Assuming you retain your human intelligence like Virgil/gen1 then yeah, I can't see any reason why not, but if you lose your intelligence you'll lose your humanity and be nothing more than a husk of your former self (Swan). For becoming a night kin, I'd take up the offer. Yes, it would mean that I could go crazy but I'd retain enough of myself to still exist in the world, and understand my surroundings - split personality disorder is just a problem that other people around me have to deal with/get used to (there is also the option of it being cured by the scientist at Jacobstown). I'd likely be solitary if I did go completely crazy anyways, so it's not really an issue.

Wasn't Fawkes a eastern Super Mutant who maintained his intelligence? He might be an outlier though since he was trapped in a library for 200 years

being bigger doesn't always make you a better Hunter. You only need to be strong enough to kill your prey. After that, you want speed, speed, and more speed. but as far as defending yourself from attack goes, then yes, bigger is always better. Ask an elephant.

This is all too pragmatic and utilitarian. You can’t forget that you become a deformed and monstrous human mutant. You got to think about how you will feel with yourself, how it would be to abandon the life and people you knew before. Would all accept you the same way ? Would you be able to move on in case you couldn’t live as you did, and watch all those you knew die ? There’s also the fact of corruption. Sure there are those who are humane among the super mutants but most aren’t, maybe the transformation affects their humanity, just as it affects their memories (making many not having a clue of their life before), leaving you with a bestial and more instinct approach to things, leaving virtues and ideologies behind. Maybe you would think turning other people into mutante might be a logically good idea wether they like it or not, maybe killing will become meaningless as everything lives so shortly compared to you. And maybe being hated by everything but your race in the wastelands is not a nice life to have, being shot at on sight, unable to enter towns, talk, trade... it’s not so simple as I get to be a strong child or keep being a little feeble human. I think the ones from the first generation might have lived so long that if they had a chance to go back and time and don’t become one they would either way. The ones from Boston and Washington probably would want to go back. Virgil, uncle Leo and Fawkes are good examples

If I could retain my intelligence AND my d**k... Absolutely for three reasons. 1) functional biological immortality 2) Superior strength and endurance 3) complete immunity to the single greatest threat to survival in my environment (radiation) without going mad or smelling like a rotted corpse. Also last I checked ghouls are infertile as well and there doing alright. Besides in the matter of not being accepted, why would you want to be around people that don't accept who you are? Everyone else can take a leap.

That should actually be an option in the next FO. It could come with its own perk tree, but obviously lower intelligence, agility, etc to compensate. Plus it should be non reversible just to make the choice a little more difficult

Super mutant: I must gather a large enough group of super mutants with many guns hat have a high rate of firepower, and must gather the required materials to create a self sustaining defense, in case one of our brethren are injured, so that we may storm diamond city and decrease super mutant death. There is one nightkin in the dead money dlc in fallout new Vegas, that if you pass certain speech checks you can make him regain his intelligence, and his state of mind, so if there was a guy who could give all nightkin a good therapy session, I would consider becoming a nightkin

They are definitely worth it. I'm kinda on the fence about nightkin though. I'd say probably, given the chance of a cure

The mutants from the common wealth do have some different traits than the dc variants. Also though east coast mutants tend to lose a lot of brain power they can regain much of it with time. Examples of this include Fawkes, Strong, Erickson, and uncle Leo. I don't include Virgil because his fev was a unique version of the virus.

there are some smart west coast type super mutants, like fawks. the best way of becoming a super mutant however would probably be using the tsrain brian virgil used on himself, if a man of his inteligence could be confident in it working right, than it must be the best version out there, plus a cure has been developed. all in all i would most likely be willing to grow up, have two or three children and then become a super mutant.

Honestly, if I lived in the fallout universe, I'd probably want to be either a ghoul or a cyborg. Probably cyborg more considering what ghouls have to put up with, as well as some of the actual disadvantages that have been mentioned, such as smell or a weaker body. Speaking of ghouls with weaker bodies, I really need to play more of New Vegas... Speaking of, considering several of the groups that created Super Mutants were trying to create the next step in human evolution, imagine having all the physical attributes of a super mutant, as WELL as keeping your intelligence, or it being enhanced. That'd be all the benefits of being a Super Mutant, and keeping the main thing that has allowed humans to become the dominant species on earth. Aside from appearance, it'd be a win-win.

If in Skyrim and other Elder Scrolls games you can become Were-wolfs and Vampires. Why can’t you become a Supermutant? Or at least a ghoul they use the same Armor as humans.

Was hoping you'd attack some other cons involved with all of them such as size impacting need of resources meaning more material for armor, weapons, and food which while making taking it easier from small groups still requires you to find enough to keep you alive. Also gotta factor in those big ass hands throwing finesse with small objects out making some tasks a pain.

Something that always disturbed me was the presence of a wooden door entrance to nuclear blasted Vault 83... I mean, I can understand technical limitations at the time, but they did have rocky cave entrances, right?

I would like to be eastern one but only if i wouldn't lose my intelligence. I’d definitely be a Super Mutant but I’d want my brain to be moved from my body to a body of a east coast healthy and less damaged Super Mutant containing my intelligence and my own consciousness. I think it would be a cool idea for a Fallout 5 or Fallout spin-off game. Having the main characters brain being placed into the body of a Super Mutant. Id definitely want that in fact I’m writing a story or just basic simple interesting Plot taking place in Wisconsin. And I wanna send it to Bethesda hoping they can get it made maybe.

There are examples of intelligence in east coast mutants too, like fawkes or virgil, although the breakdown of the mind was confirmed by virgil.

I'd rather be a Ghoul sure they have a chance to go crazy but they can still smash.

I'd end up hiring some scientists along with the cabot family and try to blend the FEV virus' affects with the Mysterious serum... along with a few other things... hopefully making a superior serum that lets me go from being a normal human (At least appearance-wise) To an Ultra-mutant that retains his intelligence... and then back to a normal human at will... sort of like the Titans from... well... Attack on Titan. No reason to settle for less than the Ideal right? So why not create the ideal you seek? After all... why bother flipping a coin when you can control the RNG itself?

I hate to use a phrase from another genre, but nature finds a way. If they find a way to procreate, they would evolve, maybe even intellectual capacity. The folks at jacobstown could even play a hand in that, even accidently. I have never seen an actual female supermutant, if they exist or they find another way to propagate the species, who knows what they could become. With what we have, a supermutant of jacobstown, maybe. otherwise, nah, can't imagine giving up reading.

Yea, if you actually manage to hang on to your intelligence it would be fine, but considering even most gen 1 super mutants mentally degrade to the point of being retarded i don't think there's any guarantee and that means it wouldn't be worth it to me. nightkin wouldn't be so bad, especially if you were smart enough to stop using the stealth boys or at the very least smart enough to use stealth boys responsibly, but that mental degradation is still there. bottom line, i don't believe the mutants or the ghouls are really immortal. I think, in the end, age is destroying most of their mental tissue which means at some point they all just end up drooling idiots or wild monsters. so, not worth it for me. might be cool to be a synth though, especially if you could break free of institute control and get out of the commonwealth. still have the immortality, the immunity to disease, immunity to radiation, and the superhuman abilities like super mutants but in addition there will never be any mental degradation, you can blend in quite well with humans, and you never have to eat, sleep, drink, or even breath (but can do so if you wish) so survival is pretty much a non issue at that point.

There's also a high chance you would get turned into a centaur, a six limbed tentacle monster. Risking that is a big no for me.

This makes me think what if Strong’s quest in fallout 4 had him aging over time and eventually you have to kill him or find a way to save him

I would take some time to scope out the facility where the change would occur and come up with an escape plan before hand. I would take the FEV and become a Nightkin but then leave before having the chance to become addicted to the stealth boys.

Was this video made before or after the Far Harbor DLC where Vim! Is said to restore east coast supermutant intelligence? If that is so, I would consider it. As for Nightkin, I definitely would be willing to go that route, since I'm already a bit crazy anyway. For West coast supermutant, I agree that I'd want to be one of the ones who retain their intelligence. In the case of behemoths, fuck that, it's the worst option, not only do you become a mindless brute, you also grow to a size where even Stormtroopers can hit you

It would be handy to have some robotic limbs to assist with more dexterous work along with much more heavy power armor. And you'd think some bloke in a set of T-64 armor is a walking tank!

You did also forget that the smart mutant mention they are in constant pain due to the quick growth and the need ways to ignore the pain or go rampant

i think honestly a lot of raiders and whoever else was struggling would turn to a mutant just to live, and thatd make a lot of mutants bad weather the mutants as a whole wanted them to or not

I believe Virgil said that his vision and dexterity was affected by his condition. He had to wear glasses and I don't remember him wearing glasses when he became human again. That being said, operating guns would be difficult because of their massive hands. I would their finger can fit through the trigger guard. In the design of Master Chief in Halo 4, his index finger doesn't have any armor plating because if it did like his other fingers, it wouldn't fit through the trigger guard

As with anything in the Fallout Universe, you don't so much get to choose, but have the situation thrust upon you. I would embrace my fate whatever it might be.

@FudgeMuppet I have an idea for a video, maybe you could do an "Is it Worth it?" Video on Ghouls. I know it's not as appealing at Super Mutants or being human, but they are still a race of people in Fallout. There are also many ways to become a Ghoul, being exposed to FEV like Harlod, exposed to radiation for a long time like a pre-war Ghoul, exposed to high levels of radiation for a short amount of time like Moria, or by radioactive drugs like Hancock. You are immune to radiation, and if you get enough radiation you could potentially become a glowing one where radiation heals you. Also Ghouls live a considerably long time, but you risk becoming feral. However most ghouls that become feral are because of how much time has passed or due to even higher levels of radiation. So being a Ghoul would be somewhat risky, in a way it would be similar to Alzheimer's, but you would soon become deranged and being killed. However you could at least live for a couple hundred years or more, also Super Mutants and some types of feral ghouls wouldn't bother you in the wasteland only some discrimination by humans because of your rotting flesh. However it depends on where you are in the wasteland if you are a ghoul, like there are NCR Ghoul Rangers in the Mojave at ranger station Echo. So what are your thoughts, do you think it's a possible topic for a video?

Although having a 15% increased rate of mitosis would indeed shorten healing time, it would also shorten their average lifespan, not increase it.

With nightkin you have the option of not using stealth boys, if you saw your friends go mad you can just stop using them, I see that as a win

Imagine in the next Fallout game, they have a quest in the main quest or DLC, where you are exposed to a new batch of FEV. A batch that turns you into a mutant, but acts more like the werewolf from Skyrim, or ESO. In other words, you can turn into a Super Mutant at will, and then revert to human form and have regular human features, including fertility, and vulnerable to radiation, but when you turn into a mutant you temporarily get stronger, and you just hulk smash everything, and you can get a perk where you can a minigun, giant hammer, or gatling laser for your super mutant form, or upgrade to behemoth, or Nightkin, with a Stealth Boy with a perk. Then, you can always revert to your human form, and at the end of the game, you can cure yourself of the FEV and lose the Super Mutant ability if you want.

If I recall the lore correctly, if you were prewar and your genes were not altered by the radiation, the Master's strain of the FEV virus would not have affected your intelligence. That is specifically why he looked for vaults in the original Fallout.
