning of the games, always felt like the bombs were dropped in the 1950s. Then the game took place in the far future. Fallout 4 takes place in the year 2287, ten years after the events of Fallout 3. Fallout 4's story begins on the day the bombs dropped: October 23, 2077.
Went into this series with low expectations and wound up adoring it, there is so much love and care put into the visuals and the writing, even the sense of humor is faithful to the source material.
"I have been unable to find a suitable marriage partner, at least one I'm not" pauses and talks about how she is hot and how couldn't she find a partner and is oblivious to the fact that she ended that sentence with "related to."
The year is 2077. In the Fallout universe, they never invented the microprocessor. Instead, they advanced nuclear energy. That and the fact that they aesthetically appear to be in the 1950s makes it a retro futuristic world.
The core tenants of The Brotherhood of Steel are actually admirable. It's corruption among some of the upper ranks and zealousness that cause them to be problematic.
They want to kill escaped innocent synths beside the ones that immediately atack you and non feral ghouls, Supermutants okay exept for a few in Fallout 3, New Vegas and Strong and Virgil in 4.
OMG I'm so happy your watching it! I know your a major Fallout fan also. I'm halfway through the season and it just gets better and better. So many refrences and tiny details. And of course Fallout fans know every song that plays. Assuming they didn't do the weird thing of turning off music on the Pipboy. lol. I gave the series so far a 9.0 out of 10. Probably the best game adaption ever. I've got a shelf with Fallout merch. Including 200 caps. :D
So alot of people say not to pull out the knife which yes is true since it blocks the blood from flowing out of you. But in this case its the write choice. The dont pull it out is meant for if your staying in placeing waiting for help to come. If you walk with a knife in your side theres a huge chance you cause worse damage to your self and even make a nob lethal stab lethal as moving around might name the jnife hit skmething vital.
It's funny I've never played any fallout games but I immediately recognized the stim pack/med kit/healing potion mechanic being brought into the show. So fantastic.
I've only played Shelter and not knowing most of the lore, I'm glad I watched the whole season before coming to this reaction, because there's tonnes of context I wouldn't have had / spoilers for the finale.
Part that I thought was super cool: Some of the articles I read said that this show is supposed to take place right after Fallout 4. At the end of FO4, I could have sworn the Brotherhood people said they were taking the airship back to the west coast. This show starts, and the brotherhood is talking about how their brothers are returning from the Commonwealth, then the airship shows up.
The airship in Fallout 4 is the Prydwin. This airship in this show is the Caswennan. I suspect this was built from the remains of the Prydwin due to what Caswennan means(it's the bank Arthur crashed his ship upon.)
I've always been under the impression that the "future" shown throughout the franchise is how someone in 1955 would have imagined the future at that time. Just the same as how the steampunk genre is the way someone in the late 19th century might have imagined the future. The average person would have only known about the power of the atom for about 10 years. All the magazine articles and TV shows proclaimed it as "the power source of the future" and talked about how it was going to revolutionize society as they knew it, hence all the atomic cars and trucks they imagined would be common in 100 years. Though I've always found it ironic that while they may have figured out how to give a vehicle a lifetime supply of "fuel" they still came up with a design that depended on getting regular fill ups of "coolant" at your local Red Rocket.
That basicaly is that. They use atomic energy and didnt discovered transistors because they didnt needed to. They have nuclear fusion. So everything is still going on vacuum tubes. And that is why most of the things are like that. Ilove Atompunk of Fallout.
yea, a lot of the "world of tomorrow" style stuff from different eras of the 1900's usually imagined the aesthetics of the time with some imagined new technologies.
Tim Cain (credited as the OG creator of the franchise) approved the first two episodes from being at the premier, that was enough for me. He has game dev stories here on youtube as well as other takes and stories.
He also has a video addressing criticisms by people who think the show retcons everything. He disagrees, going into unreliable narrators and the fact that even players often run into "untrue statements" in the games as well as open ended games, which ending becomes "canon"
The CG is really well done in most all of it. Though I think what really makes the show feel more real is just how much stuff is pracitcal. Unlike a certain Borderlands movie coming out this year which is mainly CGI and looks awful.
28:30 - Maxson's Brotherhood is extremely xenophobic, among other things, he is a ruthless leader and lacks the kindness that his mentor Elder Lyons had. Lyons' Brotherhood in Fallout 3 was the good guys in the whole story, meanwhile the other sects look down on wastelanders.
He becoming one of my fav actors from justified to this, he pretty good all round actor, i seen him other roles as well which are pretty good too like antman and wasp
@@clintbrew I first saw him in American Ultra but Justified is what made me want to see him in more roles. He's a very expressionate actor and he delivers everything so genuinely it feels like reality at times as if I were there in the room as the scene took place.
Same here, i've played all the Fallouts except 76, and Fallout:Tactics. Some of the best gaming experiences in that franchise. But i think the premise is that cold fusion was realized by the 1950s and powers a lot of things, like the futuristic-looking cars .. alongside, of course, the nuclear obsession.
So stunned with how this turned out, and how you can get the vibe of each game throughout the show. Amazingly faithful for us fans, and grabbing new fans for the show itself. Wonder if we are going to get some busy 76 servers for a while
I have been playing 76 since beta. You should give it another try. It is a vastly different game from when it was released, and really a great gaming community. Getting a map expansion here very very soon 😃
It's nice to see a fan of the games who knows his stuff at least from the Bethesda era reacting. This takes place of course in California so the older history from Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas are in effect but, there's a few nods and pieces of stuff from the East Coast around to spice things up.
Jonathan Nolan is the showrunner. He's the brother of Christopher Nolan and has co-wrote many things as well as being the creator (and writer) of Westworld...which I'd be curious to see you do a reaction for someday.
Start your character at 7 Luck and as you level up increase it to 10 with the perk that let's you increase it. 10 luck build while collecting all the armor and weapons that have critical hit bonuses. And of course all the perks that revolve around luck and crits. You can clean house at all the casinos with 10 luck and be rich. If you get 75 lockpicking you can snag a unique .357 pistol in Primm called Lucky very early too. Increases luck while equipped.
The main deviation from the real world and fallout is that in fallout the transistor wasn’t invented. Strong start for the show. The music and environment was on point.
I am loving the series and although I never played the games myself (I may be changing that in the future...), I did watch both my dad and my husband play them for hours on end. Ghouls are made from excessive exposure to radiation. Feral ghouls become so when their brains/bodies become so irradiated that they lose their humanity and become creatures of pure instinct. So it goes from human to ghoul to feral ghoul. You can see above the grave of the ghoul in this story he has 2 IV bags with orange medicine going into the ground. That serum is to help stabilize him and prevent him from going feral.
I loved in your post recap how you talk about purchasing Skyrim and fallout games multiple times. My girlfriend and myself did a count the other day. Between us we have bought Skyrim 11 times, Fallout 3 4 times, fallout 4 4 times and New Vegas 2 times.
INTELLEGENCE!?!? now i know your trippin!! AGLITY & LUCK MAXED RIGHT OUT THE GATE!!!! sneaky sneaky, stabby stabby is the only way!! For real though, was surprised your a legit fallout fan, watching you geek out made this reaction so good!! keep em coming brother!!
The collector's edition of Fallout 4 came with a physical pip-boy you could put your phone in and strap to your wrist. If I recall correctly, there was an app that you could use and link it to your game, but it might have just been a map, unlinked.
I never played the games, but I just finished the series last night and it’s phenomenal. I was surprised at how layered and complex the story is. Definitely can’t wait for the next season 👍
Huge fallout nerd here, theres a few retcons and such in the show, and a few things that were explained that I hoped would forever stay ambiguous in the Fallout universe, but overall this show is awesome and doesnt mess with the story anymore than Bethesda has since Fallout 3
76 is way better than when it first came out, and free to download and play through April 18th. Also they are releasing a next gen update, with new DLC, for Fallout 4 this week.
In some ways, that beginning (well, ending) with the family party and everyone just going their merry way ignoring the protagonist is reminescent of how (non quest-giving) NPCs act in computer RPGs... lol
@@Evan-k I mean.. Oxhorn probably has that, unless we've all forgiven him? (I was underneath my rock, before that we were pulling out his BS about retcons & mods that affected New Vegas to point of believing his own BS).
@@punkdallas1646 I don't know who or what Oxhorn is or who Mr Mattyplays is, but so what? Obviously not every single person dislikes them.. Everyone who knows what a money hungry prick Todd is does not like him. And since it's obvious that he's a money hungry prick, that means most people dislike him.
Great reaction sir, I would like to recommend the show Justified, starring Timothy olyphant and Walton goggins, who played the ghoul in this show. Sort of a modern Western. Thank you for your content.
Fallout 76 is now good and has a great community. Worth checking out. I've watched the whole show and was deeply impressed with how well they captured the look and feel of the games--and pleasantly surprised by the story and acting. (Also, the sound design is outstanding.)
So like the belt clip phone holder but a wrist strapped Pip Boy that you just snap the ol phone onto and it clicks into place? Like a life proof case? Patent it or I’m sure Amazon has it. Then you can safely walk around NYC on your phone. Unless they snatch your whole arm. But then some tech will be invented to read people’s info from the iPhone somehow. If you invented both you’d be a very rich man or woman.
The setup of this show reminds me of that old show Jericho but nukes went off here and there but nobody had to hide in vaults they just kept trying to survive and no time jump you just find out more about what happened and people trying to survive each other no mutants lol
If I knew you were a Fallout fan I would have sought your react videoes out sooner. Now I have to bing. Love you know the things, the Fallout language.
Man, you gotta go back and play the Classics from Interplay! Fallout 1 was REVOLUTIONARY. During a time when the biggest computer games were 60-100 MB's, Fallout was over 700.
I'm also a fan since fallout 3 as it was my first intro to the series and New Vegas had just come out at the time. Really happy they decided on an original separate story instead of trying to copy one of the games.
