@@philapinyo Twisted Metal games have like, 4-5 different canon universes that exist independently of each other already. Twisted Metal by definition couldn't make most of Halo's mistakes, because it never had some tight core narrative to go off of.

Sadder to think how poorly SW did after being studied... Halo after that first trilogy had SW level potential then preceded that franchise into the gutter.
@@michaellane5381 right, at least Star Wars and Marvel can bounce back - I mean just look at the excitement around Deadpool right now. Paramount would have to do a complete reboot OR just do a movie with a whole new cast and market it as a brand new start and get Peter Jackson to direct.
@@TheFroneyZone honestly the bigger problem is 343... PJ didn't have some other Tolkien changing the lore as he made his movies, making larger and larger gaps in the lore and causing any coverage of them to go through evolution of multiple media sources while not specifically having good info on which is the higher "canon". At least SW had 6 movies, Halo has 6+ games but among them 4-6 have story content you can no longer repeat and that left out gaps filled by books, while "Reach" changed canon slightly from the books meaning it isn't as simple as using those and the games.

The Halo tv show is how I know that I was born in the bad timeline. Somewhere out there is a version of me who got Peter Jackson's rendition of the Halo universe.
@@danieltravelstead Halo Landfall was created by him as a concept for a Halo movie/show a bit after he finished the LoTR trilogy. He was definitely still in his prime back then.
I loved his King Kong movie. I know not everyone does, but I thoroughly enjoy it everytime I watch it, and it has some seriously impressive world building for a standalone movie.
It could be worse. Somewhere there must also be a timeline where the people responsible from the Halo Show were also tasked with making the LOTR movies
When your faithful to the original source material, it makes people excited for that source material. And when you make the fans of an IP happy and nostalgic for that IP, it creates a desire to engage with that IP in all its forms. Which makes the entire exercise a win for everyone. Which makes it all the more insane that these other shows like Halo go literally out of their way to piss off the fans.
season 3 should just be revealed to be simulation in the head of an Ai showing what could possibly happen to John -117 before they bring him into the program and start the whole series over again or just cancel and try again with people who actually know what the series is
Cancel and try again. There is no redeeming the halo show under paramount. Honestly I'm just tired of seeing my favorite franchise be completely bastardized by a bunch of greedy suits. cancel everything and just let the franchise go because they clearly only see it as a cash cow.
No, just cancel it before it gets a chance for season three, that way someone better can make an attempt at a show/movie in only 10 more years rather than 15
Having watched reactions from people who have no clue about the Fallout universe, I am pleased to see that the show is just as enjoyable for them apparently. Fallout was simply well made and wasn't afraid of going all in on the game aesthetic and even referencing gameplay weirdness, like pointing a gun while talking to someone, the big bags carried by the "squires" for all the loot, the fact that people suck at shooting with iron sights and so much more. The ultimate game reference was when the Ghoul said something regarding how you will always get sidetracked in the Wasteland; a clear nod to the typical Fallout player completely forgetting their main quest and doing everything else. I haven't watched Halo (nor have I played the games), but from your description it seems they were too afraid to go all in. They didn't want to make a series based directly on a game, but rather "inspired by" which nobody really wanted. Like you said: people liked the games for a reason. TV developers should not assume that video game media is all that different from their format, and Fallout clearly showed this. They even have the same animations for the power armor (except for the jetpack/flying system which is a sensible adjustment for practical reasons in the show)
“The golden rule of the wasteland, Thou shall get sidetracked by bullshit every single time” if they included that quote in the next Fallout game, that’d be amazing
As someone who's new to the Fallout universe, I'm absolutely loving the show. Funny thing is that Ella Purnell also played a leading character for another S+ show based off a video game series, Arcane. From watching both of these shows I can tell you that the thing they both excel at immensely is characterization. You empathize with the characters in these shows, you can see their flaws, you want them to succeed, and the intricate ways they interact with each other and their environment keeps you glued to the screen. They also both have a gorgeous, distinct aesthetic and music choice in each show, and Fallout has its signature dark humor. Of course Easter eggs and nods to the original fans are great, but both of these shows make it their priority to have deep and fascinating characters that anybody, fan or not, could get attached to. Characterization trumps all. Anyone could watch these shows and get invested. I haven't seen the Halo show, so I can't speak about its quality, but from the scenes I've seen, it looks painfully generic and uninspired. The lead looks like a generic sci-fi action guy. It's hard for me to see it catching the attention of individuals who aren't already Halo fans.
maybe, but it im certain they could have done so much more, if they didn't try and cram in master chief. imagine a story about some UNSC Marines fighting a Colonial Rebellion as the Covenant Invades. that gives you so many different angles to follow. and it can add to the verse. instead of diverging at the risk of subtracting from the verse.
It's even worse when you remember that leak from before Infinite came out. You know the one where it said the head of 343 was more worried about the "Halo" TV show than Halo Infinite. Everything else said in this leak came true, so I'm inclined to believe this was the case.
The show definitely has a lot of what i like to call '343isms'. Stuff like chief going rogue, UNSC bad, general disinterest in the covenant, forerunner stuff seeming to be more magic mcguffin than functional, halsey bad. They defended not playing the games by saying how they talked to 343 about the universe and yeah...they talked to the people who had no idea what made the halo universe popular.
@@Janx14 I do blame the 3 heads of 343i, who are now removed. They have no understanding of the Halo IP and it shows. Sadly Kiki Wolfkill is still advising Paramount.
As long as Kiki Wolfkill is still involved with the show, it will never substantially change to be the Halo that most people know and love. Wolfkill was an instrumental part in charting the 343 Halo path away from the world and characters that Bungie's games established.
as a fallout fan (fo1, 2, tactic, 3, nv, 4 i've played em all except the BoS arpg) the thing that fascinated me is that it felt like fallout. it didn't feel like an adaption of fallout it FELT like Fallout itself. Every interaction just reminded me of the events i experienced in the games. so many of the tropes i love from the series are in there but at the same time they did their own thing. they were capable of being original without completely bastardizing the setting and lore. Funny that.
100% agree with you. We watched the fallout series and were like: “this looks, sounds and feels like fallout.” With halo it was like I was watching a foreign series with no relateability with halo at all.
@@thereclaimer2945 The Chevy taho and the random non-halo weapons scattered throughout both seasons didn't help either. The halo show feels cheap when it has a budget that rivals other works in recent years.
The biggest killer for me, along with everything you guys mentioned, was the criminal lack of the original soundtrack for the games. Aside from a hint of it in the opening of each episode, there was nothing that made me feel like I was watching something in the Halo universe in 98% of the series.
Jonathan Nolan wanted to make a Fallout TV show because he was utterly addicted to Fallout 3. Just that there made a huge difference, it's a passion project for the Writer/Director.
Add that he's actually talented unlike the hacks that did Halo and Witcher. GoT fans may have hated what D&D did with post-book seasons but they certainly did a decent job adapting what was in the books. Shogun was an adaptation from source material as was Dune... If you have talented creatives adapting, it can be great.
@@christopherpekel6096 That is true, but that doesn't mean everything they say is a lie. It's reasonable to ask why most video game adaptations just miss the mark so badly while Fallout and The Last of Us manage to capture the vital parts while making it accessible go new audiences. The shortest path is that the are video storytellers who are fans of the game.
What Paramount did to Halo, Netflix did to the Witcher. It is absurd how all these writers and producers who have no love or even appreciation for the source material keep getting involved in these projects. A job is a job I guess but damn, the material is literally already written for them yet they continue to trip on flat ground... Ella Purnell did the research, played the games and developed an appreciation for the world and it shows on screen. Henry Cavil had it for the Witcher, but it seems like no one else at Netflix did and that also showed on screen...
You don't neccesarily need to love or even be familiar with the source material to make a good adaptation, but you DO need to respect it. All these narcissist creators want to make their "vision" and think they are more talented than the OG creators.
As someone who hadn't played the Witcher games, at least Netflix's Witcher was enjoyable to watch and got me interested in the game series. The same can't be said for the Halo show; it's objectively bad all on its own.
@@VogtTD I suspect that for many of the writers that… basically just throw away the source material… it’s a combination of having a narcissistic consciousness that believes they can write something better than the original vision, and possessing a subconscious driven by an inferiority complex that results in a lacking faith in their own ability to produce an original IP and instead seek to reskin their own stories and ideas under another franchise in an effort to ride brand recognition into fame and fortune. If it was merely narcissistic tendencies, they’d ordinarily get a bigger rush by having their own works outperform the established big names in a medium or even genre within the medium. However, many of these writers and showrunners also had major failures on their resume, or had long lingered in obscurity, causing them to nurture an inferiority complex in the recesses of their minds that they may not be aware of. But that’s not to say that I don’t believe some aren’t in it just to try to make a franchise they are jealous of burn down… I strongly suspect this to be the case with Mindy Kaling with the Velma show.
The possibly biggest lesson comes from the fact that the fallout show was its own story in the universe instead of a retelling of the a specific game and it worked brilliantly. Halo has a 27 year long war, they could a tossed a canon flawless show into the middle with no issues and been very successful
That's definitely a factor, but didn't "The Last of Us" successfully adapt stories from the game? Disclosure: I didn't play the game. Also, I didn't hate the Halo series...but I didn't find it consistently interesting...but I also didn't play the game... and ..um... also, I was hoping the Halo series was going to be like a live-action Red v Blue.
They could have a adapted harvest campaign and the origins of Sgt Johnson, that would have been an extremely good show ,just follow the books god-damnit.
@@pyRoy6the difference with the Last of Us is that it already had a story which was essentially one-to-one adaptable to cinema. The story is intentionally designed in a character driven, episodic way which makes it super well suited to a tv series. Whereas the Bungie Halo games and the Fallout games, outside of Reach, do not have character-focused storylines which makes them really difficult to adapt. That’s why Master Chief in the series feels like character assassination, because he had no real character arc in the Bungie games so the TV writers had a failed attempt to try to insert their own character in his place. So definitely it would work better to either follow the storyline of one of the books or just have a parallel story which doesn’t explicitly follow the Chief’s actions in the original trilogy. OR just make a John Wick style action movie
100% agree How awesome would the halo tv show had been if it had centered around an ODST troop during the events of the halo games? New characters new perspective on old stories... interweaving with the games. For example, the show could have shown us the attack on earth while we are fighting on a different platform than Master Chief was and when chief was going to do his space bomb, maybe our troop had to take down sensors or shields so chief could land or just show us chief blowing up the carrier while we watch from a window. Following a new squad of troops could also opened up to all the romance themes that they are forcing the chief into, and they wouldn't need to be in armor 100% of the time, and they could be vulnerable. Hell, guess I'll just go watch Starship Troopers again....
I still maintain they should have done S1 without the Spartans involved at all(or minimal) keep to the insurrection years for 2 seasons followed by a .5 season of the Spartan training camp as kids and anti-human missions, then a 0.5 season of human vs covenant first contact Wars followed by a season of Reach(finally involving Spartans).
Pretty close to the ODST game itself from a high level, but that's not so bad anyway. It could even be centered around a group of "normal" marines just trying to stay alive while completing their missions. Chief has a soft spot for a good ol' duty-bound soldier, so it would both make sense and be a facet of his character for him to take our protagonist under his wing for a mission (as in a season, or slightly less). The character would be changed by chief and perhaps become promoted to an ODST after some time, then in season 2 have a little bit of overlap with chief but mostly be much more independent due to character development having been with the chief. Perhaps they could now link up with the ODST crew from H3:ODST (maybe this person is actually one of those members). It's so so so so weird that the show decided to make Halo first and foremost about conspiracy. The conspiracy plot has always been there, but only under a few layers of lore (until H4, anyway). The real essence of the game/story is wonder/mystery/discovery, honor-bound duty, and survival against the odds. Arguably it's less important to know ABOUT the aliens/forerunners as it is to be awe-struck and inspired by the aliens/forerunners. And the spotlight of humanity shouldn't be on how much infighting there can be, but on how it can pull together to survive an existential threat (2 of them, actually). Aside from being abysmally made, the show completely misses that point
I feel bad for Halo fans. The last of us, League of Legends, and Fallout all have good tv adaptations but Halo has whatever monstrosity Paramount dredged up
@@cursedapostate3705 in Hollywood I can only guess it is a combination of factors, I don't think enough people respect the oldest serial's like flash Gordon that aged poorly, Rodenbery(Trek creator) was notoriously difficult to work with, Lucas left and idk what happened there, the majority of SF creators are FNG's like Snyder... And ofc Firefly was both nipped in the bud and Whedon got in trouble that made him a pariah just when he might have got Nathan Fillion back had anything potentially been possible to restart Firefly... Stargate seems to have waned following NASA's decline as well. I hear "For All mankind" and "Foundation" are good though.

That's the only way the writers can feel like they accomplished something. They feel like they have to change something to leave their mark, and don't respect source materials.
To give credit to the guys making Rings of Power, what else CAN they do? They don’t have the rights to adapt the Silmarillion, which is basically the entirety of pre-lotr lotr lore, but Paramount has literally all the resources; almost a dozen games and 30 something novels
The worldbuilding in Halo show is terrible. How's Reach supposed to feel like one of humanity's last strongholds if we keep going between 5 or so different planets? Hows Keyes telling Ackerson to go f himself supposed to be some return to trust when since season 1 episode 1 no one trusts each other? Let alone him dying the next episode. It's all bad.
Halo had such big names attached to it for so many years, like Peter Jackson and Neill Blompkamp. It's nuts that it was such a juggernaut franchise only to end up where it is now.
Dude - the 1993 Mario Brothers movie makes the Halo TV series look bad, the 1994 Street Fighter makes it look bad, the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie makes it look bad. To say nothing of more serious modern attempts like 'The Last of Us' - a show that even my parents watch, as well as myself though not my genre of game. And yes - I will happily watch that 1993 movie, mess that it is, before I watch this Halo series ever again. And seriously - my parents knew when I was playing Halo, even if they didn't always know the name - because the music was that distinct and noticeable. There's a couple times they had to ask me what I was watching cause even when it was using closer to the game music and things they might recognize from even just glances they didn't put 2 and 2 together. My mom watched a few minutes a couple times as I watched shaking my head - with her basically calling out characters for being generic tropes as she tried to understand what she was seeing, which puzzled her why this franchise had been so big before till I broke down things like how Halsey actually is in the canon, the actual canon Spartan II program (not this psuedo robocop BS), and some other things - at which point she went 'wait, that's way more interesting why didn't they do that'? Halo is up there as one of the worst adaptations of all time - the only reason it's not default worst is that Dragonball: Evolution exists, and I acknowledge I may be more forgiving of the '93 Mario Bros film than most.
Liking or not the format of the game, Fallout 76 is still canon and after watching the show I believe its plot and lore could be quite a bit more important the we might have thought. I mean, we have a vault that (behind all the patriotic and promotional fluff) is ultimately a "good" vault (no crazy experiments done on vault dwellers), is set to open just 25 years after the war and one of the primary directives they give us for when we exit the vault is: "Acquire control over and secure Appalachia's nuclear missile silos". Silos that are apparently fully automated, self-repairing and can produce their own nuclear missiles from a large stockpile of resources. I'm pretty sure the last thing Shady Sands citizens heard before the big boom was "Take me home, country road, to the place, I belong..."
It wasn't even just that we were "trying" to get a Halo show, Hollywood had FULL ODST GEAR IN OTHER MOVIES, back when Firefly's movie Serenity and the movie District 9 were made... Those movies literally used Halo gear that was already made and sitting on shelves unused about a decade ago and they couldn't finish using a perfect script they later wanted to rebuild from scratch and special effects which are probably the best part of their "show".
@@bounceday for real, you barely see it in Serenity for the scene Alliance forces break through the wall to face River, But District 9 has them in more scenes.
I think a Halo live action movie with John113 giving back the bomb is epic but not very story rich. I think a Series about Sgt Johnson’s career would be really great for world building. He started off fighting rebels and then meets the covenant at Harvest and basically follows nearly every significant event up to installation 00. He has perspective, a really interesting story arch, close ties to Captain Keyes and Miranda Keys as well as Dr Halsey and Cortana. Hell, they could open with John113 giving back the bomb and then after the first season when John113 goes MIA there could be a heap of cuts back to Johnson fighting the Rebels, meeting the Covenant, Defeating the Covenant at Reach and discover the massive fleet that the Forerunners left to help the Humans. There would be so much more of a believable human element and it would be interesting to see how Sgt Johnson explains the rebel situation to Miranda as all Miranda seemed to know was the Human-Covenant War and doesn’t have much, if any distrust towards UNSC or ONI.
To be fair, those New Vegas "fans" really overreacted when it comes to how the show supposedly handled the West Coast lore. I can forgive them for not being able to read a flowchart, but I can't forgive them for being butthurt babies who continue to spread misinformation in order to justify their unecessary hate. Personally, the Fallout series really felt like a show made by fans for fans. And it also helps that even people unfamiliar with the franchise could follow and enjoy the show.
Right and even the creator of Fallout said the games have not the best lore connections with some re rights on stuff from game to game when it comes to fallout 1-4 lol so those same folks swear the show is messing up the lore its like the games even mess up the lore with untrustworthy narrators lol
@@rockzen8050I remember how people made a big deal about cats being in fallout 4 and 76 because one guy in the original games said all cats died off. It’s not butchering the lore if one dude on the west coast was wrong about cats surviving on the east coast.
I think it's less that it was made by fans, but it's the fact that they're respectful of both what they're making but the audience as well. the Halo show isn't respectful of the source material or the audience, and i don't just mean fans of halo, i mean anyone watching it. that's my issue with the Witcher as well. The lead producer said that the reason why they dumbed it down so much is "because their American audience is stupid". That's an absolutely insulting thing to say, and of course a producer would say that, they think their farts smell like roses. I think passion is important but so is respect. As for what happened with err the thing, i had some worries? but they gave an explanation and i'm good now, i would love to hear where the new capital is, i'm hoping it's Arroyo (i would love to see Arroyo or at least their vision of it.)
It will be interesting to see what happens with Warhammer's TV show. If I was a producer I'd do it like a horror movie where each episode ends on a dark note. It starts with meeting a family who has a very impoverished life on a backwater world, but they're so thankful they don't live in a hive city. We get to see their traditions and religion and some exposition about how they don't know what's really going on, but they fear the Imperium, they doubt that Space Marines even exist and are just propaganda. There's religious enforcers and bureaucrats making life hell. Many of these people are mutated, ill, malnourished. Neighbors start going missing and you get a riff of Invasion of Body Snatchers type thing, where local authorities are concerned about a possible Ork spore invasion and begin a brutal crack down. Henry Cavill shows up as an Inquisitor Idealist , he's trying to balance not committing genocide (because of the planet's abundant harvests) with getting to the bottom of this invasion or corruption plot. He begins thinking agents of Chaos are controlling his command. We find out midseason that it's actually an Tyranid invasion, and Cavill is having to fight against a corrupt Imperial Guard (corrupted by Chaos?), fearful farmers, guardsmen and bureaucrats who might be victims to Chaos or Tyranids, and a looming infestation of Orks. It starts dark, gets darker, gets way darker - stick with the grim dark sadness rather than a focus on big action scenes. In the final episode Space Marine shows up and it absolutely dwarfs Henry Cavill, it represents the Imperium's decision to kill everyone on the planet and Cavill has failed. Warhammer is more popular now than ever and it would be easy to do this show without thinking it needs to be a hardcore shoot'm up like Halo tried to avoid. It shouldn't be action, it should be slow rolling horror with sprinkles of mad violence. With that in mind, it could be done affordably.
In a complete vacuum the Halo show is a dumpster fire that hates is own source material. Compared to Fallout it is an embarrassment on the careers of every single person in a decision making position that worked on it. I only feel bad for the actors, crews, and effects teams for having to be part of something so soul less. Hope they got *good* paychecks
Cyberpunk and Fallout 4 were revived with their respective shows, really displays how important it is to capture the same audience that the games already did.
Shows so good i restarted Fallout New Vegas on PS5 stream store, Todd came out and said all the games are canon, especially NV, we just have to wait and see WHICH ending was i’m thinking its the House Always Wins timeline with The Courier pushing the NCR and The Legion out of the Mohave eventually leading to The Fall Of Shady Sands seen in the show
That Landfall live action halo video they did like 15 years ago was way better than the whole halo series put together. Who the fuck would choose to make a 'silver canon' when the canon was already so rich, incompetence doesn't even begin to explain 343 and Paramount!
I’m glad they dropped it all on one day… I’m sick of subscription services milking us for money by dragging a series out over months. The original positive to a subscription service over cable TV was the ability to binge-watch a TV show all at once.
When watching the fallout show, i truly felt entertained, and i love how it took things from all or most of the games and put them in said show.I even got chills during the darker scenes, like the part where lucy finds out about more the vault 4 experiment for example. The ghoul aka cooper is probably my favorite character in the show.I did enjoy seeing dogmeat too.Lucy and maximus were also fun to watch.
I mean I haven’t played much fallout, but the tv show has encapsulated the atmosphere and the themes of fallout very well while making a new story that I feel is genuinely good
The one thing that the Fallout show does that virtually no other film & TV adaptation does is that it *adds* to the existing world and over arching narrative instead of rewriting/reimaging so many of elements that make the original so beloved.
The gal I'm seeing and I knocked out the Halo MCC earlier this year. It was her first time through the Bungie classics, and she was all in-wishing she'd been a teen during Halo's prime. The finales of Halo 3 and Halo: Reach blew her away just like they did for me back in the day. I had already seen the first season of the Halo series and wasn't too impressed, even though I heard the second season might turn things around. I was hesitant to ruin her Halo vibe with the series, but we gave season one a go. It was tough after the high of the MCC. She kept saying, "that's not my Master Chief," totally not vibing with it. We finished season two last night and, sadly, it didn't live up to its promises. It feels like the series just wants to wear the Halo name rather than bring the game to life. Pretty disappointing-it's basically just another sci-fi show with the Halo tag. She's already hyped to start Fallout, and honestly, I bet she’ll find it way better than the Halo series. Such a shame for Halo.
Hey Eck, not sure if this will be a lot of effort but what if you commissioned some artwork similar to the art of Star wars that shows all of the characters throughout the years and stories in one big sort of collage, except do yours with your Doge thumbnail as a sort of centerpiece and using ideas from your other videos and work these past years on RU-vid surrounding it similar to The Big Star wars collages, . You could even styleyes it in a way, my suggestion just because I love this style is to go like something out of the trippy acid painting
I suppose one thing that works is setting the story in the same canon. Granted as we see with Star Wars this can lead to predictable stories and in Fallout it can lead to some alterations from the rest of Canon being unpopular, but at least you’re bound to a set of rules that the fan base has agreed to. Everything from retcons, alterations, and other surprises need to logically deviate from what’s been established instead of just doing something out of left field.
What did I like about Halo TV? The big set piece fight scenes with the covenant looked cool. Silver team were good and could be reworked into an interesting side story in canon about a team of Spartans deprogramming themselves. But that’s about it. It’s not like we didn’t have similar or even better versions of those ideas that already existed in the game/book canon. IMO, as polarizing as the Kilo 5 books were, Moral Dictata did the whole Spartan exploring who they could have been way better and in a way more engaging way than the TV series. Heck, they even villainized Halsey better without turning either her or the UNSC into mustache twirling evil.
So I just have to add, I get all the content creators and journalists have been criticizing the decision to just drop the whole show at once instead of doing it as a weekly thing because that keeps the show "relevant" or whatever, but I have to say I personally appreciate it, and really wish the streaming services would stop doing the weekly release thing. As a viewer I kinda hate having to wait for extra episodes of a season, especially if the episode for the week just feels like filler with nothing going on. Also helps to avoid any kind of spoilers from discussion online if I can just sit down and watch the whole thing off rip. Also makes it more consumer friendly, as if this is all you're interested in from Prime Video, you can just sub for a month, watch it, and quit. And yes, I'm aware you can do the same thing after the entire show has released, but then you have to avoid spoilers as much as you can, and with CCs and media heads talking about each episode each week, that gets kinda hard to do sometimes. Yes some channels avoid spoilers for a certain amount of time, but not all, and not indefinitely. So as much as it isn't good for all the background metrics companies love so much, I really hope we go back to the netflix way of "fuck it, here's the whole season" as I think that's way more enjoyable for the viewer. And frankly, as a viewer, I'm more concerned with the viewer experience over that of the company or content creators. I doubt it'll happen because of those metrics, the strategy does unfortunately work, but one can dream.
It depends on the show. The weekly approach works well for the smash hit, X-Men '97, because each episode ends on cliffhanger that keeps viewers speculating and coming back for more. I think Fallout relying on the binge model is fine since it doesn't have as many cliffhangers.
@@TheVeritas1 I mean that’s entirely up to the show’s producers. With streaming being the modern way to watch TV, you know you have the option to do either style. Yes if you’re going to write the show to be done in a weekly manner that’ll make more sense, but writing it that way is entirely optional. Shows used to be written that way to entice people to tune in next time, but that’s because streaming wasn’t a thing back then. Now the weekly structure is just an arbitrary limitation a service puts on a show in order to drive metrics, and keep the show “relevant” for longer. And naturally to keep people subscribed for longer. Some shows can still be written for the weekly manner, but they no longer have to be, and that’s sort of my point. We don’t have to do this weekly thing anymore, it’s purely for the benefit of the business, and to a lesser extent the content creators, as they can talk about something for longer with that method. Which that’s all well and good, as a viewer I’d simply prefer to watch a season of something in one shot, from start to finish, as a cohesive story. We were doing that with the dawn of streaming, but now we’re going back to the weekly structure because it’s better for businesses, and I simply wish we weren’t.
I disagree, though there is just not a good sample size for its effects yet. I dislike the binge format because it lead to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure getting less exposure during its release. And killed all hype the show had generated. People just stopped talking about it but the quality hadn't fallen. I think shows that have any sort of an imherent mystery involved benefit from the weekly format.
I LOVED that they dropped the entire season at once. I hate cliffhangers in between episodes. Fallout 4 is the most friendly game entry of the lot, the most accessible for new players and arguably the one with a closer look to the show. I've not played 76 but from images seems they are the same in looks. Yes New Vegas is the one with the better crafted story, but its also not as accessible for new players. My favorite gameplay of course is the turn based combat of the original ones, but playing those will put off many new players.
Hell yeah, the Fallout show styled ALL over the Halo show. Also, this is probably one of the first recent shows on this channel that I've actually WATCHED. Normally I experience this stuff vicariously, but this time I was on-board for the whole ride because I had Prime. I wouldn't have gotten Prime just for one show, even one as good as Fallout, but since I already had Prime for other purposes, I figured that I didn't have anything to lose. If anything, I feel enriched by the Fallout show being such a fun time, and wasn't bothered by it all releasing at once, and I am definitely coming back for Season 2. As for merch ideas? Well, maybe a little plush of the EckhartsLadder Shiba Inu with a military cap. It could probably work at the size of a piggy bank, since that'd be the perfect size for it to hang out on a small shelf or on your desk. Maybe even call it the Blessed Noodle Pup.
I haven't seen the fallout show but I've heard good things. The sad thing is that I no longer trust Bethesda with the fallout franchise. I think they built up a mountain of goodwill and cashed out with Fallout 76. Just thinking of all the shenanigans they did at launch makes me shake my head. Just look it up on RU-vid. I'm sure someone did a long form video essay on that.
Ethical merch idea? Tee shirts for the vaporwave artist "Home" whose "Resonance" is your bumper music. Also...as a trekkie i have a hare time seeing Halo as the Paramount flagship show.
I think they’re kinda making Star Wars look dumb as well, the mandalorian was doing good but decided to de-masculinize Mando and continue with the grogu storyline just to sell toys.
The problem is that the big budget people who get on board do not care about the Bungie era books or games. They only care about the more recent productions, which includes Spartan sex with civilians (from Halo 4's Spartan Ops), the Fall of Reach just being a line in the manual (from Halo Anniversary), Cortana being evil (from Halo 5, and most of 343i's books), and the Elites being unintelligent morons that murder civilians up close and personal instead of being Elite pilots, bombers, and captains. Season 3, the Master Chief gains Brute allies, and has to resist sexual advances by big hairy apes.
“People over Amazon just being more clever.” Yikes. Rings of Power left nearly everyone massively disappointed. Let’s be a bit more careful with the compliments there. But you are right as I’ve never played Halo or Fallout and this made me devour Fallout lore on RU-vid. Halo just didn’t inspire that.
I totally agree and disagree with dropping the episodes at once. Pro: I binge watched the entire thing and loved it. Con: Don’t get to spend the week waiting for the next episode and talking about it with friends. Can’t wait for season 2
As a creator I would HATE it lol. I'd want to see fans dissect and evaluate each individual episode week by week. It's definitely better for the consumer generally speaking, but also makes spoilers more of a threat to fans without time to binge, among other things. Overall I consider it a worse model than weekly releases, but this TikTok generation doesn't have the patience for that.
I love that we now have proof that if the showrunners respect the fans and lore, it will directly benefit the game itself. Make something good, and the fans will support it. Also, Halo is why I don't want a Firefly remake.
I think a Halo TV show about a group of ODST fighting rebels and then having to team up with the rebels to fight the Covenant, being saved by a Spartan (not John-117) in the final episode, would have made for great TV. During the next season, you could have the Spartan take off HER helmet, and the series could have a badass good girl, with the ODST and rebels teaching her about feelings, and that kind of thing, maybe even hooking up with one of the soldiers and absolutely breaking him off screen ... just hear the grunting, then him screaming like a girl, and the next scene is the medic asking the soldier if he was trying to die by snu-snu, and he spends the rest of the season strapped to a gunnery chair.
Everyone involved with the Halo show should be ashamed of themselves. To take one of the most influential gaming IP in history and turn it into whatever the Hell they did with it at Paramount... Like, this should have been the easiest win in entertainment history. How do you screw that up that badly? Utterly soul crushing.
Watching Fallout 2024: "I should finish that vault settlement I was working on" Watching Halo TV: ".....well.... anything Halo isn't going to shine as much after seeing this crap....."
It's not about a good show, it's not about making money, it's about demoralizing you. You're unhappy? Good. You don't agree? Good. It's all about taking what you love and making you hate it. They don't care and never will
No synergy. That is the PERFECT statements. Amazon honored the franchise, the fans and the story. Halo just made a story. The only thing they did right was dropping episodes weekly.
Speaking as someone who's never played Halo, and can't see myself ever playing Halo in the future (I'm not an FPS fan. Hell I'm not even an FPS tolerater! 😁). I didn't mind the TV show. It gave the impression of being a game port but also provided me with a realisation that there's actually some deeper lore that I never knew about. So I've started to pay more attention to the Halo universe as a setting and the books are now on my list for future reading. It hasn't made me want to play the games, I think I'm too far away from the pew pews to ever be brought in that direction. But it's an OK setting for a solid sci-fi show. Is it a show that I waited for with enthusiasm each week? Nope. But it is one that I would choose to watch over rewatching repeats of my favourite classics. So, without neededing to put myself in the shoes of someone new to the franchise, because they're the ones I own, it's a 6-7/10 for me being immersed solely in the internal logic of the show. Comparing it to Fallout however seems a bit mean. As an RPG the whole FO series is geared towards the story. And the characters you play with are regular humans.
Even the Nexus mods website has been CRUSHED all weekend due to everyone (re)discovering Fallout 4 mods. It was nuts! I could not even search for Skyrim mods without server crashes interrupting. 😂🤣
Honestly not so sure about the title’s positivity. A large section of the Fanbase is trickered that some of New Vegas was retconned - hopefully todd’s confirmation that shady sands was destroyed later than 2077 mollifies them but I think they’re the type who just wanna be angry for me personally, i don’t care. They NAILED the fallout vibe, especially the Vault episodes. It has the perfect ‘hey we’re just gonna pause and deal with this wacky stuff for the next 45 minutes’
Well when visiting canon locations you're bound to have cannon endings. Which are always going to annoy at least some subset of the population. Is Fallout perfect? Nope. However its stumbles are NOTHING compared to the outright antagonistic horseshit the 'Silver continuity' has done.
@@steel749its a question of enviroment i suppose. The people who have been talking about, modding and playing the games nonstop this entire time are pissy, but they just love hating
I was one of those fans and I still don't like what happened but now that I'm watching the show I think that's really the only bad thing about the show. Otherwise it's pretty great
Halo show: halo is dumb and sticky and gross and weird and the fans are dumb Fallout show and fans together: URAAAAANIUM FEVER HAS DONE AND GOT US DOWN! URAAAAANIUM FEVER ITS SPREADIN ALL AROUND!
Thank you!!! Glad I’m not the only one! I just typed the same thing. Even with fallouts star cast the show lacked enthusiasm and the editing was so rough that it drove me nuts.
You know what would've been absolutely GOD tier for Halo (them having Reach the way it is, is terrible) having the show start with Johnson as the main character on Harvest at the beginning of the war. 3-6 episodes in he's saved or joins an offensive involving spartan 2's with chief and that's season 1 just the intro to Halo Wars. 5 long years of a planetary brawl with covenant setback after setback loss after loss. Season 1 ends with Harvest being glassed and them learning their new destination is Reach. Retell the fall of Reach with chief doing shit on the other side of the planet as 6 and split between the 2 perspectives and midway through the season introduce our boy The Arbiter still voiced by Keith David (our lord and savior) season 2 ends with Chief making it to the Autumn (maybe seriously injured) and have it be the ship the 6 shoots down be Arbiter's. Remember that 6 went TOWARDS the ship he shot down. Dude said "ok I know where there is an infinite amount of split lips to kill and a glorious death awaits me" and maybe have it be that his body is delivered to the arbiter. Season 3 starts with Halo 1. Also have Noble 6 be female noble 6 for the girls cause their identity is fully classified that or give them Kelly and Linda.
Look I know you're Canadian and so you do a lot of wackadoodle crap, but I think what infuriates me most about you is when you advocate for shows not to be dropped all at once. Swear to God if it comes down to it I will fight you to the end of the Earth on this. Like we could be the last two people on Earth and I will squab with you in the street over the fact that you better stop pushing for my shows to be able to be binged. I would rather all good content on the planet disappear than lose that. .... it better not ever happen. Cuz you're the first one to blaming.
I can see how timegatting episodes would seem completely unecessary, since why not just put it out all out when it's ready. But rolling them out each week would maintain the feeling of anticipation, thus marketting the show better. Letting more people know about the show than not.
@@EckhartsLadderThen you can still just watch an episode a week? Like that’s the thing I like with all episodes dropping at once, you get the freedom to choose which way you want to watch the series. Do you want to watch all episodes at once? Sure. Want to watch one episode per week? You still can.
Halo TV was trash and I feel both appalled and offended that a second season was greenlit before the first one even aired. Someone somewhere probably said "Yeah, yeah, trust me, it's gonna be great, people are gonna love it!" It's not even my money but I still feel like it was stolen from me lol
They can’t do a weekly release because the Fallout New Vegas fans are insufferable so drop everything at once and just hear their hope for a New Vegas 2 go up in smoke.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Halo had so much potential as a show, like many video game based stuff does. My late father was never much for video games, but he did love good science fiction shows like Star Trek or films like Star Wars. He'd have loved the concept of Halo as a show if they stayed loyal to the source material. It seems Paramount and Disney just do not care about the existing fan base which is a bad idea. I get the make it more marketable to a wider audience, sure, makes sense, but not at the cost of the original fan base. I mean Halo is over 20 years old as a franchise. Star Wars is approaching 50 years old. There's a lot to be said about that
I know a lot of Halo fans won’t agree here but I think Halo was doomed to fail in the first place *because* of its source material… it’s based on an FPS with cut scenes. From the start Fallout has been an RPG. Story and world building has been far more important to Fallout than it is to Halo. And fallout’s not limited to particular people or units to tell the story in that world. The only thing dumber than trying to make a Halo series was trying to make a Doom movie… about a guy who we never see his face, never see his character, never know his name and don’t even know where the events are taking place.
I absolutely love how they've adapted the Fallout game into a series and kept to the lore and everything without ruining it within reason. If you look at Halo series they've gone in their own direction and made chief take off his helmet which he does do in the legendary ending of Halo 4 but we never truly see his complete face, all the main characters are completely different and donot look or are close to the game versions, and made master chief fight on Reach without wearing his armour which he couldn't of done because he was on the pillar of autumn waiting for cortana to be deliver to him by noble 6. even though i like and love halo myself i refuse to watch the adaptation of the Halo series because simply they are not 100% respecting the timeline and trying to have their own agenda etc. As for the Fallout series i'd say its has done one thing right that Halo doesn't do and that is it sticks to the timeline within reason and also that the main characters you play as, you play the games however you want within reason. FO1 - save vault 13 FO2 - save your village (find the GECK) FO3 - find your dad FO4 - Find your son FO:NV - find the SoB who shot you in the head FO:Series - find and rescue your dad too Obviously the series had to choose something, i wish they came up with something different but it still a good series in my opinion, but at least they've kept to the source material and time line of the fallout universe and the outfits , weapons and features are 100% spot on too!. i can't wait for season 2!.
Yeah, but he admitted a company connected to Paramount flew him out to a convention to promote the Halo TV show. Who's to say Amazon isn't doing similar things for the Fallout show? I don't even necessarily hate the Fallout show, I'm just kind of disturbed at how ferociously its being pushed on people, both by content creators and Amazon itself.
I like that they released all episodes at once, we can all watch it at our own pace. If you want to watch all the episodes once a week you can do that yourself. But don't force everyone to just wait for a new episode once a week, that whole building suspense thing is stupid, just release every episode and let me watch them all.
I love how Kwan Ha, the worst character in the show, is who this show is really all about. Definitely not Master Chief, not the UNSC, not the War. And you cant tell me that with their 10 million dollar budget they couldn't give us a great Fall of Reach. The Battle of The Bastards of Game of Thrones fame was filmed for little more than 10 million.
Imagine the revival Halo would have if the show was actually good. But you got fans defending it cause "any Halo is good Halo". And doing the "games would be boring cause it's predictable". As if LOTR and Harry Potter were boring cause the books were already out
A canon show based on a company of odst. Starting from harvest to the battle of earth/ the ark would have been 👌👌 just a pure, well written war story without all the random love stories and shit nobody cares about
I personally watched the series then - immediately upon watching Episode 8 - dusted off Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4, updated all my mods and eliminated obsolete ones over the course of two days, and started playing them again. Then, a friend convinced me to buy and download Fallout 76 - which has become an excellent entry after a very rough start - because they made sure to out the entire franchise on sale to mirror the show's release. This was a brilliant marketing move, and it also had to do with the fact that Bethesda Games had devs and writers from the studio coordinating and cooperating with the show runners. If every studio did this, we would get better results from these cinematic adaptations.
I swear every RU-vidr suddenly not understanding why Amazon dropped the show all at once is mind blowing to me. Are we already pretending the hate campaign directed at the show and the actors didnt happen? By the vitrol they received, everyone assumed the show would be dead on arrival. So Amazon dropped it at once, in order to not drag out the backlash they were expecting.
Eeh that's only because the old school fallout/new vegas fans complained about it over dumb shit like the fallout 4 assault rifle prop, or because of muh woke, or because they thought that because it was canon clearly it meant that they wanted to retcon new vegas or something like that. it's just another case of fallout fans being schizophrenic and ranting about the most minute and useless thing ever
I completely agree. I am trying to keep myself as distanced from the halo show as possible to the point where I almost didn't watch the video, and the few things you talked about in it reminded me why, when I did. Even lisening to some bullet points about it is just painful.
The sad and unfortunate reality when the studio put in charge of a beloved franchise only cares about profits and changing the established narrative/landscape that was halo. 4 wasn’t bad in retrospect, but since 343 has had the reigns it’s been a downhill battle that Microsoft seemingly doesn’t care about.
What gets me about the Halo show was the incredibly deep moral complexity they had to play with. The question of what is okay in the name of survival is extremely interesting but (at least in the first season, haven't seen the second) they haven't delved into it. The Master Chief doesn't seem to have had the buy-in that he did in the books and games. Like, he knew he was kidnapped and didn't care because the mission was too important. He wasn't being controlled or his emotions suppressed or anything, he just deeply believed in what he was doing. There are really interesting questions addressed in the books that never get any time in the show, at least as far as I saw.
